This is perfect for a beginner wanna be stone carver! I love the specifics and step by step instructions. Would it be possible for you to provide links to the burrs you use in this video. Specifically the 80 grit ones . I’ve looked online and haven’t found anything similar to the ball, cylinder, or your “ most used” one. Those I have found aren’t aggressive or large enough to get the results you show. Thanks! Looking forward to your next video installment!

It's fun to find another carver named Theo! The best way I know to control dust is to carve under a water drip, or routinely dip the carving into a container of water as you carve. Your diamond bits will last much longer too! This is the technique Chinese jade carvers have used for millennia.

What i miss is some info about the rotation speed when carvind stones, and why dont you water cool them to make sure those diamonds hold longer (or am i wrong and it makes no difference ?)
@TheoKellison4 жыл бұрын
I usually only worry about water with harder stones, these rocks are just porphyry so they are extremely soft. Plus their dark color makes my drawn on lines really hard to see when wet so i usually don't worry about water with these, but any other stone i will absolutely use water! As for rpms i use a foot peddle on my flex shaft, and it is always maxed (60,000 rpms i believe this model is). I'll switch to lower rpms when polishing but i have never noticed too much of a difference when shaping. Hope that answers your questions!😊

@@c.h.670 I believe my Chicago electic flex shaft has 30k rpm and I can carve fairly decent with it and noticed that sometimes just a good bit is more valuable than the brand of rotary tool you use. Hope these little tips can get you carving in the right direction 😆🙃😉

This and our other videos are great, thank you for doing them. Do you apply a lot of pressure when carving or do you keep the pressure pretty light and grind away at the stone slowly? New to this and trying to figure out how to get smoother "cuts" and control the tool. It jumps around a lot sometimes, even going out of the groove that's already been cut. Oh and what do you seal with? Some kind of oil or wax?

Damn, I was hoping I didn't need a wet tile saw to make a stone flower like that or similar things. That thing is awesome. I wonder how many bits it would take to grind that down without one. Do you have any advice on drilling holes in a stone like that using a dremel tool?
@TheoKellison4 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can do all of the shaping with diamond burrs, i just trimmed it to save myself a little time!👍 as for drilling, make sure you have constant water on the stone you are drilling and put on a thin and evenly tapered burr. The only thing to note is go VERY slow; a little cut in, rewet, a little cut further, rewet. Otherwise your burr will burn out and lose its grit, or much worse, the burr can break off inside the hole ( which is a nightmare to get out) i hope that answers your question!😊
@joeldouglas4934 жыл бұрын
