Hi, im a carpet fitter and i've done this many times before and as for the pattern the fitter cant change it in any way and its the same again with floors, we point it out anything that will not hide by covering the floor. the kind of carpet need to be in a warm house and to let the cold out of the carpet which helps by no end when fitting it and this would have resulted in a better fit. But the fitters for Carpetright are on a low rate of pay per meter and it makes them cut corner so to speak, this is why i work for a good company with good par rates and also stand by the fitter and listens to me.. Carpet right its all about the money and not the job. Ask for your money back and go see a family run business in your local area.

OK if you buy the carpet from them and lay it yourself that's what we did. We bought there of cuts for my 3 lots of stairs and 4 landings. I went round all there stores to buy the same carpet of cuts over the course of a few weeks. That was a few years ago now . But it worked out cheaper and we laid the stair carpet ourselves. My daughter and me. Its still down. Looks great when I shampoo it. I'm thinking of replace the first landing of stairs as that got the worst of the wear . It was cream carpet but them 1st lot of stairs don't come out clean like the rest. So I'm gonna measure again and buy a couple of cheap of cuts , same carpet . Love the carpet.

Disgusting how they left your stairs like that! But as far as them overlapping the underlay, that's highly unlikely that would have happened in 3 places, it's more likely that you have raised floor boards that aren't level. I am also a carpet fitter

Great video, thanks for uploading. Just had a nightmare installation from carpetright this morning I wish I would have seen your video first! Refused to pay fitters and phoned carpetright who said the duty manager will contact me on Saturday to arrange a visit to view the carpet. Not just bad install carpet damaged in places, looks like they cannot handle stairs for me as well! Any advice for dealing with these buggers? Cheers

Subcontractors get paid for the yardage they fit per day, so they rush from one job too the next this a prime example.

As a fitter I'd say you need to uplift the rooms and make sure your sublfoor level is same level or there might be some dirt , stairs are really bad , they haven't tacked properly. This is the same issue i am having just had my carpet done and it is exactly like yours. You are right they easily take your money and over charge for a poor quality of work. I'm going to call and make a complaint. Thank you for this

Truly shocking! I hired an ex carpet right fitter now working as an independent and the 2 rooms were pretty bad. I swear I could have done a better job myself if I had the tools!

I had family recommending Carpetright to put down the carpets in a flat I live in, and after seeing this I think I am better off putting it down on my own. I hope that you were able to get that fixed. That is a total disgrace what they did to your home.

Well…lesson learned, my company subcontracted to this circus for 10 years, most fitters have nothing more than a van and a Stanley knife. It took us 10 years to build up a customer base big enough to leave. If you want a good quality of workmanship you will need to find a small independent company. You want the same person who quotes the job to fit it also. With retail stores the fitter gets paid per m2 that they fit, whereas we come and quote you at a price that we earn a lot more than we do working for these clowns and yet STILL you pay a lot less than buying from carpetright. Please try local independent companies. We care about reputation, we care about repeat custom…we care about your floor. Nobody knows more about floors than carpetright? 7 billion and counting!

Me and my daughter laid 3 lots of stairs ourselves, I bought of cuts of the same carpet, bit by bit from diffrent car pet right stores. Years back now. It work out quite cheap and we laid it ourself. Done a better job then they did. Bloody hell that's just not on paying all that money as well. The stairs are actually dangerous left like that

As a carpet fitter of 13 years that is disgusting! The stairs are a disgrace, the gripper rods are probably too far apart and none of the stairs have been chiselled in properly. The landing has the big bubble in the middle because they have stretched it back on itself. Nothing has been stretched properly at all. All carpet fitter fitters are supposed to be fita registered but I know a guy who collects the carpets from carpet right then gives them to another fitter whilst he goes off to do his own work. This other fitter is a lad who has been fitting for about a year and is crap to say the least. As long as carpet right are getting them fit they don't care at all as there are a hell of a lot of people that either don't know what it should look like or can't be bothered to complain. I do know that if I left a job looking like that I would get the chop!

I don't know what your trying to say here, but in all the time iv'e been fitting i have never heard any fitter say, that the stairs have not been "chiselled" in properly, sorry just saying :)

Robert Davies surely just means malleting the carpet using carpet bolster in between the gripper on the tread and riser which is normal practice . must admit havent heard anyone say chiseling though lol .

agreed, and maybe its a locality thing, I work mainly in north wales and we always say to bolster. for example: bolster in the stairs, because the tool that is used is a Bolster :) just didn't sound like something an experienced fitter would say.

Robert Davies we call it dinging the donkey ..it's a local term only used in a secret society of 30 years plus fitters ..I actually just shout at the carpet these days and it fits its self...

It's like big box stores here in the US. They probably have free installation up and ppl want free. These guys probably have no training and get paid nothing because of the way the labor charges are set up for the independent contractor.

Had a carpet fitted on the stairs and landing years ago. Carpet cost about £100, underlay about £50. Had a fitter fit all the carpet. Wrapped the stairs perfectly. Landing looked great. Cost to have it fit was £35. Lasted a solid 11 years until I took it up a few days ago. (Wanted a newer one). Carpetright offered to do the stairs and the landing for 750 quid. Kindly declined and left.

That is a bloody good job for carpetshite. I have been fitting for nearly 40 years and it used to pay well but now it doesn't so you get rushed poor work. I have never come across a shop that pays nearly enough for HSL when it takes so much time. My advice is never use a big store always an independent preferably that employs the fitter. I can honestly say that in ten years of working for one store I never had a complaint about my fitting.

After 4 WEEKS they came back and replaced the carpet on the stairs and new underlay free of charge.

jesus, absolute muppets. I Had same problem with fitters from Frank's 2 guys rocked up at 9:30 Saturday morning both looked pissed , cut carpet too short scratched the skirting to bits and left a pile of off cuts to hide where the carpet didn't fit up to the wall. It was just a fairly cheap remnant for living room but the whole reason of getting a fitter was I thought they would do a better job than I could do.

People forget that Carpetright only supplies the goods and that the installation is done by self employed fitters. What happens is that fitters can mess up and then all falls down on carpetright. They are who have.to deal with the fitters mistakes etc. But customers complaint for everything and try to get things for free. In this case of this man, no. It wasnt done properly.

Lol. Bulges are due to small off cuts of underlay not cleared up. Stairs: that's terrible. Landing. More bits of underlay - it takes on a tiny piece to create a bulge - and carpet near room cut too long and tucked in.

It’s not really carpet rights fault it the fitters but then again carpet right shouldn’t give them the work. the carpet you have on the stairs is a rubbish carpet to work with and is cheap but that’s no excuse to leave it like that. Stick to your day job, it’s all about personal preference. No reason what so ever you couldn’t get s Berber perfect on stairs. Also nothing wrong with shag pile but you’ll be replacing it in a years time. A wool mix in my opinion is the long term choice for stairs.
