Carson's Fibular Hemimelia Story | Dr. Dror Paley

Carson was born with a condition in his right leg called fibular hemimelia with a fused ankle and limited range of motion. Dr. Paley performed surgeries, beginning at infancy, to reconstruct his fibular hemimelia leg. Carson shares how he lives life fully with two healthy legs that are the same length. He plays competitve travel hockey along with other sports.

I am also living with FH. My grandparents were scared of me living as an amputee and the thought of having to undergo so many surgeries for limb lengthening was daunting. I had the third option that involved stunting the growth of my left leg (“the good leg, as my grandparents would say,”) so the right one would catch up. Unfortunately, that was successful and I live with plenty of chronic symptoms now as an adult like arthritis, tendinitis, scoliosis, chronic pain back, leg, hip pain and inflammation…mostly to my right (fused) ankle. I look back and wondered if I or my grandparents made different choices, would my life be different today? Im so happy to see this worked for you. Hugs from a fellow FH warrior from Brooklyn, NY❤️
