I was talking to Bill about this book a couple years ago and he was telling me he was sort of disappointed with the end result. He told me he had planned much more experimental, over the top visuals. He was really going to go completely buck wild and I guess there was some push back to that? The project was supposed to be bigger in scope and totally balls to the wall. Something worth bringing up if you guys chat with him. I still think it's a completely epic piece of art! It's nuts!

Got this back in the 90s and LOVED it. Lost it somewhere along the way, and picked ot back up a few years ago: intact with the CD. Hendrix was always one of my favorite musicians, Sienkiewicz is of course superb, and Green has the music journalism chops! That CD really slaps also; with intimate at-home recordings 1983 A Merman I Should Be was a particular favorite...

Add Ian Curtis to the group of young artists that couldn't deal with the end of childhood that rapid success brings and "where do I go from here?". Been a fan of Bill's style ever since I first read Elektra Assassin. He has built a system of creating art that doesn't look like it's a system.

If you're a fan of Hendrix's music, make sure you get a copy of the book that includes the CD. Here's why -- the music on it consists of demos that Hendrix recorded at home, and his singing is much more front-and-center and more expressive than you'll find in most of his studio recordings.

The acoustic version on that cd of 1983 a merman I should be to this day is one of my fav songs from Hendrix

I remember when this came out, to accompany the marketing push for the Voodoo Soup record of “lost” demo recordings. BS also did the album cover. MCA recordings threw a ton of $ at this project.

Great book to have in anyone’s collection if you like art. There’s some of the best art I’ve ever seen in here. You guys went way too fast thru it.
