Thank you for the reaction! Sir Paul McCartney said of Karen, “the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive." (NPR, 2013). That about says it all. This live performance is more remarkable each time I hear it. Great songs, with great musicians, great arrangements by Richard, and that timeless 3 octave contralto voice of Karen Carpenter gave us songs that span the decades. Some of my favorites were never released as singles: “A Song for You”, “I Just Fall in Love Again”, “Ordinary Fool” and an oldie from the 1930s, “I Can Dream, Can’t I.” Thanks again.

Oh that recording of I Can Dream Can't I. Celestial. I got blindsided by it listening to the Horizon album for the first time. One of the great injustices in pop history that Karen never had the chance to record more standards...

Saw them many times live and YES, they were just as good live, sometimes even better when Karen got funny or things went differently than anticipated. Always amazing no matter what.

She lifted Richard’s aspirations to the sky and made it possible for him to succeed with his great arrangements. After Karen, he was nothing. Without his sister, he didn’t know the way to San Jose.

I realized I’ve not commented on this yet. This was the genesis of me offering Tori. Knighthawk made an excellent selection. This is still one of my top favorite Carpenters performances and it’s fully live. Joe/JBS
