Crazy over here in Florida is all DE and cartridge. Never seen a sand. Hopefully I’ll come across one.

Sand filters are sooo much easier than DE and cartridge. Nowadays, with clarifying agents and the like, most people wouldn't notice any difference in water clarity with a sand filter (sometimes people use a special glass media in them too). Look out for them.

DE filters are quite uncommon now; most sand (media) filters and some cartridge filters; there are some health concerns about inhaling DE dust.
