9 жыл бұрын

In this episode of FUEL, Canadian Olympic Snowboarder Ross Rebagliati embraces his infamous past and embarks on a new venture.
Ross Rebagliati was once embroiled in unchartered controversy at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano where he won gold and then tested positive for cannabis in the first-ever snowboarding giant slalom event. In the end, there was no infraction of the rules and his gold medal was reinstated.
Fast-forward to today where cannabis culture and legislation has drastically changed; Ross is now the go-to guy for cannabis in athletics. He openly helms a thriving cannabis company, which is a direct nod to his past: Ross’ Gold. Ross whisks us around Whistler showing us how he’s fully embraced and integrated cannabis into his life and diet. Consuming cannabis helps to fuel his body by increasing his appetite, essentially giving him the Munchies and enabling him to consume the calories he needs to actively perform and function as a faster and stronger athlete.
If you do have cannabis, make sure you do have food nearby because you’re going to feel hungry! -Ross Rebagliati

@@candyqueen31 I think it's a couple of factors. Marijuana tends to actually promote blood flow and increase your lungs ability to absorb oxygen. The pain reduction and lowering of inflammation allows people to go a bit further without feeling absolutely knackered. Also possibly regulates blood sugar and blood pressure which is why stoners actually have a lower rate of obesity compared to average people.

I had "end stage renal failure" when I was 10 years old and I'm now 23! So I've had it for pretty much all my life, and now 40+ surgeries later and 13 years later, I have no kidneys in my body and am solely dependent on dialysis 3x a week to stay alive! I throw up on average between 2-10 times a day! (On average like I said) I not only have trouble keeping meds and food down, but I don't have a "healthy" appetite on top of that! So the only way that I have found to feel hungry and be able to keep food and my medications (ie blood pressure meds, and my dialysis meds) down, has been cannabis! It's seriously helped me feel a little better and allow me to eat and keep what I eat down! It's definitely been a miracle worker for me!

I like marijuana, but everything he says at 6:00 about empty sockets in your brain is 100% wrong, unfounded, and scientifically disproven... That's like saying because we have opioid receptors we should all be taking heroin to saturate those receptors for optimal function. We produce endogenous cannabinoids, and they serve a purpose, and like any other drug, when your body doesn't need to produce endogenous transmitters, the system becomes depressed, and doesn't function as well without exogenous stimulation. Its not nearly as drastic as with primary transmitters/receptors, but the effect is indeed similar..
@snoitseuqpi1119
@snoitseuqpi1119 8 жыл бұрын
Rodrigo Partida My point was, that to assert the body is 'made for exocannabinoids' is an inaccurate claim. It is an erroneous assumption. Are our bodies meant for exogenous neurotransmitters? Are our bodies designed to take exogenous hormones too? Just because we have the ability to make use of extra testosterone to increase physical performance does not imply that we are designed to take testosterone, and in fact, it's the opposite, just as with cannabinoids. Do some research,. Just as taking testosterone shuts down your natural production of the hormone, the same is true with opioids and endorphins/ dopamine, the same is true with marijuana and cannabinoids. Our bodies produce cannabinoids as a way to calm us down. When we are stressed out, we produce cortisol and other chemicals, and hormones to make us more capable of dealing with the issue at hand, however, when the stimulus is gone, and we need to relax, our bodies create endogenous cannabinoids to help mitigate the stress response, and bring us back to baseline,. Just like supplementing anything else our body produces, marijuana depressed the natural production of these compounds, although this system rebounds quickly by comparison, marijuana use can cause the body to limit natural production of endogenous cannabinoids, as well as other neurotransmitters. You can assume anything you want about the body being made for weed, but you would be making shit up, and believing in a stupid theory that has been disproved by actual clinical trials.

