Mel in Melbourne I have heard that your problem with the bracelet is because you wear it with another bracelet. Two bracelets banging each other over the time can cause this problem.

Mel in Melbourne I have three of them. All of them have the new screw system. The first two I bought were perfect. No problems. The last one has been a nightmare. Falls off all the time. Thankfully I’ve found it each time. I never take them off. They replaced it. Had a great experience at Cartier every time. I’ve heard of locktite, I’m the same. I don’t want to put any substance like that on my bracelets.

It's ridiculous isn't , but people buy into it. I've got one done in 14k gold, from a regular jeweller near where i live, it's "cartier inspired" , very similar design but the closing mechanism is different, and i prefer that , as it's impossible to lose it. It's was a thousand... but hey, it's gold and you pay for it. In the case of cartier you pay for the name , mainly.

Loctite as mentioned by someone else is a threadlocker, not superglue, there are different strengths, when I first started as a Mechanical Engineer at my current job, we used Loctite on very fine screws for our high precision instruments, and it helped preventing the fine screws loosening over time due to vibration, and you can still remove the screws without any damage to anything. I have no issues using it on my love bracelet. Love your very informative videos, Thank you Mel!

I’m wearing the vintage love bracelet, handed down from my grandma and then my mother. So it’s a good 40 something year old bracelet. Worn it for 10 years, only took it off a couple of times within that period. Never had any problem with the screws, there’s even one time i couldnt take it off haha! So my conclusion is, the vintage screw system might be more annoying but it’s much more secure. Especially if you dont take it off often, won’t have to worry about losing the screws. Love your review!

@elizabethm25845 жыл бұрын
I can assure you that no one at Cartier told her to put Super Glue on her bracelet. Loctite is a threadlocker, which is a liquid that expands to fill in the spaces between the screw and the “bolt” part of the bracelet. Loctite 222, the jeweler’s strength, is perfectly safe to use on a Love bracelet. It will not damage or discolor the gold. If you put a screw in anything that is not staying still, the screw needs to either have grease or Loctite put on it to keep the screw in place without it seizing up.

Hi, everyone, my tradie husband tells me that loctite is definitely NOT superglue. It is a compound that dries in the absence of oxygen, so if you put a drop on the thread of the screw and do it up, the air is squeezed out and the compound dries and hardens. In Australia, it comes in blue and red. Blue is semi-permanent and red is permanent. The only way to undo a screw with red loctite is to heat it up and really force the screw until it undoes. In his opinion, you wouldn't want to apply the blue one either. It is "reversible" but not intended to be done up and undone repeatedly. You still have to force the screwdriver to crack the seal, which could easily scratch the top of the screw. Also, it leaves dried residue on the thread and this would have to be scraped off each time so that you could apply the new loctite. It's not designed to be used on a part that frequently gets removed. Particularly not a precious object!

Hi Mel, I have had the love bracelet for about 9 years, and it has not dropped off, thankfully. I just heard about the “glue” a few days ago. And the 2 friends I was with at that time, both had theirs “glued”. So I guess it is not that uncommon. If I may add another tip to minimise scratches, stick a small piece of scotch tape over the screw driver. It helps prevent accidentally scratching the bracelet when putting it on or removing it.

Loctite is it glue. This is a thicker version a super glue and holds a lot stronger. It's usually a clear gel formula. Most of the time you use it for fixing things like if you've got a broken vase or cup handle that broke off. You use that to fix the piece or pieces that are broken. You could put Loctite on the bracelet but then you'd never be able to get the thing off and it's not worth it. Especially if you have doctor's appointments are certain things to where you can't wear any jewelry and you have to take it off you won't be able to

