Thanks for the videos. I still go back and rewatch them when I'm struggling with specific areas.

Excellent work. 👍👍👍 Word of warning to anyone doing the same.. *Don’t use ‘Kiln Dried Wood’.* During the forced drying process the wood develops internal cracks and splits inside that you cannot see, you get 3/4 of the way through your carving project and suddenly come across the internal cracks as you carve, [I’ve done this and ended up with spoons where I have had to fill the cracks up with resin glue or even abandon the project. Extremely annoying.

Btw, this birch log was felled by my neighbor last summer. I meant to carve it while it was still green but didn’t get around to it until recently. Didn’t want to waste the piece so I attempted it anyway. I’m glad it didn’t crack during the process. I agree, that would be really annoying!

@@frozen_toes_ak Same. On youtube, I mainly throw shuriken; in reality, I'm nearly as passionate about spoon carving. Looks like you got a nice, thin bowl to that one; should be very comfortable to use, aye? 👍👍

@@TheShurikenZone nice! Just saw your kolrossing short. I need to learn how to that one of these days.

@frozen_toes_ak Kolrosing is a lot of fun. Laying out the grid with pencil is the hardest part, I think. That, and knowing that mistakes can't be corrected, and an over-cut of half a millimeter will be an eyesore. hah I just try to put that part out of my mind.

I found yours found your channel from KZbin shorts now I’m working my way through your videos haha. I too started but watching zedoutdoors and all the various people he collaborates with. I see you’re using a Robin Wood spoon knife. Which one is it as he sells 3 different types and I’m thinking of buying one. Also, what apron are you wearing? Thanks for the videos, please don’t stop.

Nice! I got the compound hook knife from wood tools. Hoping to get the other ones, someday. The apron is a canvas one from amazon. I’ll have to find in my history to see which one it is. Hoping to get back into carving now that it’s winter again. Summer and fall were pretty busy here.

At the beginning of your video I thought your dog was going to either introduce you or give some sort of tool use warnings by the way it was looking at the camera and sat up when you started recording.
