I journal because I suffer from anxiety and depression. Being able to write out my feelings, ideas and interests is so helpful and calming. I can write up to four A4 pages a day, some days much less. I actually get anxious when I'm running out of space in my journal because I need it! I always have to have a backup at hand. Which reminds me I need to buy one 😐. I sometimes draw or paint a page too 😁.

I would assume that most people who journal can relate to this, if they didn't start really early. I started journaling November 2020, at 16 years old and eventually I started daily journaling on January 1st 2022 (Wish I started going daily earlier aswell). It's easy to say that I wish I started as soon as I learned to write, but couldn't I at least have started on January 1st 2020. Not just because of all the craziness around Covid (Not THAT crazy since I live in Sweden, no lockdown), but because I started at a new school that fall. Wish I would've written about that whole adventure, and I also would've enjoyed having some memories written down from the school I went to before that.

Hey so i started journaling back in 2016 when i was like 8 years old and over the year my journaling pattern changed so much at first it was just a random notebook i use to write about my day ones in a while or a place for me and my friends to scribble or write stuff during class, than in 2018 i started writing more frequently though i lost both my 2018 and 2019 diary , than finally in 2021 i started writing properly and now after almost 8 years of journaling I have started writing daily its been like 28days only but still I am so glad I am doing it. You find ur style of journaling eventually , instead of sitting down to write all my thoughts at one time I have started writing throughout my day when ever i feel like I start a entry at 12AM and end it before sleeping this way i am able to document my thoughts instead of just sitting down ones and trying to write them all down. I hope this is the beginning of my daily journaling

I'm starting a daily journal in 2025!! Any tips?
@oliverbrunninge10 күн бұрын
@@kaylaroseharwood2810 Carrie's tips are great, I wished I began writing with ink earlier, Carrie convinced me and setting an alarm is great, I would recommend setting it so late that you don't think "I'll do it later", mine is att midnight, but I get a notification at 22.00 (10 pm). I've been journaling since 2020 and been doing it daily since January 1st 2022 (Missed some days this year because I had to go to the hospital). Here are some things I would recommend thinking about. Be careful with how much you share your entries. I do now and then read some things I've written to my friends, being conscious of the fact that you sometime in the future may share your entries with someone else isn't optimal though, being honest in a journal is something I find hard enough as it is and this doesn't make it easier. I don't see it as a huge problem though, many of my entries are really personal. I also want to add that you absolutely don't have to share your entries with anyone. You'll have to accept that there will be many days where you have no inspiration to write. I've had periods with several days in a row where I've hade no idea of what to write, or I just had the feeling that it was pointless since all I did those days was watching KZbin and chilling out. I would recommend you to always carry your journal with you, if you can and are comfortable with it. Most of my favourite journal entries have been written outside of my home. I've written at school, in parks, at the mall, on the bus, on planes or wherever I've been when I've wanted to journal. If something really exciting is going on during your day, let's say your travelling and you want to remember many details and the timeline. In these situations I have sometimes written small notes and the time it happened in my phone to write about it later. Don't be afraid about writing about things that have nothing to do with your day. Maybe you're in to politics, or animals, or sports, write about things you care. If you like listening to music I would recommend writing down what songs you listen to at the moment. This is especially great when you one day in future return to those pages and you are able to turn on those songs you listened to back then, it really elevates the reading experience. A great way to fill up the pages is to make lists of any sort. I wrote down my whole top 100 on Spotify Wrapped. I've ranked all the songs by my favourite artist, George Ezra. But you can make lists, ranked or not, about whatever you want. One thing I started doing this year is that I some days chose to dedicate a few pages to a single person. You probably write about quite a few people in your life other than yourself. Giving them a few pages is both really fun but it will also help your future self to understand that person who you may or may not forget in the future. Be creative and try new things. I have the luxury to know three languages and have written in all of them to mix things up. I've asked AI how I should write. Yesterday I completely ignored the lines on my page, I wrote in every direction possible. It was only short comments and it looks really messy, but it was fun. And some days you will have the luxury of being able to write page after page after page using only your pen.

I started journaling on July 1st 2023 at 16 so July 2025 will be my 2 years of journaling! A bit sad I didn't start journaling earlier (I had a failed attempt from 2021 and a "vent book" I kept from 11-15, but that one only has drawings and negative entries) but even just looking back at my thoughts from 1 year ago is so insightful (and sometimes cringey, but that's the beauty of it). Carrie, you were one of my inspirations for why I started journaling, I have a few entries about you and I try a lot of the journaling techniques you use (like putting words in a different color to make them pop! or using white on a sticky note) Though lately a problem I've been having while journaling is getting sidetracked by a random thing mid entry and it taking longer than it should because I'm not 100% focused

On the note of journaling everyday to avoid getting behind and avoiding journaling all together, I used to struggle a lot with that but one thing that helps me ( I don't journal everyday) is to write how I'm feeling, what I want to write about ect on my email and screenshot it to copy it over later, or to write it in my notes app and do the same. I also found it was less intimidating that way so I'm able to be more honest and document smaller details I probably wouldn't have otherwise. I would recommend copying them over at the end of the week if you write very often throughout the week to avoid getting really backed up but I hope that helps and made sense ❤️

I like using my journal to write about random interests I have at the moment! I'm a huge rambler, so I almost write as if I'm talking to a friend or myself. I used to spend hours of my time rambling to my friends all about my favorite video games, or an artist I really like whilst knowing they don't care at all so having a journal has helped me express myself without actually talking to someone.

Hi Carrie!! I've been journaling since the beginning of 2022. I randomly reread one of the Dork Diaries books that I was obsessed with in elementary and middle school and decided to start my own diary lol. My first few entries look IDENTICAL to the first Dork diaries book 😂 But I was never consistent with it until July of this year. Your videos (especially the reading your old diaries) really motivated me to write more often. And now I've been daily journaling since September!! It has helped me in so many ways like dealing with complex emotions and hard days. I'm almost done with my 3rd journal and it's a really special one since I started it in September in my first week of college! I call it my college diaries haha. THANK YOU so much for inspiring me and so many others every single day! Love you 💗

I have kind of a similar story!! I was also inspired by a different book (The Top-Secret Diary of Celie Valentine) in 2019, and my first two entries were almost WORD FOR WORD what was written in the first couple pages in the book, but I stopped journaling all of last year. I started again after seeing Carrie's sixth reading-her-diary videos! And it's absolutely crazy...I've been daily journaling since September 24th of this year!

There are times that I literally write that I don't know what to say or write, and so often my writing will flow from that point, to writing the next thoughts I have and then the next. Just writing what I'm thinking at that moment. Making sure of putting the date and time as well. By the way Carrie, your video's have been a great source of inspiration and help. Both color, and consistency, even though I have gone days lately without journaling. Misplacing my journal is usually a factor. But your channel is the best in my opinion. If I may: I am soon to be 64; I started keeping a journal/diary when I was in 5th grade. It was full of what happened, plans and dreams of my future. When I hit a brick wall in my life at about 26 and was cleaning out a closet, I 'found' those diaries. I spent about an hour reading through them, being hard on myself and life choices and ended up burning them all in a charcoal cooker thing. My thoughts were, "well, ... that was then and I am on a completely different, harder, uglier path now - I need a new and fresh start and path". About two weeks after the deed, I really, really regretted doing that. So, promise yourself, to never ever destroy you journals! Ever! For any reason - even if you have to pack them up in a box ... when you get to be my age, you will wish you had them.
