Hi fam, I'll be doing an unboxing/install/review video for the Heads-Up Display Unit (HUD) sponsored by CarTrimHome. The installation experience was straight forward and completely plug and play with no wire splicing necessary. Although my Platinum Highlander already comes standard with it's own HUD, I did find value in the CarTrimHome HUD as it provided battery voltage data that I found useful among other features.

I guess that's good to know that your wife views me as a bad influence! 😅 I plan to install the OEM tow hitch sometime this summer if I can source the parts for a good deal. CarTrimHome recently added a few new products on their website that they are sending me to review so stay tuned! Great channel. I have exact same same year and model Highlander obviously with heads up display which I love. Already have tach on dash and existing heads up shows speed though numeral size is slightly smaller. Maybe handy to know distance to empty in kilometers as I do drive in Canada every year but an ammeter is of little utility for me. Great explanation and vid though showing disassembly of dash and steering wheel trim. Never know when that will come in handy. Oh, you have a hybrid too and SON! (assuming your average mpg screen is right), you are getting truly shitty mileage from that bad boy. I average 32.2 to 32.8 mpg month in and month out and I haul lots of heavy crap and sometimes a trailer. You must have extreme lead-footedness! Keep up the good work. BTW, I ordered the cartrimhome LED Hatchdoor lites kit today and used your discount code. Thanks.

Thanks for the support Tom! 22mgp would definitely be crappy for a hybrid lol I do a lot of short distance driving less than 2 miles per trip to pickup my kids at school then I sit in the parking lot with the heater on so the cabin is warm for them and it definitely lowers the mileage calculation. Similar to yours, I'm getting 32mpg when I'm driving for longer stretches of miles per trip. Definitely not a lead foot and thanks for supporting my channel!

From what I noticed is that if you disconnect wires while the car is still attached to the battery, you’ll need to reinitialize the item by pressing the button once while the car is on. For reference I ripped apart my center console and unplugged the electronic parking brake. And it gave me a similar message once everything was re-connected and put back together. I pressed the button and it became available again

Hi, love your videos. I like very much to get get rpm hud and was ready to hit it but why on earth didn’t they increase the height of the small short wall to have the light from device blocked from driver’s eyes (1/4inch would do). Maybe there was some reason to I don’t know about... Pity though….

Thanks for the install video! I’m considering it even though donI have the platinum gas. It seems easier to read than the Toyota HUD. My NJ inspection sticker on the dash shouldn’t get in the way I think. Didn’t see your state inspection sticker on the window. Was there a way to change to MPG reading and the coolant temp to Fahrenheit?

@pcimprezzive Luckily for me, I live in Washington state so I don't have to deal with those inspection stickers. 😁 Unfortunately this version of the HUD doesn't have mpg and Fahrenheit units which is a bummer.

My Platinum trim has the windshield that is designed for my OEM heads up display so I don't have the double vision issue. Have you tried using the film adhesive supplied with the kit to reduce this?

Do you guy sell aftermarket toyota highlander side SRS or the one closer to windshield speaker ? I had toyota highlander XLE. But I want to upgrade but the vehicle still new. So not so many people that are aftermarket products.

Good afternoon. Please tell me if the numbers on the device itself interfere? (not on the glass) can you see the numbers on the device when you drive the car? And is it possible to change the brightness of the backlight?

Yes, you can see the numbers on the device if you focus and stare down at it but I don't notice it since I'm more focused on whats in front of me and out of my peripheral vision. The brightness can be adjusted to dim it, take a look at the instructions I've included in the video description.

@@yvtchrcarlock3584 of course, if you've already joined our modding FB group, just find my profile and send me a direct message. Fishing the cable was easy and took me only a few minutes. It helps to bend the metal hanger into an arc shape and run it along the firewall. There's plenty of space to look into the steering column and grab the cable at the other end. I have the JBL speakers and there was no change to my sound.

Not this product but there are other aftermarket HUDs designed for your car. You can search for it on AliExpress but I don't have experience with them.

Hi, thanks for the video. I ordered one and installed it in my 2023 highlander limited hybrid. Problem is that I am not getting any display at all but getting the beep sound when I press buttons. Hmm, not exactly sure why but try downloading the instructions I provided in the video description. I read that if you're getting a blank display but it still hear th beeps, try starting the engine and either shake or replug the harness to see if that helps establish the connection.

How hard was it to fish the coat hanger through? Just curious because my hud should be here soon!

@Jesus Roman It's very easy, just run the coat hanger wire down along the back firewall. Once you get to the bottom and remove the steering wheel console cover, you'll see there is a lot of open space inside to stick your hand in the grab the other side of the HUD wires. If you have big hands, just use tape or a hook to pull the coat wire out far enough to untape the wires and you're done!

Yep, it's still installed and I mostly leave only the green rpm gauge on since I have the OEM HUD. Once and a while, I may turn on the voltage meter just for kicks but I don't use it for anything else. One thing that I have noticed now that it's been several weeks since installation is sometimes the HUD won't turn on automatically when I push the start button but I can easily hit the far right button on the HUD to turn it on. It's a minor annoyance but I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that there are extended periods where I don't drive my car for 3 days straight since I work from home. I'm thinking the preset memory from my last setting is wiped if the car is not started for a long period of time. Other than that, it works fine, hope that helps!

Not this specific model as it will work for 2020-2022 Toyota Highlanders. You can contact the seller directly on their website that I've provided in the video description to see if they have another hud that is compatible for your car.

If you don't have the Platinum trim which has the laminate setup for HUD displays, you may experience double vision through your windshield. If that's the case, have you used the supplied tinted adhesive to improve the clarity?

Yes, they work on gas and hybrids. Depending on the year of your RAV4, they have the specific make/model HUD available.

That's unusually long to not receive a shipping confirmation, have you reached out to customer service with your confirmation order number? I'm sorry to hear you're having such a long delay Paul. I know they provide tracking numbers to all their packages since shipping can sometimes get stuck at customs for international deliveries. I hope you find resolution soon.

Moving sticker up will obstruct the view of the road, what would add the bind spot! I think this Device only would benefit states doesn’t require inspection stick or registration on left bottom windshield 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hey, after installed the wire harness the display only works for 10 seconds then never displays anything anymore. Any clue on how to fix this? It makes sounds when I press the ok button. Thanks

Did you set your settings in parameter mode? To enter and exit this mode, you need to long press the "OK" for 3 seconds. Check out the instructions I've linked in the video description.

Also try unplugging and repluging the harness back in to see if it resets.

Please don't go to Ali express for few dollars cheaper and wasting your time like I did. I've order one for 2017 HL from Ali Express and arrived today and first off display does not look what from the picture they sell and second it only show me 188 or 0. Paper instruction is tiny words even under magnified glass I can't read it so I search youtube and found this as he have a PDF version. Well, it not exact same model but some what an ideas. I still can't understand what the instruction are saying to be honest. Press longer.... but which button? At time they refer to left arrow... then other paragraph just hold longer.... WTF!!!!

Yeah, AliExpress is a crapshoot, I order things from there and try to find sellers that have official storefronts or a lot of good reviews, there's too many knockoffs so gottta be weary. The folks at CarTrimHome have been a pleasure to partner with, great service, fast response and they've taken some of my ideas to create and improve their products in the future.
