Greg Capullo's work was a massive impression on me. I would copy his drawings over and over when he was on Spawn. He's still one of my favorites, 25 years later.

Love this Wizard mag recap! ...I noticed the ASH ad, as well as SHI issue 1 mention at the back. I miss this magazine so much.

Congrats on two years! Cool to watch you flip through this mag. I recently read Jim Starlin's Malibu entry, 'Breed, and enjoyed it...though I enjoy all of the many Starlin books I've read---always a good combination of gritted-teeth drama, entertainment, and philosophy in his work.

Nice video. On Randy Bowen, I met him at his house once a few years back. I was working on a comic with fighter Nate Quarry and I was having trouble drawing his lead female's face. So he picks me up and we go to Bowen's house. We went over face structure and all that, then spent the rest of the time looking over his new house and he was unpacking original art. I had to step outside myself, looking at original art from Robert Crumb and Frazetta, pieces and personal sketches that were continuously blowing my mind. It was a wonderful treat and it was hard not to geek out too hard. He was a wonderful host and a hell of a gentleman and the best at what he does.

My first Cartoonist Kayfabe video was your oversized 3-part first anniversary episode! Good on you for another year, and especially this year. Your videos have helped me to create more, study more comics work and get through some heavy times this year. Thank you for your time and effort.

1:11:11 Spawn #1 is what got me into comics. 19 & 20 are the reason I dropped the series. I remember after #18 came out, the next issue to hit the stand was #21.. I was confused, but bought it anyway. The comic store owner mumbled something about them getting 21 out of order... figured it would sort itself out and get back to normal next month... but nope, next was #22, and at that point I was out. then came 23, and 24.....19 & 20 wouldn't ship until after all that, but I never did get to read them. I heard they weren't all that great.

good stuff... as a kid I was reading New Mutants at that point and I did not get it. I recently reread that arc from the Demon Bear Epic Collection and enjoyed it a lot... Also you mentioned the Bravura Comics line.. yeah there wasn't a break out.. however it should be noted that The Nocturnals is an on going book every so often and has become a cult hit.

Another good video series might be looking at the letter section of the early Savage Dragon comics. Fans were really really tough on the series and Erik actually printed and responded to some of the harshest ones

The WildC.A.T.s Year One project did happen. It became two series. One was Team One: WildC.A.T.s and the other was Team One: Stormwatch. Robinson wrote the WildC.A.T.s one, with art by Richard Johnson. The Stormwatch book was written by Steven T. Seagle, with art by Tom Raney. As for the DC Implosion, there's a great oral history of it called Comic Book Implosion by John Wells and Keith Dallas. It's a TwoMorrows book.

Starman, The Spectre, and Sandman Mystery Theatre were all easily better than anything else released in the 90s, and I'm right in between you two in age, and I got Image initially. I have kept all 3 of those series, and could not care less about the Image books of the age, even though I love that the company comes from that dark time.

Comics can be anything, but fans/consumers drive the medium through demand. If indie comics and different styles were in high demand (Image boom of the 90s), then the corporate comics would shift that way (like they did for a while in the 90s).

My understanding of the DC Implosion was that it was caused by a deliberate feint by Marvel, where they added pages and made a temporary price jump for a few months in their books, causing DC to think they had to make similar moves to catch up, only for Marvel to slip back into third gear and kill the Distinguished Competition by offering their product at the previous pricepoint. Also- Miracleman 15 ain't no 2 dollar book! Look that shit up on ebay. It's been higher than a Georgia Pine.
