Just did a big, unplanned closet cleanup to donate to the LA wildfire victims and it feels SO good! I just kept thinking, "I want this, but they need this." and I was able to get rid of so many things I've been holding onto. Being 4'11, I know a lot of my stuff will end up in the hands of teen girls who have just lost everything and knowing that my items will go to a young person who's entire world has been flipped upside down filled my heart. I really recommend seeking out women's shelters over simply donating to the average thrift store. Knowing items are going to someone deeply in need helps me be more cut throat!

I've commented it before but I'd love to see you do a "no buy" challenge for clothing for like, 3 or 6 months? It'll give you a good idea of what you actually wear in your wardrobe or what you're truly missing. It'll also help you break the cycle of dopamine shopping/buying.

The 75 Hard Style Challenge changed my life! It was so good, honestly. It's changed my shopping habits, I identified gaps in my wardrobe, and I now have a clearer idea of what I truly like and feel good in - not to mention I'm shopping less and shopping my closet more.
@ButtonGirl22Күн бұрын
Something that helped me start my no buy was to make a “wants” list in my notes app where I put the link/name of something I want. And I kind of gives me the same hit of dopamine because I’m “saving it for later” but then I can thinking about it longer and 99% of the time I will never actually buy it. Also having a spending tracker in my planner has been good to make me see visually what days I’m spending vs not spending

I did this combined with a major declutter and now I know which pieces I want to add (which is not much) to my closet to finally complete it. It's such a great way to stop buying useless things or repeated pieces that you don't need.

If there is something you like, I feel like just wear it with jeans and that's good enough. At least that way you can get use out of it. I feel like not everything has to be "styled". It's too much pressure. Some stuff is just cute/unique so you should try to let the funky shirts do the talking and just wear it with some basic bottoms.

You should try putting all your hanger hooked the other direction and every time you ware an item you hang it back up with the hanger now facing the normal direction. So by the time you decide to clean out your closet again you'll see all the items you did not wear with how the hangers face.

Maybe in your next closet cleanout video you should consider trying all your clothes on to better determine if you should hang on to the item or not. I know it would be more effort but would prob help you purge more things. I feel like a lot of the times I will want to keep an item of clothing I haven't worn in a long time and then I try it on and change my mind immediately.

Carrie. You collect clothing. And much like any collector you love your collection and like to look at and enjoy your collection. Many collections don’t have a “use” accept the use of loving and enjoying and admiring it. Clothing is supposed to have a use… but who is to say that the nostalgia and joy from a clothing item we don’t wear isn’t the same thing
@melanieg.9092Күн бұрын
That's when I decided to seperate the items I wear and the ones that I like looking at. Doesn't have to be in a different wardrobe but just one side could be things I wear and the other things I like looking at or maybe dress up in once in a while at home (medieval stuff for me). Doesn't mean the items can never switch sides but I noticed I hat a bunch of clothes but often ran out of clothing to wear. Because I just saw a full closet I didn't notice I was lacking in actual clothes (not only everyday but also dress wear and so on)😅

Yes! I watched a video about trends that are dead recently, and half of what they mentioned are staples in my wardrobe! I think having a personal style is refreshing and unique, not outdated.

It would be so good if you made two lists: one list of your absolute favourite items, what they’re made from, and exactly what you love about them (not just “cute”) for example where it hits on your body, fabric feel etc and then the second list should be a bunch of items you never ever wear and why you don’t wear them (for example, I have a top I’m going to get rid of that I LOVE in theory but it just feels too fussy and I never feel good wearing it because it has a huge collar and puffy sleeves and that doesn’t fit my style). The lists will help you identify what you should/shouldn’t bring into your wardrobe going forward. I’ve managed to reach a point now where I’m buying WAY less and most of the items I’m bringing into my wardrobe get worn regularly

Love a long closet clean-out video! One potential idea for future closet clean-outs that I've found super successful (and have now gotten my ADHD stuff-loving husband to try, too) is if I say "I love this but..." while decluttering and can list any hesitation (it's itchy, it doesn't fit quite right but isn't alterable, I'm not sure I love the style anymore but I'm still sentimental about the garment), then it goes in a bin in a different closet. If I remember something is in the bin, I can dig it out. If not, then I donate the whole thing after 6 months or a year. It makes me realize I can live without something without the pain of saying an immediate goodbye! If I still love/think about something but don't actually want to wear it anymore, I also let myself keep a few pieces in my "closet archive" in a separate closet - this is a small handful of stuff that represented me at a particular time in my life. I have to set a limit for how much stuff can go there, but getting it out of my actual closet when I'm making decisions every morning is SO helpful.

I have a suggestion that has been working for me . Put like colors together and put a backwards hanger in the beginning. Then throughout the season after you wear something put it in front on the backwards hanger. At the end I if the season you will know exactly what you actually wear . I also live in the desert so either very warm or cold and windy!

@BeatlesNinjaКүн бұрын
Here is my tip for making the hard decisions on "should I keep this" when it's something I like but don't reach for. At the beginning of the year (or season if you rotate your wardrobe), hang every item with the hook going the wrong way. As you wear things and rehang them after cleaning, hang it back with the hook facing the right way. At the end of every season, you have a clear-cut visual of what you actually wore and enjoyed. The important thing for this, though, is that if you reach for something and you have to put it back for whatever reason (couldn't style it, didn't fit right, etc) you put the hook back facing the wrong way. You may reach for things alot, but constantly put it back. Take those things out of closet. They are taking up space.

I would recommend to style the pieces you dont wear with pieces you do wear and then, live in the outfit for a couple of hours. When you wear it for a longer period you start to develop a better opinion about the piece and hopefully you like it more because of it. (Or you see why you dont like it, and you can part ways with it easier.) Would love to see a video of you Styling clothes that you don't wear often💜
@lesleyvanruttenКүн бұрын
Also when you dont wear it often, turn the hanger that its facing the other way, this is how you can see how many pieces you dont wear and if you want to challenge yourself, pick the pieces on the turned hanger to make an outfit from for a week or maybe a month.

For the white tees, have you tried laundry stripping in a bathtub with borax? Maybe that's what you were talking about, but figured I'd ask if not. Also, switching to natural deodorants helped me eliminate pit stains. I use a combo of crystal deodorant (right out of the shower) and then Hume Supernatural for everyday. It takes awhile to detox from aluminum (you can use an amazonion clay mask), but aluminum is what causes the staining. The only downside is you have to learn to become comfortable with some wetness if you were using an antiperspirant before, but that gets better over time

They might not be the tee for you (since everyone has different tastes) but the thicker color and fabric have really done the trick for me. ❣ Love your content!!

Such a fun video to watch. I was told about a closet hack a couple of years ago that I’ve never done. Starting January 1, once you wear an item in your closet when you put it away, turn the hanger the other way when you put it back, so at the end of the year, you will know all the things you actually wore that year. Once the year is up, you can decide if you actually still want it.

I recently did a declutter and I too thought (I have all these great clothes) many casual pieces, nothing too fancy for everyday life, yet I never wear most of them. I'm in my 30s including my friends and we just don't go out as often like we did in our 20s. Maybe because the economy is bad or some of us have kids or just overall everyone has to work a lot. Could be a combination of all those things, but yeah I'm just going to have to wear a different piece to run boring errands just to get in wear.
