Thanks for a good test. I preferred the Navara on my purchase and is very happy with my choice. Yes, the infotainment system really can do with a massive improvement and the ride is a bit more choppy on tar and the engine is noisy. For me the deciding factors were 1= Reliability, 2= ranking on theft and high jacking list. Fact is with Ford’s reputation and known incidents were Ford Rangers’s owners had problems and Ford that would do anything in their power to slide the blame to the owner in staid to man up and assist their client, I wouldn’t risk buying a Ford. On the highjack and theft list, Ford Ranger is no.1 with Toyota Hi-lux 2nd. Thanks for a good program and an excellent review.

I’m in the USA market. I am on my second Nissan Frontier here and I been happy with the truck. My first I sold with 230,000 miles and was still running good. The buyer was happy.My second one it’s 2017 with the 4.0 V6 and it has a screaming engine. I wish we had diesel options here. Navarra for me.

I have a 2016 NP300 Navara with the YD25DDTi engine, after three years, the van is flawless and still works like new, and it is really quicker than the big 3.2l Ford, I get between 850-900kms on a tank of diesel but I can get 1000plus kilometers if I go for very long drives. I think I’ll stick with the Nissan.

Ciro. Dont forget alot of people use the vehicle's for overlanding and at times do load up to 500 kg on the back. Dont forget about Alu Canopies and drawers, water tanks and long range fuel tanks. Others even use it on farms and construction sights. Contrary to popular believe they not all only mall crawlers. So thank you for loading 500 kg on the back and thanks for a great review. Im sure alot of us really appreciate it.

All depends on what circles you find yourself in and how much research you willing to do I guess. So lets agree to disagree on this part of your statement.With regards to your "[t]op spec", its important to note that here in RSA the underpinnings of the vehicles are still the same its only the interior that's different to give you the "[t]op spec". So even if you want to take the "[l]ow spec" this video will still be relevant to you.

I struggled with the same comparison a couple of years back before I bought the NP300. The wildtrack has better water fording 800mm vs 450mm, more 12v sockets 4 vs 3 and slightly more ground clearance 230mm vs 220mm. Those are easy enough to fix with aftermarket accessories. However the NP300 has better turning radius 12.4m vs 12.7m, better fuel economy, was 16K USD cheaper at time at purchase, had rear air-conditioning and heating and most importantly was offered with engine variants that could run euro 4 grade fuel (YD25DDTi) especially in remote places where fuel quality can be a concern; while still offering better power to weight and torque to weight ratio than the wildtrack. The wildtracks clear advantages were easy enough to make up for with after market parts costing less than the price difference. The extra A/C, the euro4 fuel rating, and the better turning radius can not easily be made up. The wildtrack is a fantastic machine, but for me; the NP300 made more sense.

From Belgium here! I bought a Nissan Navara D23 tekna 2019, like the one in the video. Manual transmission and I love it! It's as practical and functional as it needs to be. It's very muscular by looks. I love it! The Ford Ranger looks vulgar, an imitation attempt of the bigger F150. Rangers are bought mainly by families, used for trips or pulling trailers. I've NEVER seen a Ranger used for serious duty, only Hilux and Navara are used for serious duty. Navaras here in Belgium have a favourable reputation, used by families and companies, for serious duty, pulling trailers, construction, haulage, or long trips! Excuse me if I seem biased towards the Navara, but I'm not biased, I chose it because it was near to perfect value for money. Ford has obnoxiously expensive kit and options, and here in Belgium and most non-anglophone countries, Ford has very bad customer service.

Nissan navara - very reliable comfort + more power on a little engine torque. Manual or automatic Ford Ranger - revs to loud which equals to more fuel consumption less torque. Manual gearbox doesn't last. So automatic is more relevant. Nissan navara is the winner on road or off road.

Seems to me like you were looking for any Navara flaws to give it to the ranger. That thing is 300-400 kilos more, even the latest 2.0 biturbo has less power to mass ratio than navara. The Navara is more comfy over long rides, especially in the back where leaf springs can be felt more. Navara has a better cut. The things you pointed out, in less than a week of ownership they dont count. In this category it is negligible, and quite unforgiveable to those which pretend to be SUV like when they are just make-up and eyelashes what what. That said, the ranger is good in its way, but you are biased from the start.

I have had several Nissan Navara Tekna D40 double cabs, all automatic. I now have a Ford Ranger Limited double cab with auto. Not very much to choose between them but the Ford is definitely much better on the road - I've driven sports cars that don't have such a good front end. The Nissan has a slightly bigger and therefore more powerful engine, and that is the only differences - the choice is your. I use mine in construction and forestry, plus I tow a trailer as well, the Nissan was 175hp and the Ford 155hp, the 3.2 engine in the Ford just drinks too much fuel, by the way i am in the UK.

As an american, I find this incredibly entertaining! Are you saying "Buggie" or "Buckie"? Do you guys have full size trucks like the F-150 or Titan or just these little guys? We currently have neither but I'm anxious for the 2019 Ranger! Hopefully we will get one with the 2.7l V6 TT ecoboost!
@Carscoza7 жыл бұрын
+Luke Choudek Hi there Luke! So over here we call pick-ups "bakkies", it's an Afrikaans slang term that refers to the load bed. It's so funny how you say "little guys" - these bakkies are basically the largest cars on the road here! These are the biggest bakkies on sale, currently. Ford did sell the F250 here a few years ago for a limited drive but it requires the driver to have a heavy vehicle license. The Ranger and Navara etc can be driven with a standard passenger car license. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
@lukechoudek29017 жыл бұрын
That's pretty cool, my daily driver here in Minnesota is an F-350 with 6.7L V8 Powerstroke diesel, no special license required, that is why I say "little guys". The midsize trucks are becoming more popular in the big cities here (Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit) simply because they are "small" and easier to park!
@dewrus21537 жыл бұрын
+Luke-I'm also anxious for the US Ranger. It should hopefully be rolling out close to this time next year for the 2019 model year. I had a Ranger back in the 80's and loved it. I now have a 2004 F-150 that I bought new. It's getting some years on her now and I'm considering the Ranger. I like having the full size capability of the F150 but the smaller Ranger would work as I don't do much hauling any more. Does anyone know how close the upcoming US model will be to the one featured in this video? Or, anyone know of any big differences? I would love to see Ford bring a diesel to the US market but I would choose an EB.
@josem69297 жыл бұрын
Dewy Russ i assume it would be a departure to the one seen here. Ford already has a diesel for the F-150. Im beating the will use the same unit on the Ranger. Maybe with a slight "detune". I mean it would make financial sense to scale the technology. Plus the Colorado diesel is selling well.