Sorry you had this issue. Nothing worse than having an expensive piece of jewelry that you have to worry about wearing. The stress of constantly having to check and see if it’s on makes it not worth wearing . The locktite solution does seems extreme for a fine piece of jewelry . Hope your new one is worry free . Blessings and Peace 🙏🏻
@teddythetinyterrier5 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had issues with my love screws but have heard of this problem before. It could be a faulty screw or it could be bc you wear the love next to your other bangle. A heavy bangle that knocks into the love will unwind the screws. This is why people with multiple loves use loctite. There are different kinds of loctite. The one Cartier uses is the least adhesive so you don’t have to worry about it damaging the bracelet. It’s regularly used by jewelers. It hasn’t been long since you’ve had your love but my issue is that it gets stuck around my arm at night and during the day at work. I am certain it is contributing to a carpel tunnel like situation and I know I’m not the only one who has felt this way. In hind sight I don’t think this bangle is for me. It’s beautiful but too many issues come with it. Also if you were ever to break or sprain your arm and didn’t have the screw it’d be a nightmare!

Mine has been sitting in the box for the last 7 months or so now...I am so annoyed that I cannot wear it because it has come off twice now. Once at work and once at home when I just put it on. I literally thought that I had a dud and have taken it back twice now. I am so sad that this have happened and I have only had it for 2yrs. I might return and ask for a new one because this is ridiculous...I am not going to use a glue on my bracelet and they didn't tell me about a "lock tight". Unlike you Mel, I do have regret and I wouldn't actually buy it again. Another thing that annoys me is the amount of scratches mine have...but then again I bought a white one...so that's on me. On the other hand, I love my love ring and my trinity ring. My husband's lost his trinity ring...went back to Cartier to buy a new one and they have given it to us on a discounted price. I must say that their customer service is one of the best one.

I own 2 with the newer screws. I also had the same issue. They replaced the screw and issues continued so they replaced the bracelets. Since then, I've had no issue at all and have been wearing them for 2 yrs continuously. You can't take the bracelet off, not once a week, once a month, or sporadically because if you do, the screws will loosen. They bracelet is not meant to be taken off. Unfortunate, that means you have to be ok with wearing it all the time. I love bracelets, so when I want to wear different bracelets based on my outfits, I wear it on my opposite wrists that I wear the love bracelets. Unfortunately, that's the only options otherwise be prepared for issues...or purchase the new thin ones instead since it's meant to be removed. Hope that helps! I have the slim version of the love bracelet and I’ve had it on for almost a year and it’s never fallen off or had a problem. The slim version has the screw on one side only, the other side is a hinge, so putting it on and taking it off has never been an issue and is very easy. I think the slim version definitely has a more modern and easier to use design than the regular version. I have very skinny wrists (in between a 16 and 17 size for cartier) and I actually find the slim version looks more dainty and modern on my wrists too compared to the full size.

My story with the Cartier Love items and the customer service was not pleasant at all. I own several Love rings. One of them is the version with multicolored gem stones - after having my ring for 3-4 months, one gem stone fell out. No, I had no accident with it whatsoever. It just was gone. I went to the Cartier store in my city expecting them to stand behind their brand & products and repairing it for free, as I knew it was definitely NOT my fault. Result: The lady examined the ring and said, I have to pay a 4th/5th of the ring's initial price to get a new gem stone set into the ring, because, NO, they do not repair their jewelry just like that. I was FURIOUS. And decided that there's no way I would reinvest in an item I was so careful with, when clearly the gemstones were poorly set. I left the store. 3 weeks later (again, no incident/accident whatsoever on my part), another gem stone fell out. There you have it. Cartier. Poorly crafted. So, I advised all my girlfriends NOT to buy the ring / bracelet in the multicolor gemstone version. Those stones, as I learned later from different forums online, do tend to be poorly set and fall out. Grrrrrrr....

Andy well, if it’s faulty and you don’t want to put up with loosing a bracelet of 14 grand, then people should try.

This is why I never wanted the love bracelet ever, even though it's been so hyped up in the lux community, it's just way too cumbersome to use and quite high maintenance. So I got the juste un clou instead. Very happy with that, no issues so far.

My SA used it for my love bracelet. She told me that her client actually lost her bracelet. I don’t think there is anything wrong with using it. I don’t even see this glue. It lasts for a few months and you can go back to Cartier and ask them to do it for you again. It’s totally fine.

