Headstart: Former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio finds the alleged 'gentleman's deal' between former president Rodrigo Duterte and China 'disadvantageous' and does not apply to formal country policy. Former Duterte spokesperson Harry Roque said the former president and China agreed to maintain the status quo in the West Philippine Sea, and that resupply missions to the Philippine outpost in Ayungin Shoal will be limited to food and water supply, and no reconstruction.

Justice Carpio in his analysis is indeed patriotic. PBBM should take his point of view seriously. And maybe since WPS is an exclusive economic zone of the Philippines a military presence such as the navy be always ready to shoot any enemy intruders like what indonesia is doing. A "gentlemen's agreement" is a private agreement between two or more gentlemen. It is only binding on those particular gentlemen who are parties to the agreement. It is not an official agreement of any sort. An official agreement between the government of the Philippines and another state must pass through the approval of Congress and be officially documented. The "Duterte-China gentlemen's agreement" was a private agreement made by Duterte and not an official agreement authorized by the Philippine government. Therefore, it doesn't bind the Philippine government to that agreement, whatever that was. And China knows that very well. But China's biggest miscalculation probably was that it falsely assumed that more Filipinos would be pushovers like Duterte, which proved to be awfully wrong, and that it could bully its way to lawlessness in the international waters of the South China Sea and within the Philippine EEZ indefinitely, which was another grave miscalculation by China.

I heard in the previous news that it was in the time of then pres aquino, thru Gasmin, in 2014? That only food and water , will be brought to the serviceman station in the vessel. So I dont think duterte should be blamed. He only tried to maintain peace and carrying out the previous administratiins agreement. This is how I understand it.
