On a recent camping trip, we decided to carve ourselves a bushcraft/primitive bow and arrow set. My tool on hand was the Tops Knives SXB. I couldn't have asked for a better tool for this task. With the ability to utilize many grips and many portions of the blade, this SXB really performed! Surprisingly balanced and a great slicing/carving capability, I can say this SXB was a definite pleasure to work with on this project! Now my bow on the other hand...well let's just say I need some more practice!

Thanks! I thought this would be a neat way to test it. We were 6 miles out in the mountain wilderness...it was great to have to rely on this knife while out there. Makes it more fun that way!

Great vid. Love my sxb. (Did the same with my paracord so I could really choke back when I wanted to)

The paracord across the handle makes a HUGE difference in the comfort of this knife and the ability to work at length.

Like the other comment I read, it looks like a Tom Brown Tracker. Also, when I told you about looking at stars with night vision, make sure they’re Gen 1. I didn’t realize that they’re selling IR digital ones that I have no idea whether or not they’ll work for star gazing. Amazon has an inexpensive gen 1 monocular that a friend of mine is getting to star gaze etc. Sportsman’s Guide has them too.

Definitely needed.more tillering on the bow. Making one is a lot of work. Paracord is a terrible string as it stretches quit a bit.

AN excellent FIRST go at it. Every time it will get better and better. You are right the various ways to hold the blade were an advantage.

It's pretty far from a tracker actually...I have found most of my tops knives to have really good edges...I'm surprised you didn't find them sharp...which models?

@@outerlimitless looks just like a big tracker except were the serrations are. I have the yacare and bracamo. They came somewhat sharp but I always touch up my knives. Have a good day brother.

The SXB-10 sucks. I'm unfortunate enough to own one, used it, and can't stand it. Weighs a ton, no one quite seems to known what I'd call euphemistically " Saw teeth " on the spine are for? Notching, hell, you can do that better with a knife, and at whatever with you want! The SXB-10 sucks at chopping because off the short length of straight edge which rapidly extends into a totally useless angle for chopping. The SXB-10 is a prime example of a tool sold primarily on its crude aesthetic looks. A well chosen outdoors knife, bowie, whatever, as long as it's a tried and trusted design, custom made, or a quality mass produced knife combined with a good quality hatchet/hand axe will serve anyone better than an SXB-10. My SXB-10 came blunt, my Armageddon came blunt ( The Armageddon is another piece of crap ), the only knife I have from TOPS witch came hair popping sharp was The Wild Pig Hunter, yeah I know it's a specialised knife, but it's a beauty! A truly awesome design, damn I love that knife! The combination of a good blade and hatchet could weigh a little more, or a little less than that slab of steel, the god damn SXB-10, damn I even despise typing that! It's a gung ho tool, it'd look cool in a movie, but in reality it's a dud compared to other tools, and just because it's an enlarged version of a traditional Argentinian knife design doesn't mean it's a good tool/knife, whatever the hell it's supposed to do or be, all I know is I find it next to useless compared to other equipment on the market.

It was stretching as we used it...the paracord wasn't the best choice, but it's what we had available. We weren't necessarily planning on making bows, but it went the way it did. The limbs being too thick are the more difficult part of this build. They need to be further thinned down.
