honestly, this movie doesn’t get enough credit for the intro. Lightnings monologue and going back-and-forth between the race and then the announcers basically giving you the whole backstory in under five minutes was a great way to get the watcher hooked but also introduce the conflict of the movie already

Fun fact but Radiator Springs is based off a real small town called Holbrook in Arizona. Some of the buildings such as the Cozy Cone Motel are based off teepees you can stay in like a hotel stay. The restaurant there called Joe and Aggie's has Cars memorabilia with John Lasseter's autograph thanking the town for the inspiration of Cars. It's pretty neat to see on visits.

25:00 Red was supposed to talk. He was meant to be voiced by Joe Ranft, who sadly died in 2005 in a car accident (Which is a sad irony). Ranft has already voiced other characters like: Lenny the binoculars from Toy Story, Heimlich the caterpillar from Bug's Life or Wheezy the penguin from Toy Story 2, and a minor character in Monsters Inc. has Ranft's name even if he has no voice lines.

Recently I was trying to to convince some friends who hadn’t seen the movie since they little to give it a rewatch, even pointed out how it portrays the economic ruin many towns fell into after the construction of the interstate highways, something that actually happened. They still can’t see past the talking vehicles in Cars 1 and 3, and for some reason wouldn’t stop talking about Cars 2

The King is modeled on Richard Petty, on a real NASCAR race car based on the Superbird. Rules were tightened promptly to make it illegal due to the tall spoiler. Dale Earnhardt Jr was one of the hottest drivers at the time, and son of Dale Earnhardt, true legend of the series, appears as his actual car at the time. The two announcers were two of the trio that did real NASCAR TV at the time. Mario Andretti, also making a cameo, raced in a number of different types of racing, including NASCAR, Indy, Formula, and a slew of others. Michael Shumacher drove primarily in Europe on the Formula One (F1) circuit, winning the driver's championship seven times. At the time this was made, he was racing for Ferrari on the F1 circuit.

My dad is a huge car guy. This is one of the few movies that he took me by himself to go see in theaters because he was so excited for it. Pixar really embedded a lot of real car history and its people into this. The second movie in the trilogy is meh to me because it deviates from what this one set up, in my opinion. The third one gets back to the roots of racing and is a beautiful end to this story.

Fun fact: Originally Pitterbilt was going to be the truck that drove Lightning around but since John Ratzenberger's dad drove a Mack truck, they changed it into Mack. The Pitterbilt (voiced by late story board man and co-director Joe Ranft who also voices Red the Firetruck and the scratch voice for Mater, in fact Ranft died in a car crash a year before this movie's release hence why it was dedicated to him) scene is a nod to this to the change.

29:55 Probably a little nod/easter egg that isn't as noticeable for most of us but, Luigi (tire shop owner) is a Fiat 500 car. The yellow Fiat 500 car is a reference to Lupin the Third, who's an anime protagonist that is super popular in Japan. Hayao Miyazaki's first animated feature film ever was Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro which eventually kickstarted to the creation and all of the other movies/films produced by Studio Ghibli. The car that Lupin showcases and drives in the anime is in fact an iconic yellow Fiat 500. John Lasseter and Hayao Miyazaki have been friends for a long time so a lot of Disney/Pixar films have a small or tiny subtle reference to the Studio Ghibli films. Another example being Toy Story 3 where Bonnie owns a Totorro plushie toy in her room.

I listened to Brad Paisley all the time growing up, he was my favorite country artist, and he has so many good songs, so when I heard him singing Find Yourself for the first time in the end credits of Cars as a kid I was so happy! And then in Cars 2 he sang Collision of Worlds (with Robbie Williams) and Nobody's Fool (solo), so I was very happy once again! And he doesn't sing a song in Cars 3 but he shows off his awesome guitar skills with an instrumental track that plays during the demolition derby scene, which is a pretty good track!

I just have to say that I keep a couple of CDs in my car containing the soundtracks of all three of these movies. I have terrible driving anxiety, and these movies have always painted the road in such a friendly and inviting light. It honestly helps!! 💖 I said it before, but this is a trilogy that truly means a lot to me. I’ll admit that the second one has some story issues, but I still own and watch it because it has some AMAZING world-building. And the third made me actually tear up which a film has rarely done and has some surprisingly adult -relevant themes for a world full of talking cars.

It took me years after watching this movie, but once I learned that I could get to some of the Route 66 museums in my state, my gawd I went. The whole she-bang ... used my McDs money to stay in hotels, get gas and just ...drive with the radio blasting. The sheriff's voice actor actually held tours ...I forget out of what museum, but I missed going... and one of the diners along the route burned down before I could visit. But overall, ... a great ride. So yeah... Cars and Planes ... live pretty rent free in a safe little spot in my heart. Ah heck I'm crying again.

YES FINALLY YOURE REACTING TO MY FAVORITE MOVIE!! I have an insane obsession with this film franchise. It makes me cry too! Especially the third one. This film also just celebrated its 15th Anniversary! Lightning's real name is Montgomery. And most the cars like King and Doc are real cars by real NASCAR drivers. Petty voiced his own car, King. Doc Hudson is also a 51 Hudson Hornet. The mountains are based off of Cadillac Ranch (in the movie its called "Range"). My dad had a gas station go out of business because of the interstate. His business was on Route 66. There are two Planes movies but they are not by Pixar. Cars 2 actually has worse animation but I hope you enjoy it anyways! Also, McQueen is named after Glen McQueen (Pixar producer who passed before Finding Nemo, in the credits of that movie) now watch Spirit (2002)

Originally Paul Newman was consindered to voice Woody while Jim Carrey was going to do Buzz Lightyear for a Old Hollywood vs New Hollywood theme in Toy Story, but the budget wouldn't allow it. Fortunately Tom Hanks and Tim Allen became celebs during the production so Pixar was lucky snag in celebs in their first movie.

The part where he races to get in front of the train before it crosses. Is actually an easter egg from the fast and the furious movie. When dom and brian o'Connor drag race and go across some train tracks as a train is coming. Barely making it across the tracks just before the train. Best redemption arc ever.

I like all the references at the end I think if I’m right this movie was made specifically to honor one of there older employees that had worked on those earlier Pixar films specifically and had died at the time and he loved cars apparently

Ah, Cars. One of my favorite movies as a kid. Y'know, it's no Wall-E, but it's honestly pretty underrated. The first movie was great, the second was alright, and while I never did get around to checking out the third movie or the Planes spinoff, I don't think they're enough to write off the whole franchise even if they are as terrible as some people say.
