You seem to have completely missed the point of a PHEVs compared to HEV, the Seal's 80km EV only range means people like me with solar panels can charge their car to go to work and never have to refuel their tank. This saves on average $3k per year or $30k over 10 years and better for the planet.

I did exactly that 9 days ago, after considering the Sportage , outlander and Rav 4 , in the end it was not even a contest for me, I got the Premium Sealion 6 and couldn't be happier, I live in the inner west in Sydney, we go out once a fortnight out of Sydney, our Solar generates 100+ kw a day + 60 kw of battery storage, so for us plugging the car daily is so easy, Did not get a full EV, because we have a young family that on long trips I did not want to subject them to waits and charger availability with a fully EV car.

BYD DMI is quite different from other systems. In DMI, the gasoline engine mainly works as a generator, creating electricity to charge the battery or power the electric motor. In a regular hybrid, the engine usually drives the wheels directly, with the electric motor helping out during acceleration or at low speeds. Another lesser-known feature of BYD DMI is that it can use gasoline to generate power for VTL (Vehicle to Load). It’s like having a portable gasoline generator for camping or as a backup power source for your home, which is amazing!

Hilarious ... so the Kia wins cos it has ''aussie tuned' suspension (there's so much jingoism in this from these reviewers) and you don't have to plug it in! So after about 2kms its noisy engine always kicks in costing you dollars 'cos the engine is cold and inefficient on short urban trips. I have the lower spec Dynamic, which is about the same price as this Kia, (but still offers more features). In city driving it does 90kms easy on pure EV, and has returned 5.1l/100 on highway trips, so thats a range of over 1,200kms. I charge the car about every 3rd night , a process that takes about a minute - and a full charge costs me about $3.50 for 90kms. The BYD is a comfortable drive and extremely quiet, as is the engine when it eventually comes on when you leave the city on long trips. BYD are going to do very well.

Sealion 6 smashes it out of the park. You can basically drive it for free if you have solar for your daily commute. So you are immune to petrol prices, yet you are also protected from range anxiety. Bit of an apples to oranges comparison. The only negative about BYD is stupidly complex warranty. Whoever came up with that idea needs to do a 3 year Marketing course, because it's a serious drawback, especially when BYD cars are well made and the LFP Blade batteries last basically for ever.

I took the Sealion for a test drive today and was absolutely blown away. After that, I tried the Tesla Model Y, but honestly, it felt a bit underwhelming. At 6'1" and a larger guy, I found the Sealion to be much more comfortable, especially with good headroom in the back-unlike the Tesla Model Y, where my head was hitting the roof. I was able to adjust my driving seat all the way back, leaving plenty of room for someone to sit behind me. I’m really impressed! I also tested the Camry, which was nice, but it just didn’t compare to the Sealion. Plus, I’m not too fussy about not having a spare tyre; I hardly drive, mainly in urban areas, and I always change my tyres when they’re nearing their expiration. I’ve never had any issues in the last 20 years. I'm definitely tempted!

The BYD uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4). Not Lithium Ion (Li-ion). LiFePO4 shits all over Li-ion.
@DavidLivingstone2 күн бұрын
This is really useful information for me. It seems that none of the KZbin presenters pay much attention to the drive-train & battery technology, and the terms Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid don't adequately indicate how they compare. I have no interest in the Toyota concept of a complex integrated ICE/Electric with a tiny NiMH battery. A Range extender concept such as the Chevrolet/Holden Volt, or the Nissan Electric Transmission needs different terminology to discriminate. The lack of understanding of the chemical difference between "Iron" and "Ion" is very disappointing. I'd buy a range-extender if there was a suitable offering, but it looks like it'll be a straight EV.

In China, the world's largest auto market, South Korean automakers have sold most of their production lines as their share of the market has fallen rapidly to 1 percent from a peak of 8 percent, as they have been unable to compete with a host of Chinese automakers led by BYD. Due to the lack of competitiveness, it is estimated that Korean cars will soon be forced to completely withdraw from the Chinese market, and the same situation will soon happen in other countries.

I think this company is just trying to sell whatever left of Sportage commitment they agreed to with Kia 😂, just my two cents after watching this review. As someone has said, I think it’s two different cars, I have had my SL6 for the past 2 weeks now and loving it, took the delivery in Hobart, and have driven it from Hobart to Launceston, the EV mode setup to 75% gave me about 80km before the HEV kicked in. And by the time I arrived in Lonnie, the HEV was about 112KM and EV was about 87km. I noticed it charged during down hill and brakes and gave me additional 7-8km. And the reason I chose this car was of the limited charging stations across Australia if one is to go for long distance, which I’m planning to do.

The parts (screen wipers, brake pads and filter) covered by 6 months warranty of Sea lion 6 are for the commercial usage which travels over 30,000 per year, such as taxi or Uber. For normal usage, who ever worries about these parts can break in 6 months. Or in other words, these parts will last a many times longer than 6 months for normal driving.