Yeah, every time I try to go buy shopping they are always out of the 1/2 ton water option.. I suppose I am still quite new to the larger 4 x 4 market. (2015 got my first 4 x 4) Freelander TD4....it had good reviews in Which that I read up on first and I haven't been disappointed with it but now would like to try something bigger. Initially I have to say I prefer the Navara.. Lovely scenery too.. My personal perception looking at the Ford is it was probably hastily designed and built (purely as a knee jerk reaction) on a rather drizzly cloudy Monday morning in a UK Northern town backwater by people only half awake called Nigel … who mostly had missed an urgent Opticians appointment somewhere?.... … Just so Ford could say... there we woke up and created an opposition vehicle which at first glance could appear to suggest we have done our bit to appear to remain competitive and it's only if you look closer you will realise our heads were involved a dozy 99.9% but our hearts n souls mucho less than that.. I think the American Fords look great on the hole.. very chunky.. but not this version.. The Ford just isn't as chunky imposing as the Navara. Maybe it's a female version and just slightly less big boned? If you want to really understand what I mean by that then look at a photo of a male and female Boxer dog sat next to each other.. The female is taking up slightly less room than the chunkier male... Or like the Hobbits at the Inn of the Prancing Pony where three of the four have half pint tankards and one ends up with a pint tankard.. it's like right that will suit me a lot better..

As an American who is moving to Kenya later this year and having my house built very far into the African bush, these are the 2 trucks I'm looking into. I only wish I could bring my 2016 F150 from the USA to there but Kenya regulations won't allow a LHD vehicle. Thank you for doing this comparison.

Hi there, very interesting! If you are willing to bring the F150 to South Africa, there are a few companies here who specialise in the conversion to RHD of American pick-ups and muscle cars.
@Metalbass19796 жыл бұрын
Cars.co.za I would absolutely love to do that but found out that Kenya won't even allow converted vehicles. They have to have a vin number showing rhd from the factory. So..... I'm left to figure out how to sell this amazing truck and then downsize. We're going to be using whatever we get as a rescue vehicle, as we are building a rescue home for orphans and battered women on our land. The size and power of it were perfect for the off-road needs, rescuing and supply runs but the laws are so strict.

Dra Tempest isn’t a bt50 and a ranger pretty much the same thing?
@dratempest6106 жыл бұрын
Palpac : Not quite the same thing ,they share similar components in chassis,suspension etc and the engines are the same displacement but there bore and stroke are different, they use different size turbochargers and engine management systems. The Mazda has a stiffer suspension setup for its higher weight loading in it tub , but it handles better when pushed along on the open road due to Mazda’s suspension tune , but it’s ride is a little firmer than the ranger. They do have there differences between them.

you have to buy the right truck for where you live and what its used for. go by what its used for rather than motor reviews. All disel engines have issues, all makes have their lemons. you will either get a great one or a one that causes you constant issues. this is all manufactures period. an outback truck or truck for wild africa is going to be different to what would suit uk roads and the 5 minutes you may be off road. if your nit bothered what it does just buy the one you like the look of.

Thank you for sharing this. I am actually myself in the process where I have difficulties to choose between the Navara and the Ranger. The Navara I am looking at is a Trek-1 and currently there is a drive on these that sets it way under the Ford when it comes to price.. I am not to happy about the infotayment system you showed but I wonder, did you have it in RDS mode. I noted the TA or PY button was off - perhaps this is why you did not get the station names displayed. Another thing is the last 20 years of Ford Quality reputation. In my country (Sweden) Ford has a known reputation not living up so well to quality. They nearly destroyed the repuation of Volvo for the years they owned it. Examples is to replace important wear stuff with cheap plastic like the wheel bearings. Normally you would replace wheel bearings on a car about every 200 000 ±30000 Km. In Sweden many Fords as well as Volvos made during the Ford era you have to replace them already at 80 000 Km. So, Thank you for your test - I am still not sure what to buy but you got me thinking. br Magnus

FORD= Fix Or Repair Daily. Reliability issues hounding the company through the years. Even Henry Ford himself admitted there's something wrong with the brand itself. And its encircled bigtime!

FORD WIN THE LEADER THE MIGHTY CHAMPION

For price and value of the money NISSAN is for me: -Smaller engine with more power ratio vs Ford, more fuel efficient, etc. -Coil suspension may not be coping well with loads but you don't load much everytime you drive. Ford are overpriced and you'll get more headaches 6-8 years after.

If your using a pickup for a hard workhorse buy a ranger... But if your using more for comfort buy a Navara...
@romantkachuk1686 жыл бұрын
this new ranger is paper-made junk, take a look at the frame/suspension and you'll never consider it to buy

3.2 vs 2.3 liter is not comparable. Navara's fuel consumption and taxes are better. 2.2 ranger vs 2.3 navara competition could be fairer.
