Actually, the filmmakers went to a race at Bristol Motor Speedway during the 2005 Nextel Cup Series Season. They used the speedway for inspiration. But they made the track a one mile instead of a 1/2 mile. It's also possible that some the cars competing in the 2005 season were the inspiration for the background racers. All of the racing through the first movie was inspired by NASCAR. They even had the premiere at Lowe's Motor Speedway (Charrlote) in the summer of 2006.