+Snoitseuq Pie what about melatonin? our brain makes it but we can also supplement it without ill effecets.
@snoitseuqpi1119
@snoitseuqpi1119 8 жыл бұрын
Byron B Keep in mind the difference between facts and marketing. The fact is there is no such thing as a free lunch in biology, and there are side effects involved in taking melatonin, they are available online so I won't list them. We have different mechanisms in our bodies, and different triggers for different hormones. Also some systems are highly adaptable, tolerant of changes, and quick to recover, some are not. The body uses external light as a trigger for melatonin production, therefore this system is HIGHLY adaptable, and reacts quickly to changes. Others are not, such as testosterone. The second you inject test into your muscle, your body stops producing endogenous test, and starts trying to convert the extra back into estrogen... This happens quickly, and it can take months for the body to naturally restart production. That is why men are given female fertility drugs like chlomid to help boost/restart the natural production. The concept remains the same though, the only difference is how tolerant the body is of exogenous stimuli, and the rate it can recover once that stimulus is removed. The cannabinoid system is another that recovers relatively quickly... The main thing, and this is true for melatonin too, and this is the crux of my point is that suggesting the fact the body interacts with a molecule means you should be stuffing as much of that molecule into your body as possible, or that it is healthy is at best wrong, at worst irresponsible and insane, and does more to make users of marijuana look like complete idiots with shitty excuses to use it, when they could instead use facts, and discuss actual benefits that are proven to be true... This is a classic assertion made when people argue the benefits of weed, this is not the first time I have heard it, but it is dumb, and wrong, and actually detracts from otherwise intelligent reasoning. The only thing worse than a lack of scientific evidence, is making it up.
@chronichronichronic
@chronichronichronic 8 жыл бұрын
+Snoitseuq Pie What he was saying was not intended to be of any scientific merit, it was a metaphor for the human body's Cannabiniod System; which has receptors in many more areas than just the brain. What he says about cannabis being designed for your body, should be taken to mean that our bodies evolved alongside cannabis, and therefor we have an entire system dedicated to producing very similar chemicals as found in cannabis. This system is boosted when consuming cannabis. The same idea applies for opium and psilocybin, and the brains relationship to dopamine and seritonin.

Some people are pro, some are against, it's obvious. From my personal expierience, I should say that pot has both good and bad quality's: Weed makes you feel relaxed, just chill, absorb the envirement you're in, a movie or a song is so much better, it makes you feel good, the way you should feel all the time,...but despite that it also makes you lazy and wanna eat muchies, and that's unhealthy, but what is healthy these days, I mean, people even start questioning milk, bread, pasta, peanuts, fruit juices...a bag of crips or chips is not the end of the world.. I think people who want to try or use pot, should be able to...those who don't want to use it, just don't use it... If people use it before work, and they don't perform as they are expected to...those people should take responsibility for themselves. You only know what's good for yourself. This is how I feel about Cannabis. I hope someone's with me. Please excuse me for my English.

Dude's hooked on cannabis like a million other people. He just happens to be really good at something, too -- so good, in fact, that when he's impaired, he's still the best in the world at it. He seems to have the personality for it. I smoked weed every day for 5-6 years, and it really has negative effects on my social and professional function. I definitely had friends that could smoke the same amounts all day every day for many years and never seem to have any overt or noticeable health consequences.

Watching this sadly just make me so frustrated. I like Ross struggle to eat on a regular basis and I can often go all day before noticing that I haven't eaten anything. I find that ingesting cannabis changed that dramatically and I would go as far as to say it's my cure for what ever it is that makes me not hungry. I'm frustrated because the country that I live in ( UK ) doesn't allow medical cannabis in any shape or form. I wish I could convince them otherwise but the government somehow only sees cannabis as a dangerous "drug" when in fact it is a wonderful medicine that is just in its infancy .

+Craig Porter I live here too. There was a debate in parliament based on legalisation of Cannabis around a month ago. The tories are ignoring the facts, but representatives of labour and the green party had the decency to even listen to people explaining the masses of medical evidence. Your country still worships the royal family like they werent imbred oppressors before who usually got away with shit in the past because they didnt want to make the royal family look "weak" or for the peasants to, rightly so if I may add, rebel against a system that was built to leech off of what little they did make.

I hear a junkie talking, I am sorry... Don't get me wrong, I've been a smoker myself for more then 10 years. I've seen that when I played football and was high, I would totally not get the level that I reached when I was clear minded. The guy is like, you see that I can eat now, well stop smoking and the first days will be problematic, both eating and sleeping, but in the second week you will see your appetite comes back. You will start dreaming again during sleeping. Stop talking like a junkie and face the truth, try not smoking for a month and after that month, smoke the same stuff you were smoking. You will get hit and not be able to get out of your couch, on that moment you should realize, damn this is some heavy shit, whilst when you smoke daily, your body is so used to the stuff, that you will get high, but still will be doing stuff. Again don't get me wrong, Cannabis is very nice to use, very nice, but the way we make vids and act like it has no negative effect is just crazy.