That is unfortunate. I've used Loctite on cabinet hardware that had lost its threads. I can't imagine using in on a piece of jewelry. I read about these problems on The Purse Forum. I remember a story where a woman lost hers while on a bike ride. I thought then that I'd never own one because I don't need that fuss and stress. It seems there is a trend with some luxury brands that they keep raising the prices but the quality is not what it once was. I hope your new bracelet stays secure. It is gorgeous.I have a Vintage Cartier watch. The craftsmanship is stunning.

Came across your channel yesterday and enjoyed watching you shop. I like the Alhambra Carnelian & blue VCP Bracelets. Love, love, jewelries but can’t afford the luxury of spending so much money on brand name jewelries and be afraid of losing/falling apart😱 You are truly Blessed to enjoy the luxuries of life. God Bless You and your family🙏. Thanks for sharing!

Bought my Love bangle and had loctite on from Day 1 more than a year back. No issues. Don’t even notice it and I’m with you on keeping it on full time. Mine is on 24/7. Love from Singapore! 😊

Never heard of the glue thing. My one, I didn’t even re-screw it at the beginning as you were told. It got loosened after at least half a year. Then I felt it as it clicked when it’s loosened. Now it’s just loosened every couple of months. I simple rescrew it when I felt it loosened. Nothing drama

I have two love bracelets and I use loctite in both of mine because when they would bump into one another they would knock the screws loose and I didn’t want to risk one of them falling off

I have both the Yellow and White gold bracelet, and the same thing happened to me on my first one. When I took it back to the boutique they also said that I should consider using the lock tight adhesive, but I choose not to because I didn’t want to do anything to mess up the locking mechanism. I do agree their customer service is impeccable.

I am so happy that you have such a great SA at Cartier and that you were able to get your LOVE bracelet replaced. ❤️ I think it is sooo beautiful as is the gorgeous bracelet passed down from your mother-n-law!!💖 I hope you have a wonderful weekend and happy March my sweet Mel!😍

Wow - I wouldn't want all that maintenance after paying $14,000 for a bracelet! I have been thinking about the standard Love Bracelet for a while but just have not pulled the trigger. The thought of not being able to put it on and take it off I think is what turns me off. I've been looking at the Van Cleef Perlee instead.

I have a gold and a white gold ten diamond that l purchased a year ago. I didn’t know to not over tighten the screws so l gave then an extra turn. I was mortified when l read tightening instructions but must say that nothing has moved and never had to tighten again. So in love with my bracelets that l would buy again no matter what the issues ha ha.

I have worn mine for 6 years, I never had it fallen off but I have had the really loose issue you mention. I take the screwdriver and each week, tighten up the screws. Or sometimes, if I feel it's loosening you can hear the 2 pieces "clink" when you hold the bracelet together with your other hand. I wear it all the time but when I travel on the plane, I like to take it off so it's easier to go through Security. Then I put it back on myself when I'm on the plane or at the destination. I would avoid doing any kind of glueing with the locktite. One time I had to go be on a machine at the hospital to get scanned and I needed to not have an metal on me. You need to be able to take off the bracelet. If you are near a Cartier place, have them really clean it, put it on and tighten it for you. My husband didn't tighten it well enough for me and I had the issue you had where it was loose every couple of days. I try to get it cleaned at Cartier after the summer when I have been sweaty, at the pool, etc.

Hi Mel, I don't have any experience with this bracelet but your issue is very interesting to me as I make handbags and wallets. Some bag makers use these type of screws in the industry and loctite is a very commom adhesive that is used in jewelry/handbag making. Unfortunately with the thread on these types of screws after time you will have an issue with them coming loose. I will say that it does seem like the threads on your first bracelet were faulty, this is of course just my opinion but I have experienced faulty screws in bag making. anyway, if you decide to use loctite on your bracelet, I would not give it one bit of worry, it is an excellent product and may even give you more peace of mind to enjoy your stunningly beautiful bracelet. love your channel! 💕

I really wanted one but I cannot wear it to work and figured it would be annoying taking it on and off. I ended up purchasing one like your diamond one from yr mother-in-law. The single hinge is easier and the style is beautiful. X

They are beautiful bracelets but I just can't wear jewelry to bed. I'd have to do the ring that can be removed at night. So glad they replaced it for you. Loctite would indeed help without damaging the bracelet in any way so keep an open mind about it. It's more like a gel that thickens the threads so they don't move rather than glue.

