please mam can u explain what the difference is between the cartagena convention and cartagena protocol on biosafety, why are the names similar?

Cartagena convention is a regional legal agreement for protection and development of the marine environment of Caribbean Sea, which is comprised of other protocols. Cartagena protocol on biosafety is extension of Convention on biological diversity which focuses on biosafety of genetically modified organisms and living modified organisms

Generally, the name of place where meeting was conducted becomes associated with the protocol or convention. Cartagena convention was adopted in Cartagena, Columbia on 24th March 1983, thus the name Cartagena Convention. And Cartagena protocol to biosafety was scheduled for 1999 in Cartagena, Columbia. But later on the location was changed to Montreal in Quebec, 2000.
