As a lifetime fan of The Thing this is my favorite issue of Fanfare they ever published. BWS does a great job of storytelling.

I remember when The Thing autographed this comic to me; “To Johnny..”

wow that first page looks like the Steranko splash page in Captain America 111 "Tomorrow You Live, Tonight I Die!!"

Finished reading Monsters today - an excellent book that I know I'll return to. Great series of videos on BWS - hope you take a look at Daredevil 236, which deals with some of the issues raised in Monsters.

Ed, great call out on Bobby Bailey to the thing. They do look alike!! I’m amazed by how BWS is using all the tricks and skills he’s gathered throughout the years and applying to “Monsters”. I hope Fanta reprints some of his older out of print stuff too.

A beloved favorite piece of work by Barry Windsor Smith. Thanks for featuring!

I always assumed it was specifically produced for Marvel Fanfare as a way to herald Windsor-Smith's comeback to comics as it was published a few months before the Machine Man mini-series and X-men #186 Lifedeath story in 1984.

I remember reading some pages from an unfinished Barry Windsor Smith story about the Thing years ago, I'm not sure if it was published at some point, but the art was amazing and the story was surprisingly heartfelt

That black v shaped collar piece is what separated the super skrull from the regular skrulls.

Another weird Kayfabe coincidence. This issue has been sitting on the top of a stack on my desk for months. Gonna get into it now!

Super skrull can de-power and just look like a regular skrull. Also surprised y'all didnt mention Barry Windsor-smiths unfinished Thing graphic novel

HA! That was excellent. Just a fun wacky story well made. Good catch on the loads, Ed! I put those in my mom's cigarettes. Used to tied up pull string firecrackers all over the house, on cabinets, doors, even tied shoes together. I don't know how my parents didn't kill me. HA! Love that you guys are focusing on BWS this week. I can't wait for Monsters. It looks amazing. Also can't wait for Red Room. And Jim, every time I see that ballpoint pen book I wish it was available in print again. I want to hold that thing and stare at it.

Thanks for the BWS retrospective. Hope you revisit the BWS stories in Epic Illustrated #16 - bringing Pre-Raphaelite styling to comics.

I'd love to see some of the Marvel Fanfare issues that Ken Steacy did, that guys art is incredible! He did a couple with Iorn Man and Alpha Flight, if that helps.

It's impressive that the Baxter building's ventilation can not only fit the Thing but support his weight. A/C is either remarkably efficient or remarkably terrible.
