Think about how Cartoon Network took up potentially valuable ad space for specials like this, all of it done just to be silly while also introducing kids to politics and the importance of voting. It really speaks to what a different company the network was at the time. You still see elements of that like when the Dove Self-Esteem Project partnered with Steven Universe to make segments talking about acceptance, body confidence, and kindness, but as we increasingly move more towards streaming, you really get the feeling that creative segments like this are becoming relics of a bygone era.

@@MODDEDbyBACTERlA considering the topics they were covering were body image and inclusion, *yeah* of course at least some of the audience they were reaching out to were probably gonna be gay people. No f*cking duh… like are you a moron?

Honestly, I preferred pre-2010s CN personally. After 2010, the shows weren't as good (in my opinion), and the network started preaching at us. 2000s CN was bolder and more creative. I mean, yeah, like you've said, they were exposing kids to politics through a silly fictional election. I'd rather have that over being preached at. I also didn't like that "Stop Bullying, Speak Up" campaign thing either. As someone who has dealt with bullying, I've found that telling an authority figure doesn't do shit. Especially in the modern age. In fact, I've met some school faculty and business management that's been willing to throw myself, and other victims, under the buss to save their own reputations. So, not only does what that campaign suggests not work, it's also not a televised network's place to preach any morals to an audience.
@Unownshipper3 ай бұрын
@@MODDEDbyBACTERlA Clearly the "kindness" aspect of the campaign was lost on some... Yeesh!🙄
@Unownshipper3 ай бұрын
@@azazelgrigori9244 I'm genuinely sorry that your personal experience with such matters has been so bad. No one should be victimized a second time, and that you have is honestly unfortunate; sincere condolences. At the same time, I ask you to pause and evaluate the message you're giving off with this: you're advocating *against* an anti-bullying campaign. You see that, right? Maybe you think the SBSU campaign was ineffective. If the "tell and adult" part is what you take umbrage with, I ask you, what's the alternative? Sit in silence? Grin and bear it? Is *that* an idea worth telling children? Just because you had a bad experience with this course of action, does that necessarily mean it's bad advice? It only has to help one child to be worth it. Additionally from a quick glance through the campaign's deliverables, the "talk to an authority figure" angle was only one component. The campaign also advocated kindness, inclusion, and togetherness. The message was to reach out to other children before bullying happened by making everyone feel less alone. There was also a component of identifying the reasons why a kid might bully others in the first place and trying to resolve conflict amongst peers. As a side note, while you may think it's not a network's place to impart moral commentary, the fact is that ALL of them (from Fox to MTV, from PBS to BET, from CBN to TLC) do this overtly or indirectly by the choice of programs they broadcast to their specified audience. Whether a show reinforces them or subverts them, each piece of content is a statement on social norms or behavior. The mere act of having a network transmitting a content is an act of broadcasting a message. Furthermore, the Children's Television Act of 1990 requires broadcast television stations to air educational and informational programming for children and Cartoon Network *is* a children's entertainment company with a core audience of boys and girls age 6-12. So, whether you think it's "preaching" or not, congress has mandated they have to do this. With this in mind, an anti-bully campaign is about the least controversial stance they could have chosen to take. Who could be against this? I'm not pointing all of this out just to dogpile on you or attack you personally, but your remark really took me by surprise and I just wanted to suggest that perhaps you weren't looking at the broader picture because of your very personal first-hand experience.
