I put the PERL full strength on a bare set of tires & smoothed it out. Didn't touch the tires at all to see how long the matt shine would last. Driven daily, the PERL lasted for 7 weeks. That sold me.

I have used Poorboys natural look dressing since 2005 . First on a Mazda Mx5 door card with a patch of slightly different black and Poorboys was the onlyproduct at the time that resolved it. It’s not glossy just darkens things and looks natural . It’s a fairly thick liquid I have never thought of diluting it !

I have been using 303 aerospace for my interior trim, love the matte finish it gives with a new car like darkening effect. For tyres I have been using Opti Tyre Gel in a HVLP gun at 1:1 with great results, hardly use any product this way. I still need to find a product to give a more permanent (more then 3 months) restoration to faded exterior trim

Excellent video Jon, my favourite dressing for aesthetics is autoglym instant tyre although for a weekly clean I normally use megs D156 spray wax for window trim and interior plastics (and glass, and paint), gives a great look and provides a little protection/hydrophobicity ! but I haven't used any of the more permanent ones such as Gtechniq - would be sweet to see a comparison between pearl and gtechniq or something similar: water based vs nano based

Really like the look of that finish neat... nice and dark with a good level of gloss. I have a ton of tyre dressing products to get through but this is definitely one I want to try. Reminds me of Trim Reaper from Autoglanz, Slick Monkeys Tarzipan or even Obsession Wax Nero.

It is all about it's superior UV protection, but I think you will also like the rich dark finish that provides. I would really like to hear your opinion about this product. Keep up the good work!

Once I need another tyre/trim dressing, I will definitely try some Perl. It looks a bit too shiny for my dash but perfect for exterior plastics and the engine. My go to for the dash is Gtechniq C6 Matte Dash. Leaves the most natural looking finish with plenty of protection.

i wouldnt worry about that too much.. like the finish is shiney satin on application but a day later it settles down to more matt.. but you can really see the darkening effect on the internal plastics and vinyl.. thats what I like... gets me back from a charcoal dash to a darker black dash (a bit)

PERL is the bomb diggity! Have you tried it on leather yet? That's the only application I have not used it on yet, but I've been happy with the restorative effects on tires , interior and exterior trim/dash. I actually use PERL undiluted on my tires. I find the hydrophobicity and look last longer. Love how it dries to a nice, matter finish with just a hint of sheen. Really makes them look brand new. Great channel btw. Just came across it and have been watching a bunch of your videos. Cheers from Canada!

I use this product on a Mini Cooper, the external plastics look great all the time it’s dry but when it rains it looks like it’s half washed off leaving it looking streaky. I wish I went for the Solution Finish now because the reviews suggest it doesn’t go streaky or leave water marks. I love my cars looking mint but the least amount of time I have to spend dicking around, the better.

Just got some perl to try John. my only uncertainty is I like to keep my bottles made up ready for instant use. and as you dilute it to varying levels for different applications it seems the only way is to have several spray bottles at the differing dilutions and reach for them as needed, although this seems a little inefficient. how do you do it?

Hi Used this today for the 1st time on my sis car. The result got really patchy/streaky (not sure if that is the correct words , i´m swedish) . Solution was 1:3 . Especially on the plastic panel below the windshield (Volvo V70) . Used a application pad to put it on and a light rub with a mf after. Could this be because the plastic was a bit warm ? Did i not use enough amount of Perl ?

yer its a different kind of thing.. megs doesnt bond or dry out.. so its really only suitable for tyres.. or maybe exterior trim (but I wouldnt use it on trim personally).. Perl you can use inside and out on anything and everything.. and its very good value... I use have megs endurence in the arsenal.. but with perl you dont really need anything else..

I applied AngelWax dressing on my dashboard after a few hours of seating outside on a mild day here in California. Jon have you tried the 303 products before, for Marine and aero usage , expensive at 13 pounds for 500 ml , but I hear it prolongs life of all plastics and even prolongs tyre wear as well with in built uv filters etc, it's cheap as chips in the u.s. by the gallon but almost 100 quid over here

if you use perl on the dash make sure its at the recomended low cncentration. I like the look. its not too glossy and it dries smooth.. test it though on a little area and see what you think Brad. Its a good restorer and protector this product and seems to work well on everything.