I support the legalization of cannabis, but as much as I support it weed is not correctly represented in this video by any means. He just gives so much misinformation about the drug that severely exaggerates its benefits. Let me share some correct, unbiased information: -There is no natural "deficiency" in stimulation to cannabinoid receptors. Our body uses these receptors all the time for various functions such as appetite. We overstimulate cannabinoid receptors when we consume weed which leads to the calming effects. Cannabis is just not harmful because it does have a powerful effect at the receptor. Synthetic cannabis such as spice and 7H hydro incense do have a strong effect at the receptor and lead to horrific withdrawal symptoms such as vomiting and constant anxiety. So therefore your body is not "made" for ingestion of cannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors are not "empty plugs". -Marijuana is NOT a performance enhancer. You can make it beneficial if you add it into your daily routine to boost appetite and inhibit pain. However, on the drug, the brain does not function as well as it does sober. Areas of the brain responsible for memory and motor movement are impaired by cannabinoid receptor activity. Your mind does NOT work faster unfortunately. In fact, it could possibly increase estrogen production, which could be detrimental to muscle growth. Also, despite opposing claims, there IS a MILD withdrawal when a long time smoker goes cold turkey for a time period. -Cannabis is not necessarily a good anti-inflammatory medicine. Different studies have yielded different results, so it just depends on which source you choose to believe. There is no conclusive evidence to cannabis being anti-inflammatory. It only inhibits the feeling of pain, which is completely different from an immune response. -A painkiller such as Advil is not unhealthy. It is actually BETTER at reducing inflammation than cannabis. Studies have shown that ingestion of one Advil per day can increase life span because of its beneficial anti-inflammatory effects. Marijuana is not able to perform on the same level of anti-inflammation. So, I like the message he sends, but so much of it is wrong. Marijuana is not dangerous at all and is a fun recreational drug but it is definitely not as amazing as he makes it sound. It has beneficial effects too, but those are unstated in this video while the negatives are warped around to be positives. It is foolish to make a drug sound perfect because there really is no such thing as a perfect drug.

Decreasing estrogen is good though. "Growth" would not be just muscular, but fatty liver and visceral adiposity in general. Low blood sugar is a sign of high insulin. Chronically high insulin leads to insulin resistance and diabetes. Its crap. Antiinflammatories in the past half decade have been more stringently studied and more have black box warnings for increased cardiovascular disease. Bleeding is always a risk for nsaids. If there is a study comparing nsaids and cannabis for inflammation, would love to see it. Id rather lower my bleeding risk AND lower my inflammation by eating an anti-inflammatory diet like the ketogenic diet. Very clean, loads less sugar (inflammatory), no grain soy or corn (all inflammatory). By avoiding those foods, you absorb instead of waste vital minerals and vitamins like magnesium and b12.. Thats also wasted in diabetic meds..ironic? By avoiding grains it shuts the junctions between your intestinal lining to no longer let proteins go through which activate your immune system.. Aka inflammation. Cannabis does however have science showing lowering of inflammation amd does not cause bleeding. More will arrive by 2025. Id rather eat fatty meat, small amount of medicinal plants and fungi, and be fasting most of my day and taking care of my pain with cannabis. You cant take nsaids long-term without the high risks of bleeding.. Cannabis does not have bleeding risk. Vape and edibles to avoid smoking risk.

I don't and have never gotten the munchies from cannabis. I also eat very strict Paleo, and that may have something to do with it. Most people binge on junk food when high, which just increases ones appetite and causes bigger cravings. I know many do use it for appetite stimulus, it just doesn't work that way for me.

Ryan McC For some people it may be as cannabis after all is a psychadellic and has different effects on different people. Also strain matters... But being a psychadellic (a very mild one) drug it does have the potential to be performance enhancing. Depends on the users environment, mental state, genes/suceptability to possible negative effects of cannabis and much more. I know people who are super successful working in Silicon Valley who work demanding jobs that smoke cannabis before work and swear by it making them better at their job. On the other hand, I also know low life's at 30 still at their parents without a job who just game and smoke cannabis ..... From experience it really depends on the person. It's not like alcohol where everyone gets pretty much the same effect unless your body is intolerant to say the grains, barley etc alcohol is often made from..

I just think he managed to convince himself he needs it (which is different than addiction to a medicine , one is phychological the other is physical). He believes he wouldn't have gotten his gold medal and most of his achievements if it wasn't for cannabis so he might be afraid that if he stops smoking he'll become a useless human being.
