Over the years I've learned the hard way to just go and get toyota ECU's inspected and re-capped even if they are Visually fine, Have a JZA70 supra that would submit no start conditions at times, Ignition, Fuel, or both the problem, ECU was badly corroded from leaking caps, and required circuit repairs as well as new caps, this solved the problem until this day I have 2 3T-GTE powered Corona's that also had weird engine issues, from bad running to hydrolocking the engine with fuel, both the ECU and the Knock sensor computers had several cracked and dry solder joints, once repaired they run beautifully My recently bought UZZ30 soarer was running perfect, no problems at all, I did not care, the ECU was removed as soon as I got the car, and got it serviced, cleaned and recapped, and now I know it wont be a problem for another 30years, hopefully! So I do appreciate these videos on the ECU's, they really do need to be all serviced at some point, "mine is going fine at the moment" just means it wont be later on, and it might be too late for a fix, or an easy one at that

I have seen similar things. I used to work on more normal cars so went through the 1990s mitsubishi ecu issues and it took ages for the toyotas to start failing but sure enough it happened. Now I see them as a service item to sort before the totally fail. Cheers Kelvin

Great info again I have a 1999 Toyota marine boat with A M1uz engine. Vvti The ecu is supposedly custom and nva Mine is ok but I may get mine serviced or do it myself Any knowledge of the Toyota boat M1uz? Your info is a great help
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
The vvti which toyota made for the boats is a great thing, the ecu is different with no auto and non immobilizer so not easy to replace.

i have a 06 lexus ls430 with random misfires at times sometimes shows only 2 cylinders then it shows all the cylinders. Would the ecm be the culprit?

Always possible but unlikely. Best diagnose it correctly.

Hi. Does there exist a PnP aftermarket ECU for the 3UZ ECU case ?

Not that I'm aware off, and the stock ecu can be reflashed for lightly tuned cars

Hello. I have a 2006 gs430 , and I'm not experiencing any issues as of yet, but would like to get it looked at and flashed before anything starts happening. Would the flash gives it a little better performance as well? How much to do the look over and flash? Thank you in advance.
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the main reason for a reflash is better performance.

Hi Kelvin, would you be able to assist in refreshing my 98 LS400 1UZ VVTI ecu? My LS400 is showing signs of poor shifting quality and feels slow all around.. Have checked the vsv and is functional upon start up.. ECU has never been opened before
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
For the LS400 ecus we dont offer a viable reflash at this point in time. I do recommend getting them serviced as I have a pile of them which have failed now. Cheers Kelvin

@@CartuneNZ Sorry I actually meant recapping/ freshening up the ECU by replacing the failed components. Not reflash

Hey Kelv, ive been thinking of getting a 3uz celsior, majesta or ls430. Are there any issues you know of? Im enjoying the vids
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
I have a pile of crap ls430 i got cheap. Biggest issue is previous owners doing dumb stuff, and the normal wear and tear. Avis solenoids, poor servicing, etc. Try to find a nice tidy granddad spec car and they are awesome. Then do a major service and they last really well. Oh, and give me the ecu to reflash

The ecu can be swapped however its not a straightforward job with other stuff to swap as well so most likely not a practical solution

@@CartuneNZ o ok. my biggest concern was transmission control being that the 3uz didnt hv the same transmission and the drive by wire throttle body. i hv spare 3uz parts sitting in my shop that i didnt want to throw out thats y i was inquiring plus the reflash option😊
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
@@khall3470 3uz came with a A650 on the early ones and A761 on the later. The early 3uz ecu doesn't have tiptronic features and there are also internal changes on some transmission to match the control logic at this point in time. As I said, it may not be a practical solution, as the ecu doesn't plug into the loom so its also a loom change etc etc

Kelvin, any way to replace leaking caps with something that will last longer? Or is it just a "useable life" issue (x number of heat cycles or something)?
@CartuneNZ2 жыл бұрын
Sticking to good quality is the way. its an age and cycles issue and many of these ecus are 20 years old so a quick service and they are good again. There are repairers using cheap crappy caps and we see those come through way sooner than they should , often they are non repairable as a result too.
