HURRR DURRRRR. The PERSON operating the VAR needs to be COMPETANT. They can use their common sense combined with football knowledge and make the 'right' decision at the higher percentage rate (more often). A competent person can do this more even with 1% of the resources.

@Blacknig69also the players and managers get grilled by media all the time, refs never have to answer for their 'mistakes' plus are defended by the refereeing association while also choosing the direction the sport moves in as they just make new rules every season (for example the fact that nearly any tackle touching an opponent is a foul even if u get the ball)

@Blacknig69but being a ref ain’t a “normal” job, and due to arrogant posts from many like yourself, there’s no where near enough refs around to go about sacking any that do make mistakes. As even then, usually they do get it right, but because it’s up for debate/is against a fans team, are just automatically said to be wrong 😂 🤦🏻‍♂️ As they’re human at the end of the day, mistakes are inevitable, yet they seem to get highlighted a lot more by the media for missing that debatable pen call, than the player who missed that open goal chance!

Tennis, rugby, etc have clearly defined rules, both use challenge systems and there are few grey areas. Football isn't like that. I still think VAR should only be deployed if a manager requests it. Give them a set number of challenges each match.

All refereeing is. I truly believe anyone who appears/manages in a football match at any level of football should be required to referee at least 5 games of Sunday league/youth football. It's way harder than it looks. Maybe that would lower dissent, or at least the most extreme examples of it.

Tbf (and I’m a united fan so take this with a pinch of salt) the rules at the time allowed it as he did not touch the ball, however the rules were changed shortly after (because of this moment) so he would have been offside, and it is now written into the laws of the game officially starting from this season.

Answer: because they have the $$ to do it and on some level, it probably attracts people into those jobs and helps performance. I watched the highlights of THe Ashes and thought Technology was brilliant as it, perfectly,is in line with the rhythm of Cricket and very quick.I could not imagine cricket without it. I am in my 7th decade of attending matches and hate VAR and the way it STILL slows the game down. If it was just used for cheating like Bamford's famous " Dying Swan" routine which he also used against that famous Villa match where Leeds, literally,gave Villa a goal. GOAL LINE technology is brilliant as it is INSTANT and virtually 100% accurate. They still get VAR wrong which negates the "The old system could cost a team the title" view. THank Heavens we still have a FLOWING game in the lower leagues.

The problem isn't the technology, it's the proper application of it. Offside decisions are made in seconds in Europe due to using the semi automated system. Over here it take someone several minutes to make a decision and then for some reason there's an additional dely between when we can see the decision on TV and when the referee announces it in the stadium. Also, we all know that when the referee is called over that means 99% he is going to overturn his decision. Someone who is not the referee should not effectively be making the call.

Incompetence mate and it hasn't improved one bit since last season... Arsenal v Forest: A clear handball (penalty) by Rice not given and VAR didn't step in for whatever reason. Brighton v Luton: Luton's penalty should've been overturned by VAR, never a handball as the ball hits the defenders hip before brushing off his elbow when going down. VAR will never be fair with incompetent referees... 😒

so do var have 2 or 3 looking at different angles at the same time then 1 looks for offside one looks for foul play one looks for handballs or do they work together as a collective all agree on potential issues then look from different angles. who selects the angle and incident to put on screen etc. Are all the var staff prem refs or have their ref licences or specifically var hired and trained. I think a bit more into it would be intresting
