Excellent visual on Collection! 😉 As someone with brain damage, your funny effective visual really helped. Brought to rememberance a picture in my mind of something I needed - thanks My Grandfather would always tell me to make sure I had my horse “gathered up down and in under me” - the adjectives meant to instill the point - to do this for greater agility and speed, safety of the rider and the horse, and the stock It’s like being squared up in weight distribution - like martial arts. One can make the best movements from that core Thanks for making us laugh while teaching us Mr. James! 🐎

I appreciate the way you explain things!!! I'm curious does this apply to gaited horses? He's a rescue and super heavy on the front end. I think he's this way because of how he was ridden previously and I'm trying to help him use his rear end more but he's also buddy sour though not so much now. I need to help him before I pony my bucking stock rescue named Huckleberry!!!

probably the second best explanation I have seen. He misses on a couple of points.. 1) collection is not a shifting of weight to the back feet. If that was true then an rearing horse would be considered to be "collected" Collection is actually the horse assembling their muscles to execute the desired motion in balance and softly at the desired speed for the desired time. It is actually more the horse moving it hind feet more towards it heart line (balance point). This requires first that the horse's conditioning has been done properly, ie it must be able to move without stiffness, a supple topline and a core of iron. without that pre conditioning the horse is being asked to something that it is not physically capable of except for very short time frames... ie a stride so. This is probably the most overlooked apsect of on this subject. Missing the foundation aspects. Also he explains that to achive the increased balance you start with blocking the front...this IMO ..totally incorrect and leads to a downward sprial. It is far better achieved..after the correct conditioning to enable the horse to do it ...is to ask for the horse to engage its core from seat..cued with a very lower leg. this asks the horse to 1: supple the top end , 2 engage core, 3: this then allows the horse to reach further under neath with the rear feet.. If you try to "block the front with bit pressure..the first thing the horse will always respond with is stiffness...which defeats the goal .

If Carson would like he can always contact me to learn how to correctly implement a better and more correct explanation on what "collection": is and how to achieve it.

You described the strength that is needed to achieve collection for a length of time, but not what it actually is. You can always contact the United States Dressage Federation because I was just relaying this information from them, but if you feel you know more than the USDF, then there is probably no need.

Horse trainers talk way too damn much they don't understand humans at all. when you are trying to teach a human and you give them the info they need to learn and then talk about 5 other things they just forgot the info they needed to learn. For me, a good clinician will only tell you then show you what to do and quick why and leave it. All this talking is not helping no one.
