Some notable inclusions platinum has that sports does not; Sun roof, interior ambient lighting, bigger front dash 12.3inch screen, 360 camera for birds eye parking, electric control to lower 3rd row seats, more premium leather seats with leather steering wheel, matrix led lighting which means you can leave you hi-beams on without blinding traffic, better stereo system, wood grain on passenger dash, option for bigger 21inch wheels if you choose. People currently getting dealer quotes of 76-81k for sports and 86-89k for platinum drive away.

Do you reckon it's worth the extra cash for those inclusions? I personally can do without a sunroof and most of those other bits, but you can also consider the Sport version with the Touring Pack (with that excellent 360-degree camera, exterior zone lighting, and towing kit)... Thanks Matt

@@carsguide hi Matt If I was looking to do more 4wd and it was just for me I’d consider the blue lightning sports for sure, but in reality my wife will be dropping kids of at school etc 90% of the time so the extra luxury features on the platinum made it worth it for us. The park assist will help the wife with the big car and we have a farm shack we often go to on weekends so the LED matrix for night country driving was the biggest plus. Both great value compared to the features on a Prado or Mux in my opinion.

@@carsguide I don't. In WA it was an extra 10k driveaway for the plat, in my opinion all those extras are some additional expensive things that can go wrong down the track, that aren't really needed. The cabin also looks really dark (although "Premium"), like the sport having the cream roof. Gone the sport with touring pack + exterior looks way better.
@Harrychambers12 жыл бұрын
@@carsguide personally I’d pay extra to have the sun roof taken out. They are useless in Australia and the equivalent of strapping a heavy passenger to the roof for weight and handling. Some of the other extras would be nice to have but for a $9k premium you can keep them. 😎

Im going from a 2014 Nissan Xtrail to the Sports Everest. So my expectations are quite high. From the reviews so far ,its looking to be a very capable vehicle for my family. And that is a daily communter with occasional off road driving for camping. Being the sports is the mid enter, it would have been nice to offer some upgrade options from the platinum trim. Eg Full width driving cluster or sunroof . Maybe with the next iteration we will see these options. Thanks for the review.

Sat in the Everest Sport at the 4wd show in Sydney and I feel like coming from the Mitsubishi to the Ford was like climbing into the space shuttle. As a sales rep who does 50k km a year, plus I like my off-roading and towing the van, the safety and comfort PLUS the beastie American look of the car makes it a real winner in my eyes. Nice evolution in design both inside and out from the last model. Ford always planned on the Everest taking on the likes of Prado and the larger SUV's. Last model was more Forturna but this new one seems to hit the Prado market. Would be nice for Ford to offer second fuel tank option.

Here in SE Asia our range topper is the Titanium+, which is similar to the Platinum variant there, but with a few things stripped off. It's only got the 2.0L biturbo, since the V6 isn't offered in the region, no B&O stereo and no napa leather, just regular leather seats. The price is good here though, just the equivalent of $60k AUD for the top spec. Our Sport model only gets the single turbo 2.0L with 6speed, not the 10speed that the biturbo models get.
@carsguide2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info, Trevor. Yeah, the V6 seems like it certainly works for markets like Australia, though honestly, the 2.0-litre bi-turbo is enough engine! Cheers Matt
@tlevans622 жыл бұрын
@@carsguide heh Matt, I think the reason no V6 in this region is the fact that nobody tows boats or caravans and fuel costs are an issue due to lots of traffic jams in major cities. These things are mostly used for driving through floods and over roadworks, and poor road surfaces than camping, so different customer demographic. Also, the prices are better because here in the Philippines and in most SE Asian countries there's the ASEAN free trade agreement which lowers the prices from cars coming from Thailand etc. In fact, the Everest costs the same here as the Pajero Sport.

I straight up loved the look of the Sport version in Electric Blue, 184kw and 600nm of torque, coil suspension and far more comfortable than the Ranger. Also, given the cost of a canopy and a yearly registration premium, I decided against the Ranger Ute as I don’t own a business and there’s no tax breaks or incentive for the average working Aussie to buy one. I put a deposit down in early June but probably won’t get a test drive until early October. Maybe delivery in the first quarter of 2023 but not holding my breath!

