So, the front seats fail entirely and send the front seat occupants into the back seat, but it’s ok because the seats get supported by the rear bumper and any of the rear seat occupants, which are now up in the front seat area. Great design feature.

It's important to note that this test had not been the FMVSS 301 requirement at the time. These tests in the 90's were done as research to support use of this updated requirement that was later mandated in the late-00's. Edit: The FMVSS 301 requirement at this time was a full-overlap at 30 Mph, and seat backs still struggled at that speed.
