Hello, thank you for this video! Now what happens if the molars and premolars are already perfectly adjusted, but there is an over- or underbite from the canines forward. Will the Carrier Motion device affect this balance between the back teeth, or can this balanced perfect bite from the back of the mouth be maintained while moving them backwards ?

I would speak with your orthodontist, but if your molars and premolars are perfectly aligned with a correct bite then he or she would probably just use aligners or braces to correct the anterior bite

Hello! Thanks for your very informative video! Does this appliance provide results that last forever (or at least very long) or is there a risk that the jaw position comes back to its initial state after the treatment? Thank you for your reply :D

Hi Nassi! Jaws can shift overtime. They can outgrow treatment if you are still a growing adolescent or yes can relapse some (especially for non-growing adults) but in general this appliance provides a very good and long lasting result. Your teeth interdigitating properly will also help the bite correction remain stable over time.

Hi, thank you for sharing this information. My main question is if the motion appliance for a class 2 bite has a negative or positive affect on the airway? Thanks
@orthoeducator7574
@orthoeducator7574 3 жыл бұрын
Research has shown that bringing the lower jaw into a more forward position can have a positive affect on the airway because it helps to open up the airway. This is one very small part of a very big discussion but the answer would be that in many cases bringing the lower jaw forward and fixing a class two bite would have a positive affect on the airway. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!

Just to add to this, remember I am not an orthodontist and I am not an airway specialist or an ENT. I do know that there are certain types of appliances that help with sleep apnea and these particular types of appliances position the lower jaw more forward. Also, when a patient is undergoing oral surgery there is always an assistant at the head of the patient positioning their lower jaw more forward and monitoring their oxygen levels, this is because that position helps the airway to stay open. When performing CPR you also tip the head back and left the chin as a way to open the airway. Airway and sleep apnea and how dental and orthodontics can help that is relatively a very new school of thought.

Thank you so much for the explanation! I just had it installed for underbite, with the metal bands around my molars and the metal bar in my upper jaw. I kinda wish they would’ve given me a retainer because my teeth are still incredibly sore from the metal band. They also had to file my teeth to get it to fit. Any idea how long can I expect to be sore? Thank you!!

Hey Joel! Usually you are only sore for three or four days. When placing bands sometimes the gum tissue gets a little roughed up so if it's not soreness of the tooth but soreness of the tissue it could take closer to a week. Hopefully by today you are feeling much better. Be very consistent with wearing your rubber bands and that will help you to get over the tooth soreness of rubber band wear quicker. And yes the retainer is a more comfortable but now you don't have to worry about losing it or breaking it or having to remember to take it in and out. The holding arch you have has its benefits as well. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a class 2 bite and I'm experiencing a lot of pain in my top canine teeth where the front of the metal bar is. Is this normal? As I'm only seeing people mentioning experiencing pain from the retainer, on their bottom teeth or from the appliance rubbing on their mouth.

Yes this is normal. As you can imagine since you have the Carriere's (bars) in your mouth now, it induces a lot of pressure/tension on those canines due to the correction happening. It is also normal for you to feel soreness while wearing the retainer on the bottom teeth. Week by week as you change your aligner, it will be a different fit hence causing the soreness or discomfort. Some may experience it more than others. You can take Tylenol or ibuprofen in this matter. Your mouth will slowly adjust to the soreness or pain over a few weeks, although it is normal for you to experience over the course of the treatment. If the pain prolongs and is unbearable check in with your Ortho for next options

I know this video is a few years old but I have a question I can’t find an answer to! How much mm of movement can this appliance provide for class 2? For example if I have a 10 mm overjet, what could it potentially bring it down to? Tia:)

Hi friend, I don’t post a lot of videos on here but I do check the comments still 😊 It depends on what your space is from. If you have a true skeletal issue that has your bite off 10 mm that’s probably going to be a surgical option but if it is due to a lot of space and your teeth are flared out then this could be an option that would correct your bite. It also depends if your lower jaw needs to go forward or your upper jaw back or combination of the two. Yes, in my practice our doctor has taken care of 10 mm overjet with changing the angle of teeth, closing spaces, and using this appliance but as I said before it depends on each individual situation. This is a much easier appliance for patients than something like a Herbst appliance and obviously much more conservative than surgery but I would discuss it with your orthodontist and see what is going to be best for you. Good luck with everything!

All of the videos I see on this appliance seem to indicate it is used to bring the front teeth back... But I need my lower jaw brought toward... My ortho tells me that this appliance will bring my jaw forward. I'm worried because all the info I find is about moving the top teeth distally...ie backward....
@Tucker1B

The majority of the motion of this appliance is to bring the top teeth back but yes, you do get the lower jaw coming forward just slightly. If you really need your lower jaw to come forward, you want to look into an appliance called a Herbst appliance or possibly needing jaw surgery. Good luck and keep smiling!