I have trim reaper yes.. I think the darkening restorative effect is greater on PERL.. but If I remember correctly trim reaper but a reall good repellent seal down which is handy for external trim.

Pro tip: Use Meg’s heavy duty all purpose cleaner first on your tyres before applying Perl. Then spray it on and use a blower to get it into the little gaps then wipe off the extra.

I decided to give this product a go after years of using 303 Protectorant. I just wanted something longer lasting. I tried it on my vehicle a MYO 4 Subaru Outback. I used Megs Super Degreaser as a cleaning agent and wiped off residue straight away. I then applied Perl to dash, door cards etc and wiped dry with MF cloth. Initially results looked good. I went back and checked 10 mins later and noticed some areas where product seemed to have given 2 different finishes. The two main areas of concern were the door cards and dash.The majority of the areas where product applied looked like it had worked as advertised leaving a darker texture. Unfortunately those areas were also interspersed with areas where I noticed it had dried in a lighter shade and was very noticeable. And in one area it was down right just ugly, looked like something had dripped down door card. Never expected this and never had it happen with 303 Protectorant. I kept checking around steering wheel and noticed product had finished well on blinker and wiper stick, vents, steering column and glove box which is same material as door cards and dash. I thought maybe product needs more time to work its way in and kept an eye on it for next few days but unfortunately no change. I also used on rubber seals ( doors and windows ) and product worked very well. I remembered this also happened on some areas of the interior of a Porsche Macan I had detailed earlier in week. Perl had also worked as advertised on the rough textured plastics on exterior but gave a streaky finish to the smooth plastic roof rails. So I'm looking at inconsistent results over differing surfaces. Haven't tried on leather yet but I will do shortly. Tomato out...

I think that might be some sort of pentration thing.. I dont think Ive ever seen the problems you describe with perl but Ive seen it with other product.. I also think they tweaked the formula of it a while back.. roof rails are not usually plastic, im wondering if it was a painted surface? not sure. but great feedback though mate thats what its all about...

Thanks for reply FDC...I have to agree although I can't 100% say so. My life would be so much less stressful if I had the answer to all the things that don't go as directed on package or I was also an industrial chemist. It almost looks like the area is sealed but the part where it was supposed to darken the plastic has failed to penetrate leaving it looking like I missed random areas. As this is my car and not customers it has saved me embarrassment of having to clean it all off again and reapply with 303. My first thoughts were something had stopped product from penetrating and I thought back to the process I had used to clean the areas to see if I had done anything different. Everything was the same as I normally do. It's a bummer I can't put a photo on here although I did a short video on my channel showing the inconsistent results. It's named Car Pro Perl WTF...if you do happen to watch it you will see that the lack of penetration pattern on the drivers door is just plain weird. I may not of used the right terminology regarding roof rails. I meant the housing the covers the side are plastic. I can tell when I tap them. Cheers mate...

Im thinking excess product has run down from the crevace above and dried on the surface. I think the silicone oxide is the component thats leaving the white stains.. but thats also at the heart of how the product works... I think any rubber or vinyl dressing thats a loose liquid and white could have the potential to do this. really needs to be worked in and then any excess buffed up with a microfiber maybe.. but things like this can play a role in what you pick.. so if you have a product you prefer that never does this, then thats like the final thing that can effect decision making.. but that product might not have the restorative effect pearl does.. Im currently testing it against solution finish on faded plastic and its holding its own right now.. ive also not personally had this issue either but totally respect this feedback.

The funny thing is I just went and brought takeaway Thai for dinner and on the way back the excess product thing sprang into my mind. As 303 allows excess and slowly soaks in, and is the method I'm used to using with dressing I have to admit it's looking like an operator error situation. Ah well I live and learn...So I'm going to clean it off and reapply using less product. I'm thinking IPA 50/50 and MF cloth although I have never tried to remove this product before. Any thoughts on removal process? I'm also going to change from foam applicator to MF and work product in more. problem is even though the dressing will stick around for at least a month.. the tyre, no matter what product you use gets dirty.. and then cleaning the tyre usually involves scrubbing and after that you want to reapply your dressing... thats the case for pretty much all of them.. you end up stripping them by scrub cleaning... but you need to scrub them to clean :( I cant see any product being able to solve this problem..

it darkens better than 303. it does dry off a lot but not 100% I would not use on rubber floor matts, health and safety reasons. if you get any of the material on your feet. it can leave like white spots if you over concetrate is on exterior rubbers. Its also not the most durable tyre dressing out there and can be a bit patchy. but when you get to grips with it I think its a great versatile affordable product when you dilute it down and its a sucess.