It is a manufacturing defect for sure. I’ve never had any problem with mine for 3 months now, does not even need to be constantly tightened. I love how Cartier stand by its product.

I bought mine 20 days ago while on vacation. It’s fallen 3 times. I can’t wear it now because the screw went missing last time it dropped. It was put on initially in the boutique, by a Cartier rep. Cartier is not helping out, so I had to get my credit card issuer involved. We’ve purchased over 10 pieces from them, and beyond upset at their lack of care.

Got exactly the same issue, brought it back , was sent to Paris, came back and was actually still defect.Love my bracelet but actually disappointed and I finally glue it in order to don t be stress about it. I m glad to see your video because Cartier said it was really strange but actually I realise now that it happens a lot. Not so nice from Cartier...

Thanks for sharing your story Mel and am happy to hear Cartier stepped up and offered the replacement. I’ve had my LᎾVE (plain no diamonds, "new" screw system) for 7 years now and though i don’t wear it daily, when i do wear it i have it on for weeks-months straight. So far, fingers crossed, it’s never fallen off. But the screws do get slightly looser over time. I actually put on/take off all by myself - clockwise to lock, anticlockwise to unlock. and NO WAY will i use some glue on fine jewelry, sorry! Haha. ♥️

I have three Love bracelets, white, yellow, and pink gold, that I wear on my left wrist as a stack. I never take them off. They are the old style, where each half has a metal tongue with a hole on one end, and a slot on the other end, and you screw the two halves together with a separate screw that is not attached. Over the years, I have had to have each bracelet repaired by Cartier because the constant clanking of the bracelets against each other, resting my wrist against hard surfaces, sleeping on my arm, etc. have caused the metal to fatigue slightly and the screws to loosen in the holes. When I was in NYC last year I actually lost a screw and found the bracelet hanging on by the remaining screw. Each time, it's like Cartier has to rebuild the tongue parts and when I get it back, the bracelet is like brand new, but I'm about $400 out of pocket. I've done this twice for each bracelet. It's getting a little tiring to constantly have to check to see that I don't have any screws loose... I'm thinking about retiring them and getting the Ecrou de Cartier, as that has a more secure fastening system.

I bought a Tudor watch for my husband and the screws for the bracelet had locktite in them when i bought it from the official retailer. It is no problem to unscrew them later, it’s just a little more secure, so I wouldn’t be concerned about using locktite
@teresat54965 жыл бұрын
In the jewelry industry We use loctite for all kinds of precious metal jewelry repair. It works like a polymer resin epoxy. 18k is soft, and the threading on the screw and in the bracelet can move out of shape, once they do it’s best to replace the piece. The screws cannot be rethreaded. It’s just engineering...so think about what happens if the piece torques out of shape...the screws won’t tighten then either. If you shake the bracelet and it wiggles....get it into repair, they are made to be tightened basically ONCE, and if you overtighten it, you can strip the threading.

I did lost two screws before! Not all the screw perfectly fit the bracelet, if there r always getting loose, u can purchase an extra screw fr Cartier until u get the perfect one. I did try this for 2 love bracelets

I got a love bracelet as a graduation gift from my parents and I wholeheartedly agree with you that for the price tag you shouldn't need to go out of your way to keep it secured. I haven't experience the issue yet (been wearing it for a little over 3 months) but time will tell. Also no issue with wearing it while I travel. It only beeped once when I was in Israel for a business trip - but the airport security did way more than putting me through the scan but that's just their standard protocols...lol...other than that no issue with the metal detector when flying domestically in the US or internationally.
