IDK about that, I'm a male deep baritone and I can hit all of her high notes with ease, and I know she can't go nearly as low as I can, I hit all but the lowest bass notes. I could go an octave higher than she does without leaning into it and sounding all nasally. I think your eyes are effecting you opinion and don't blame you.

I loved it when she put her hand behind her back at 0:38 signaling to her band to slow the tempo just a bit. If you've ever played live, especially under pressure and the first time for a new song, you know exactly how that goes. Just makes her and the band a little more real somewhere under everything that goes into a production like this. Beautiful.

My favorite country vocalist. I know she is not perfect technically, like she pushes some of her belts and can sound tense at times. But theres something about her singing that sounds honest to me, and thats whats more important to me. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of her vocal tone as well, but when I listen to her voice and delivery as a whole, it just feels like magic. She has some magic that I can't explain. There is a certain genuinness and vulnerability in her voice. I feel such peace and magic that I don't feel in many artists. She sings from the heart, not just from her diaphragm. I get emotional whenever I watch her perform.

Ok guys, a few things to put in perspective: 1. This is her first time doing this song live on TV, also first time on Colbert. 2. She wrote this song about her miscarriages so it might be emotionally difficult to sing. 3. She has been touring extensively and did a sold out show at Madison Square Garden before this so her vocal might have not rested well enough. 4. For those who said there’s no nuance, do yourself a favor by listening to the album version. This song has always been the fan favorite and among the more traditional country sounding ones off the album.

bro, she's flat OVERALL in the last few years and denying it is stupid because it's NORMAL. she's getting older and so are her vocal chords, she still sings the hell out of a song better than most but she clearly struggles to hit the higher notes and there's nothing wrong with admiting to that. carrie herselfs admits to it. it's FINE. chill.

@@user-fc8mf2is4b no she does not. Instead she's said that her vocals have gotten better and better over the years. Sure her voice has changed but I wouldn't say to any worse. Carrie's band has always been great - Mark Childers, her musical director, who plays bass and Ed Eason who plays guitar have been with her right from the beginning, the two on Carrie's right looking out to the audience, 15 years!!!! pretty amazin! Garrett Goodwin , a phenom drummer and Chad Jeffers who plays pedal steel guitar, sitting in the center, have been with her for over 10 years -Sydney Perry her back up singer , a woman, also plays the fiddle has been with her for quite a few years,, the keys player and others have changed over time but always stayed with it for 5 years or more. Shawn Tubbs the acoustic guitar player was with her ten years but left a few years ago - her band has always been excellent
