Just as others have mentioned, it does need a dab of oil before you use it kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e - put a few drops in through the convenient screw cap and you are good to go! I have fished several weeks with a couple of these, and I will be getting more in the future. I put these against my Abu Garcia Pro Max reel, and they actually perform a bit better than the Abu with some of my lighter cranks, and definitely just as good with the rest of my lures. My Abu is a bit more low profile and fits my hand better, but these are definitely not bad at all. You can almost get 3 of these for the price of my Pro Max. My only complaint is the thumb bar sits pretty high compared to my traditional profile Abu. Bring that thumb bar down a little and I’m sold on these all day long.

Fun fact As a metamorphic rock, it is very resistant to heat. In fact, soapstone is often used for casting metals, such as lead, pewter and silver. It has also been used traditionally for cooking pots, pizza stones and other cookware, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, and even tobacco pipes.

I never knew soap stone came that soft. When I was a kid in the 40's kitchen sinks were made out of soap stone. Shop sinks were made out of soap stone also. I never tried but I know it was too hard to carve with a knife. I'll have to look that up.
@DbaldetToShuffle
@DbaldetToShuffle 4 жыл бұрын
The reason behind this lure giving you such a workout is most rocks having a very high relative weight even underwater, like metals (lead and tungsten for example), making it have much more resistance under water. You can basically go by "the faster it sinks, the harder it's going to be to reel in."

I do quite a bit of soapstone carving and yes it is a brittle material. But it looks like you're working with an inferior piece you can find some that are quite structurally sound and much denser. usually there a light blue green color and have beautiful white veins in them. Using an oil-based finish will give you a nicer-looking result, using a file is much more effective than using a knife trust me if you do more soapstone carvings will have dedicated soapstone carving files and knives

It was deemed the quarry would have cost too much to recreate so they opted for a lumber mill instead. I have to wonder if soapstone it might be better material than wood for making templates? I mean... there's no give in it. It seals beautifully. You never have to worry about woodgrain giving you issues during the carving phase. It won't ever expand or contract because of moisture. If you needed to carve "a thing" that you intended to make a mold with, wouldn't it be sort of ideal for that purpose? It's clear that soapstone is not a material to use for fishing, but it probably IS a good material to use for making other lures.
