I have a 2021 Ranger and a 2022 Hilux all we ever do when driving the Hilux is talk about how much better the ranger is, and that is with the old model Ranger. The Toyota is drinking 11.7 ltrs on the long term average compared to the ranger at 10.1 so the fuel efficiency difference is massive. Hilux has to be the most over rated vehicle on the road.

In our family, we have both. However, the Hilux does handle the dirt better but the Ford is better on the long open roads for comfort. Parts do, Toyota are more expensive than the Ford, however, less places to find Ford parts and many more place stock all the Toyota parts...

I think money for value the ford has better tech and may be more refined but remember you pay for reliability on the Hilux which the Ford will never have. The BI turbo is also a but warring as the older Ford Rangers 2.2 6 speeds had huge problems with a failing turbo. The older Ford developed rattles and suffered more problems over years. Then there is factor of trade in value which the Toyota will guarantee your money back once you trade it in. Ford looses value much faster and I personally think the quality hasn`t improved although the they invested a lot in the tech of the vehicle.

Watch out for transmission issues and oil pump issues in the ranger. Mitsubishi is an absolute tank. Had an l200 for 150 000kms half of them were towing a trailer on bad roads too. Had a Mitsubishi colt too, v6 club cab and did 100 000kms on it on bad roads with heavy payloads too. Sold them when we stopped that job line. The triton was the 3.2 DI-D 4x4 double cab top spec. What a machine, comfortable, reliable, stable at up to 160km/h cruising. Never had a hiccup on any of them. All we ever changed was oil once every 10 000kms. Now running a 2.4 4x2 double cab gd6 Hilux w/a manual transmission. Got 120 000kms on it and 50 000 kms have been to the mines and on bad Pot holed roads and Off-road into the pits. It's a machine, we still have it and have never had an issue on it and man has it been thrashed. Only ever changed oil at the dealership. So let me tell you this, the Japanese cars (Specifically Mitsubishi, Toyota, Isuzu, In order of reliability respectively) are the best you can buy. My buddy's uncle has a 3.2 ranger with the automatic that he got new and it's been sitting with a dead gearbox for almost a year now at Ford. Transmission is an absolute wreck and oil filter, pump and head gasket are bugging too. We only rock Japanese cars man and they prove them test of time. My dad's friend has an Isuzu that's got 600 000 kms, original engine and gearbox. It lived it's whole life on the farm too. Scrap Ford off your book if you know what's good for you. Consider only Mitsubishi, Toyota and Isuzu. You won't regret it!

Ranger is a car made for urban roads. Hilux is a truck that has more payload and pulling power. It’s made for what picks are intended work. Particulary if it’s has the 4 cylinder diesel. It’s a basic truck with beastly pulling power for its class. No comfort all truck! Like they use to make them. I’d take one in a heartbeat you can actually get a Hilux brand new in Mexico for 23,000-26,000 dollars what did you pay for your ranger that was built and designed off the Taurus chassis, when they designed the truck err car. The Hulu’s is number one in its class in payload, towing and it’s not close. And it’s a torquey little truck. You won’t be disappointed with the trip over the border Particulary with add features. Seriously what other small truck has a add on turret mount as a potential option for the farmer who wants to get rid of Varmints and unwanted suitors for thier daughters. 🤪😏 thier options are only limited by your imagination 😆🤣

Although I see that ford ranger XLT has more advance features than Hylux, I still believe that hylux is more easy going and reliable than ford. I've experienced latest ford ranger 2022 models having problems with the system early and still a hylux 2015 or latest model is still going strong. Anyway, thanks for the latest updates on both model👍

Talking about Technology reviews, did you compare the handsfree call quality between the two? Because I've heard terrible things about the call quality for people on the other end.

The new Rangers Frame is much weaker than the frame of the old one, we will see in about 5 years how weak. And it have a rust problem..

Yes, in a working ute, the more gadgets and doodads are important and you don't want to break a nail using a nasty manual hand brake. Who needs reliability? Did he say the Ranger is 150 kgs heavier than the Hilux? Ranger must be getting fat like an obese Yank to go with those Yank looks. Last model looked good, this one is a fat toss fest but it will appeal to some. You want a ute to do the hard work, get a Hilux. With a Ford Ranger, the tools are all in the cab.😆

Yeah i like the rough and tough of the hilux. Ranger is for old retired people

@@Kdjoao Oh good on you mate. I just turned sixty and I'm semi retired, so are you telling me I have to get rid of my 09 Hilux? Should I have ordered a beige Toyota Avalon instead of a new Subaru BRZ?😉

What happens when your dog treads on the handbrake button when you leave the engine running to open a gate? After having two vehicles with electric handbrakes that were very unpredictable, I just wish manufacturers would give us the option of a manual one.

I just bought the sr5 dual cab. Put my old canopy on it from my old car, a dual cab bt50, and wow is the fuel economy on the hilux beyond atrocious, my bt 50, with the same weight was getting 300km per tank more then the hilux. I'm keeping this for maybe a year or 2 then getting rid of it. Of fuel economy is important to you, do not buy one.

Ford is the leader in pickups for a reason. You will be happy with one. I've driven them since 1988, that first one went 334,000 miles in 10 years. It ran and looked good enough at that point that someone at a stop light sitting beside me offered to buy it. A very good offer, in fact. My current one has over 220,000 miles, I'm retired and drive it less because I switched to Focus as my daily driver, and that old truck has been even better than the first one was.

Why the premium models . There actually are mid level models at least 10,000$ cheaper

You forgot how the ranger has issues with over heating transmissions, computer issues, peeling bed liner, vibrations through the tail shaft and has been reported by channel 9 with customers buying the vehicle and they haven’t lasted more than a few weeks before having to have a complete vehicle exchange due to the rangers breaking system locking on by itself at 80 kms per hour, then you forgot how Toyota have increased prices in what is a nothing special model, seeing the hilux hit the $80 grand mark but no improvements. Over all Australians are robbed blind on every brand in the country when it comes to full and mid size pick ups.

Ford is the world leader in pickups, and it shows. Reliability and dependability is word-of-mouth opinion of Toyota owners, but real quality and TGW data proves Ford better at those attributes than Toyota. That's why Ford remains in the leadership seat. Braking durability is my only complaint with Ford. Drum brakes are better in service long-term, but Ford has been reducing their use in each new redesign. Rotors are too thin, warp easily, and cannot usually be turned to increase useful life and eliminate warping. You have to buy expensive new discs on every brake job. Ford needs to stop prioritizing weight savings over durability in brake systems. Maybe you test guys on your measured tests think eliminating drums are improvement, but I don't find disc brakes any better in stopping power and far worse in brake feel in real world driving, factoring in the vibration caused by warping. Could use a bit more chrome highlights on the Ford. All that blackout and dull plastic everywhere is lackluster. Otherwise, I'm very much more impressed by the new Ford than I am the Toyota. Thanks for the review.

This is not fair comparison. Ranger XLT has lower engine HP and Torque. While Hilux has 2.8 Liter G1 Engine and has 200Hp... duh!
