I think main reason, both Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson got out from that story about Carrie calling Tony, which she didn't. As I recall only thing, Carrie said was she didn't care, Jessica was dating Tony. But Carrie's fans took over and Jessica and Tony didn't want anything to do with the backlash. Thus both say Carrie didn't call. Thus ending it.

Everyone assumes this song refers to Tony Romo, who Carrie dated for awhile. Carrie is the one who ended it, not Tony. Tony's ego couldn't handle the fact that Carrie was and still is more popular than he was at the time. When Carrie attended a Cowboy game, the crowd focused on Carrie more than Tony. And I believe Carrie, that she didn't call Tony while he was dating Jessica Simpson. That was a phony story invented by The Star and Enquirer to get Carrie to response, she didn't. Her fans did. I LOVE Carrie, have been watching her since Idol. Her, Jennifer Hudson, Rubin, Clay, Fantasia, and Kelly Clarkson are my favorites. However, I grew bored with the show after a handful of seasons and stopped watching.
