I never used to like the G Wagon because in Namibia it’s just a status symbol, however after watching the video you did on the G Wagon, I now understand why it deserves that price tag. That’s a beautiful and well built car.

Just few days ago I finaly realized what is wrong with the new G and why the old W643 is sooo much cooler. The front end - the rounded edges of the head light. All the other angles it is pretty much the same as before, but the front at least for me ruin it! Without the flat surface of the old now it looks tiny like nose. That could literally putt me off. Any way, another super cool review. Nicely done.

Love your reviews 😍 The only thing wrong with the New G , apart from the sky high price , is that they’ve taken away the front fog lights / driving lights These are so bloody handy when you live in the countryside with no street light and are great at night D’oh !!! Any chance of the Ineos Greandier 🤔

G Wagon ditched the front diff a few years ago. It's now IFS. The rest of the video is great as usual.
@unwoke1652 Жыл бұрын
Are you insane?? Go look; it still has a front diff, as it is AWD with three diff locks. IFS has nothing to do with a diff. Learn to understand cars.
@unwoke1652 Жыл бұрын
McLaren uses monocoque, Landrover employs unibody. Geländewagen isn't a SUV. It is a 4x4. Oh, all AWD vehicles have 3 diffs. It has 3 DIFF LOCKS that can be engaged while on the move. Ghe len duh va ghin. Easy.

@afriquelesud4 ай бұрын
How much (or little) do you understand about cars? To begin with, ALL AWD/permanent 4x4 cars MUST have three diffs, including the New Defender. But, the Geländewagen also has three diff-locks, and these can be engaged while in motion. The newer 70 Series Landcruisers don't even have that, afaik. The recirculation worm & ball steering dates back to the 1800's, not 1979 as you have so eloquently stated. In the Geländewagen, this was fitted since 1972, which was when this vehicle first ran after conceived by the Shah of Iran in 1969. The first prototype was made of wood. 😂🎉 The civilian version only came in 1979.

They retain the archaic external door hinges which are prone to premature wear and contamination. Absolutely plain terrible in this day and age and has zero advantage.

Steel separate chassis is so yesterday. The Model T had one. It is not as rigid as a monocoque and is prone to rust. It is only fitted to bakkies/pickups because the tub needs to be detachable so that alternative bodies, such as tippers or lifts can be fitted. The G Class is even more of a dinosaur as the Land Cruiser variants which are about to be very much modernised. The G, like the old Defender and most bakkies, is a slightly updated 1960's design that really should be given a decent funeral. It is however a great favourite with organised crime bosses and top footballers.

Hi Huw, I think everyone will agree with you... But Mercedes will sell every single one they can produce and the value of the used cars are the best in the business...Theoretically, If you can afford the first one and you trade them at 3 years/50,000km for a new one, they are cheaper to own than any other 4x4 SUV/Wagon... Now OPERATING expense (fuel) is a different matter entirely...
@hedydd23 жыл бұрын
@Uncle Pete I don't agree. Monocoques in SUV's are universally more stable and rigid than separate chassis, which are actually designed to flex somewhat. I've yet to see a mono fail in service but I've seen plenty of chassis fail. Also today's bodies are very well protected from rust and generally have a zinc primer [cold galvanising] applied where separate box section chassis only have a cheap thin black paint applied that has often started to rust even before the customer takes delivery of the new vehicle. I've yet to see a chassis that has been painted internally, yet the monocoque body is usually completely submerged in a tank of protective paint and manipulated to that the paint gets to all internal surfaces.
@unwoke1652 Жыл бұрын
Only hypercars like McLaren or Lamborghini use monocoque. You mean unibody, I suppose. Don't teach Anglophones new words, they wrongly apply them everywhere. Monocoque is a most abused term.
@hedydd2 Жыл бұрын
@@unwoke1652 According to engineering sources… "A unibody structure, it too gets its name from its structural look. Monocoque being french for ‘single shell’ or a ‘single hull’. The monocoque was first used by ships and then by aeroplanes. It took quite some time to figure out that they can be used in cars as well. A monocoque is a shell around the car made by using both chassis as the frame in a single construction. This is the most commonly used chassis right now due to the number of advantages of has over the other two chassis.” The other two being ‘tubular chassis’ and ‘Ladder frame’. ‘Unibody' is a dreadful Americanism. If you are from the USA, certainly not Canada, fair enough, go with ‘unibody’.