Have you used Meguar's Hyper Dressing? It has many applications and lasts a long time. If so, how would you compare it against CarPro Perl? Thank you.

I use it 4:1 for tires and wheel wells, 8:1 and 10:1 for engine bays and exterior trim. A small amount of product goes a long way and Meguiar's sells it in a gallon container. It produces a ton of gloss at 4:1 (too much for my taste, but I offer it as a "high gloss" option).

I agree that the condition of the plastic plays a big role in a product's ability to change its appearance (for the better). I worked on the black pebble-textured trim of a truck recently that was so hazy and oxidized that no reasonable amount of cleaning and topical restorer would help it.

Perl and Hyper dressing both used to have the same chemistry until carpro made some changes so it lasts a bit longer now than Hyper dressing. I've used both and can say they really are very very similar. You couldn't go wrong with either product.

Hi mate do you still use this stuff? Or something better out now? … and how do you apply to tyres?…. Spray on and work in with brush or sponge? Odd for a concentrate to come in a spray bottle?

I still use it but I use TAC systems seal same stuff. tyre 1:1 spray into a big hogg hair brush and brush on.. can pre spray some onto the tyre. I like to put loads on leave for 1 hour then remove excess with a rag. ideally then leave overnight.

Have you used Aerospace 303 or Optimum Leather Protectant? I've been using 303 and would like to know how it compares to Perl in terms of leaving a matte finish and durability. If it performs just as good or close I think I found a new interior protectant since it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

I don't like glossy/shiny, I just want it to look 'new' again; so I use some matt Sonax plastic conditioner and a special Sonax rubber conditioner.

i just checked the test tyre.. its not glossey.. its not greasey its dried to a lovely dark OEM look with just a hint of shine... Im guessing the sonax products could be really cool as well.. so what whats for you is always the ultimate winner.. but this is great on tyres for me as well.

All good point for this review... I've been using PERL for more than a year, and i must say there is something NEGATIVE about it. At 1:1 on tires, it will leave a greasy touch on the tire. And i've tried on multiple tire just to exclude a specific tire issue. After a month (you can get a month of effect on tires if good condition), if you put your finger on the tire, you will get quite a lot of nasty black goo. A good degreaser will be needed to get everything off in my case. My conclusion on the matter is that either you have to buff off the tire after the product has cured (15-30min), or use a higher dilution which i haven't tried yet. Same thing on the interior, i advise to buff off after the product had time to cure. It may not be a big issue, but i think people need to know this. Especially on interior, having some residue is not great. It's also a disadvantage for me, i hate spending more time on each panel/tire to comeback and buff the product. What about you John ? Did you notice the same problem?

on my test tyre the product has been sitting for about a week since shooting this. I kind of see what your saying looking at the test tyre.. Its not as bad at megs.. but yer a little bit of greasy feel.. I went 1:0... I suspect if you go down to 1:3 it will be less notacable but there might be a trade off in durability. products like angelwax elixir and opti bond tyre gel are better on this front... but less prolific or less like noticable immedietly after application.. so theres options there is you have an issue or spot something you dont like.. great stuff mate its great when peeps feedback their thoguhts like this.

Forensic Detailing Channel of course, i try to get involve in the discussion, especially on a product that i know well. And perl has been hyped for quite some time now, for his multi purpose and excellent value. But, i think there is room for improvement, especially on the residue left. you could dilute it more to reduce this, but then the durability could be reduce. thats the only critic i have for pearl, and it can be a turn off for some people i think. in my case, i will still use it because i m looking for some good value and a product that can dress it all.

Do you recommend cleaning the rubber window trim before applying carpro perl? Mine is getting a little bit brown, so I'm thinking it might need a bit of cleaning before applying perl. Any advice?

yes definetly. dont scrub the window trim too hard or any rubber too hard though when you clean it. you could use a alcohol solvent glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth or IPA and water wipe down. then apply the perl at recomended concentration. dont over concentrate it over you can get little white spots, although these tend to disapear on their own.
