@Georgina Orwell I can't say that you're totally wrong. There's obviously a difference between general support, and constant self-congratulatory arrogance. On the 6th episode of Cats Does Countdown, when Miles Jupp is offering to make a side bet with Sean on a round of numbers, after scoffing at the notion of betting his stuffed rodent pen mascot "Claude" (a singularly classic gag in and of itself) or for £1000 cash, he instead generously asserts that if Miles wins "I tell you what--I won't spit on you when we're having sex tonight." That single line brings me to tears no matter how many times I see it. The deranged genius that produces such an unexpected and disarming response. It left Jimmy Carr in such a state that the entire round came and went with a stage hand having to come on, not once but twice, with tissues to wipe away Jimmy's tears. Nobody will ever live up to his delightfully twisted wit. The perfect chaotic foil to Jon Richardson's straight man, and a crucial acerbic voice that made Cats Does Countdown such a hit--it could have so easily been a shallow, rude parody of a game show but Sean Lock made it something special. I'm not much of a fan of game shows or panel shows, but I will rewatch that entire series over and over until I die because those three comedians (not to mention Joe Wilkinson's inimitable streak as Rachel's sociopathic production assistant and the show's Head of I.T.). There's never been anything like it, and I don't believe that kind of lightning can be bottled. It's a miraculous confluence of comedic genius and roasting of tradition that defines British humor for me every bit as much as legends like Monty Python and Douglas Adams.

@@jaxonrox i catch the occasional clip for WILTY, and can appreciate some of the more chaotic moments (James Acaster’s insane life comes to mind). As an American, British panel shows were something of a novelty. Since I’ve been using the internet to watch TV for over 20-years, I’m more familiar with overseas programming than most. My love for Stephen Fry brought me to QI in its first season, and that exposed me to the general format and many of the usual comedians and personalities. I really enjoyed QI, but most of the other shows in that format feel a little too contrived for me. The organic chemistry between Fry and Davies is another kind of inimitable magic, and those special elements are what make this kind of entertainment worthwhile for me.

@@gnack420 In the rematch, Sean literally gives Jon everything to redeem himself. But when he realizes, that Jon just can't take the hint, he stays silent with pitiful compassion, while Jon makes a fool of himself. It is amazing. This first one is an entertaining showcase of skill, but the second one is it's own universe of comic content.

I said this a couple of years ago & I've been saying it for around 20 years now. Sean Lock is one of the funniest people to ever grace the screens & there will never be anyone like him. Todays news has absolutely devastated me as it should everyone who knows about him. The world just got a lot less funny.
