I remember watching this back when it was on Sunday morning. It got put up in the same block of shows that started Inhumanoids, Jem and the Holograms and one about Bigtoot (the truck). I actually love those VHS boxes as they keep everything protected rather well.

Seriously. A child from the 80's should have dealt with this at least once from a rental store before they started shilling DVDs. I had those things figured out in seconds... most of the time. Sometimes it didn't part enough when you squeezed.

Watching the Robotix movie I will admit I did wish it would've continued. The idea was there but as you said it was too much like Transformers. Quite honestly if the characters were more fleshed out and given more variety in the designs it could have been better. Also Robotix gave a better explanation as to why the robots have seats for people than Transformers. Give them that at least. Thanks for the review. :)

Just grabbed my copy of the comic and it does explain what the alien's deal was attacking the human ship. It's not much of an explanation, mind you. The scout ship accidentally passed through Ejoorianian space (that's their name) and they got pissy and tried to kill them. Apparently they're very territorial and a bunch of jerks. Like I said, not much of an explanation but it's there. Also the scout ship is named "Daniel Boone". Cute.

Transformers was my favorite show, but Robotix was pretty cool too. I do Not see this as a rip off of Transformers, at all. Rather, Hasbro was trying to cash in even more on the action-robots craze with a different spin. Perhaps you are confused by the countless common production values, like same writers, voicers, animation, and parent company. I suggest another viewing with an open mind.
