Richter is one of the few Hotline Miami protagonists that I would call decent. Obviously, Evan is more of a good guy, but among the murder hobos, Richter at least has good, non-murder motivations, and he genuinely cares about his mom.

Those feelings after the drop counterbalance the feelings of apprehension and rising tension of 2:23 - 2:55. If this song were in a movie, it would be at the part where the heroes are preparing for an attack, and then are completely overwhelmed by the enemy. The entire album tells a story like you would see in an '80s action-horror flick, with each of the EPs being it's own story arc (thus the name Trilogy). Given this song's placement in the album at the end of EP1 and right before Roller Mobster (where the good guys begin to fight back), I think this description is accurate.

No one talks about 1:21? You've got this chaotic wall of sound pounding your ears, then suddenly it just stops with a single sawtooth wave that can barely keep its composure. It's subtle, it doesn't smack you in the face, but it makes its presence known through its echoes. You think you can take a breather, but you're slapped in the face again and that haunting sawtooth comes back, even angrier. The risers kick back in. There's a warbling noise in the background that seethes rage. If you listen close enough, a harrowing choir sends a shiver down your spine. Next thing you know the track's lashing back at you at full force

I don't know if I'm the only one who feels a catharsis in this song, especially at the end. It's like a release of raw emotion. And maybe that's why Dennaton used this song for the last Richter chapter. In the whole Act 5, Richter has been pushed to kill, has been walking on the razor edge, and survived. All for his love to his mother. And then, the Janitors told him he has outlived his usefulness, and he has to die. Trapped like a rat. He's alone now. He has lost everything, but now he has nothing to lose. Pushed to the limit, he has to do one final fight. He has to release himself, not only phyiscally, but also mentally. All the anger, all the frustration, all the hatred, all the despair. He's finally free.

There's some tone about this music that is so overpowering I can hardly describe it. Besides just the adrenaline rush, there's something desperate about it. No, not just desperate, it's melancholic, if not _mournful._ Especially in the latter half past 2:20. I can see it now, as the buildup hits it's crescendo at 2:56 and the drop hits. The pure, unadulterated rage of a man with nothing left to lose. All that he held dear has been destroyed at the hands of his enemies, and his former, reasoning self has been overwritten with grief and fury. There's nothing he can do... *except get his vengeance.*

@joeda9002 ай бұрын
I honestly think the music fits rather how Richter was when the prison raid happened. He was very affraid and distressed at first, the janitors telling their goodbyes to him out of the blues, the prison guards blocking the access to the cafeteria and the giant buff dude ready to kill him with several people cheering to see it happen and just as he beats him, the guards wants him dead, when he dresses up as a guard, the PRISONERS wants him dead but he refuses to let himself down. The song starts hopeless but as it progresses, it gets more and more epic and kind of hopeful kind of like Richter as he mows down through guards and prisoner alike just to get out of this hell and meet his mother again after a year

I hear loads of people complaining about how hard and unfair this level is, but I stand by my opinion that Release is the best level in the entire Hotline Miami series. It's a perfect way to send off one of the most interesting and genuinely likeable protagonists in the game, and the whole thing is so incredibly cathartic, not just for us the players, but for Richter as well. After being locked up and treated like an animal for a whole year, Richter is finally given the opportunity to escape from it all and *release* (heh heh) all of the pent-up hatred that he holds towards 50 Blessings. After everything the poor man has been through, this is the last brutal stretch before he can reunite with his mother and relax from it all. Level-wise, it has that brilliant... _something_ that makes the whole level feel ALIVE, like Richter isn't the epic badass protagonist who's there to kick everyone's asses all by himself (although I love the other levels in the games for that reason as well). In this situation, Richter is just one of many poor shmucks desperately trying not to get murdered, caught in the middle of this small-scale war between the security guards and escaped prisoners. It makes you feel like you're really surviving. Also Le Perv is baller. As are all of Carpenter Brut's songs.

"SAY YOUR PRAYERS, ASSHOLE." But seriously, this track and Release synergize so well, I can practically picture Release as a short movie, with the all the crazed speed and violence of a prison riot, with Richter escaping in the short duration of this song.

i think it's more because he didn't want anyone to snitch on him, with that many bodies brutally massacred it'd take long time to find out who's actually dead and who isn't, giving him enough time to escape

This song is beautiful and frightening at the same time, the song begins in a somewhat disturbing way, making me understand that we are basically talking about a pervert who not only spends time watching things on the Internet, perhaps even worse, as a threat, but and I think it is the The reason that many loved this song was the part of the minute 2:56, which at least makes me feel desperate, as if someone was running asking for help in horror and almost made me cry, feel a knot in the throat, it is a horrible sensation and very difficult to achieve in a song without lyrics ... and electronic and it is very rare that this genre generated emotions ... negative at least for me, this is one of the most unique works of Carpenter Brut making you feel a horror movie, hear a horror story.

@@Seniorsaturno This song makes me think of a prison break not because of Hotline Miami 2 but just from the energy you can tell something bad is happening when the song starts it feels like the tension build 0:32 representing th tight corridors and claustrophobic walls in the prison the intensity after that is the riots and fights start the blaring alarms being shown as the high power rhythm that the song follows then at the end you can feel the energy of some prisoners escaping there freedom no longer hindered by the chaos contained inside

You know a song is legendary when people aren't arguing about how it's used or what version is better, but instead of what part is the best because there's so many that appeal to everyone Well done Carpenter. I've just found your content but consider me hooked, if this is a sign there's still so much good music out there that hits really really good