The second and third row seats look unchanged from the current Everest in terms of dimensions and folding options. How did Ford widen the interior? Was it by deleting the rear air-con unit that previously provided heating and cooling which freed up more space behind the trim? Does the subwoofer still sit behind the boot trim on the LH side? Pity they didn't widen the 2nd row seat as you mentioned about rolling off the edges against the door is a bit of an issue now. And why does the Everest have to get lumped with other lesser ute based wagons for a comparison. Surely this trumps a Prado with spec, driveability and off road capabilities now? Looks similar size to an LC300.

I am sure surprised that people say a Prado is better. I had a 150 Prado Kakadu, and it was horrible. Gutless is the main word. Its levelling rear suspension was hopeless too. I bought the Kakadu because the GXL seats were the most uncomfortable seat I had ever sat on. I still have my 1997 petrol V6 3400 Prado, which I bought new. It cost me $55,000 on the road, with a tow bar and alloy bull bar added, and air conditioning (only standard on the Grande) and a couple of other extras. Let's consider the price again - my 1997 90 series GXL V6 petrol Prado on the road, cost me $55,000 in 1997. So today, 80k seems good value to me. We forget that vehicles cost less now (but unfortunately, they have more obsolescence built into them). I had the 90 series raised in the mid 2000's, and put in better coils and shocks which vastly improved its ride and its balance when cornering. But the 90 series has always been lovely to drive - its quiet but not remote from the road. Its a but faster too than a diesel Prado is today. I replaced the Prado 150 series with a Land Rover HSE 2014 in that year ... I have towed a 2.5 tonne A.O.R. brand off road Matrix van all over, and will clock 110k soon. The Land Rover has been outstanding. Its user friendly, you can do things with all the instruments as you drive, and the air suspension makes it awesome, on and off road, and for towing. Its motor is delicious - and is much the same as the this Everest's. Its quiet too - and that is reflected by this road test. Low noise is due to the special ex race tech very high quality iron used in the motor's block. Toyota uses standard quality iron in comparison. My next tow vehicle looked to be a Land Rover Defender - but I am unsure about that vehicle 3 litres diesel, or a LR 300 series. But this Everest is would do the job. Another alternative though would be a Prado with the 300's 3.3 litre diesel V6. And it would need to have good front seats.

Gday, I’m on my second 150 Prado Kakadu now (horizon edition this time) and the wife just ordered an Everest sport for early 2024 delivery. I feel the Toyota reliability is coming into question and that Toyota are actually falling behind rapidly. I don’t think Toyota are the Toyota we all think they are (that of the 90s,00s etc). So ev sport here we come and see what happens. 5 year warranty helps the decision (2020 Kakadu Will almost be up when we change over). But mainly l, you’re dead right - the 150s absolutely gutless.

A bit of touring, camping, off-road, you know the stuff where you might get a puncture. All the gear available soon for the new model as there is a "Strategic Collaboration between Ford and ARB" (from the ARB website) including rear modular draw systems and slide kitchens. Looks great, especially if you happen to tow a trailer with a couple of dirt bikes and camp out or are just into touring type fitouts. Then I started to think about the spare tyre, well, really not the spare itself, but how do I get at it - underslung I assume like the last model? Winding mechanism and jack etc, hmmm - under the rear floor like the last model? But if so, I've got a kitchen and full drawers in there and I really don't want to dismantle that to get at the winding mechanism. Jack etc, I can get out beforehand, but please, please tell me the new Everest as part of it's "commonality with the Ranger" has an external winding port for the underslung spare. Surely so, please.

The wildtrak v6 is still better value for me, if I had to select the wagon I think the sport v6 as for the competitors none of them can tow enough in that I mean the pay load is too small and because the Everest can tow 3500kg and a decent pay load there is a bigger margin to use. I do not tow more than 3000kg ever but this now leaves me space to move. As an example the MUX cannot really tow 3500kg unless it has 10litres of fuel and my 5 year old grandson is driving.
