I was watching the video thinking what a good job you did in sort of a 'real world use' point of view. I also enjoyed your subtle humor injections which made the review entertaining as well. I came to comment and am blown away by all the haters roasting you. I'm impressed you didn't turn off comments, that shows maturity on your part. That said I will offer you one suggestion - not that you asked... Don't wear sunglasses when speaking to your audience. That said I appreciate your comments especially regarding the trans lag. I'm contemplating buying a used offering and am weighing between the V6 and the V8. I totally ruled out a manual until seeing your review and your live demonstration. As much as I'm a firm believer in the modern automatic trans, after seeing your review I'm thinking you are right about having better control instead of a useless 8 speed auto. Nice job thanks.

Thank you for your comment and feedback! Finally someone who gets what I’ve been trying to say in this video. I wasn’t trying to criticize all Camaros, just this V6 model. The Camaro is one of the most iconic cars of all time and this “rental car” model doesn’t truly embody it’s legacy. I would definitely recommend the manual trans. Even though there have been rapid advancements in automatic transmission technology making them faster and stronger, I was throughly unimpressed by this one. The manual is also so much more engaging, I personally own two manual transmission cars and I have no regrets buying them...except for when I’m stuck in traffic. Used V8 Camaros are pretty easy to find so I would go with that option if you are seriously considering purchasing one. Good luck in your search and thank you so much for watching and commenting!

well I own one and I can personally tell you that he is wrong about the trans lag he doesn't know how to drive the car, the car has a performance shift mode that allows you to downshift in automatic mode without using the paddle shifters it is much more effective the automatic versions are faster then the manuals by 0.2 seconds but still faster. to activate the performance shift mode you have to press the throttle completely and let go of it about 75% of the way then you can repress it as hard as you want and the car will take off I can promise you that I do it everytime I drive my camaro

CarVisionLA the issue I had with the video was how vague your criticisms was and how easy it was to tell you didn’t know what you were talking about. Yeah, the paddle shifters are slow compared to a 60,000 car, what a surprise. And yeah, you actually have to have revs for the car to produce power, like in every other car. Also, this new Camaro, even the v6, has been praised for its incredible handling by experienced reviewers, some thing you said was garbage in this car. Also, it probably denied your shifts cuz you tried to go into first gear at 60 mph or something stupid like that, since you don’t know how to use a car

I had a 2017 Camaro RS with the 3.6L v6 for 2 and a half years. Not only was it a completely perfect daily driver but it has been on several multi hundred mile road trips with no issues whatsoever and I even lived in the city for some of my ownership. The price/performance ratio is undeniably the best on the market. No steering problems, blind spots weren’t an issue if you knew how to use mirrors and look over your shoulder, enough luggage space etc. btw, the seats in the back aren’t supposed to be practical, they’re so this car can be listed as a 4 seater coupe so insurance isn’t out the ass compared to a 2 seater like the corvette. What I’m trying to say is that this is a phenomenal car and the reason why I’m picking up my manual LT1 RS this week. People, if you have been on the fence about buying this car, let me give you two words of advise. Buy it.

I don't own a V6 Camaro but what the fuck is this lol? The car runs 0-60 in 5.0-5.3 which is the exact same numbers as the 2010 Mustang GT's. The standard verison with performance exhaust is phenomenal, the price per performance off the lot is better than the ecoboost, better than the FRS/BRZ, better than both versions of the mustangs (ecoboost, v6) The car runs respectable times and is upwards to 10,000-15,000$ more cheaper with the same package options compared to the SS, lower insurance rates, and better on gas. The car will throw you into the back of the seat if you pin it, it's faster then every single V8 options circa 2010 and below on most cars. Give the car some respect man. The SS is better, it will blow this car out of the water, but for price to performance ratio and for overall fun it's a fine choice.

@@mikasafigueroa3926 The entire reason to get this or a V6 Mustang used is because it has more power and no turbo lag when you are using a manual transmission. The GM automatic is a typical sluggish box of rubber bands. 6 Speeds with a shorter rear end and limited slip diff? Now you're talking. Go test a V6 with manual and be amazed at how much the automatic is ruining the whole thing.

I was very shocked when i first ever drove a camaro. Im a mopar guy so let me break down my experience. I couldnt see crap. It was pretty tight but was ok in terms of front leg room. Compared to the charger and challenger, it was a pretty small car that you have to bend down some to fit in. What really suprised me tho was i was testing the v6 and it pulled lile the rt 345 hemis of the chargers and challengers - while doing it with 2 less cylinders and with better fuel economy. Thats what really suprised me about the car that i wasn't ready for. Not to mention the stout styling of the newer camaros. They just look like a car for speed, aerodynamics, and just to dominate. I have heard problems with gm cars when it comes to paint being very thin and weak, the transmissions breaking, and the impracticality of the camaro as a daily in terms of space, visability, etc. But im not gonna lie. As ugly as the 2020 front end of the camaro is, in black with the daytime running lights on, it just looks so aggressive and angry like venom. The camaro is definitely on my list

Exactly. I was wondering how far I'd have to scroll through comments to come across your comment. All this time I thought the seat frame and the design was what made a difference on my comfort. I've driven many, many sports cars in my time and many were so uncomfortable that my back hurt if driving for a long time. I could've just gotten a real leather seat cover and saved my back from pain. The shit people post is absolutely unbelievable sometimes.

@DubNationTrickshots
@DubNationTrickshots Жыл бұрын
No one will read this, but I am posting anyway. I appreciate your honesty and point of view. I will agree with I think your biggest point, the 8 speed auto is NOT the way to go. The car doesn't even get a chance until you get a manual. But when you have that manual, you end up shifting at 7,000 RPM instead of 6,800 or wherever it is with the auto. Doesn't sound like a big difference, until you hear it. I have daily driven my 2017 V6 manual Camaro RS for nearly a year and a half now. Visibility is terrible, but I know exactly were all the cars are around me at all times. The V6 lacks low end torque (there is none), but it is thrilling, alive, and eager at the top end. Yes, 8 gears is too many, so get the 6 speed. I have driven a C8 stingray, 2015 Porsche Boxster, 2020 Mazda Miata, and more. My point with this is that the V6 camaro is just as thrilling on a back road. It is nimble where it should be, quick when you want it to be, and still outruns any similarly priced cars. Not to mention I outran the Boxster from a standstill. So yes, Chevy's $27k Camaro beats Porsche's $45k Boxster.

overall a pretty negative review on a great car. However I agree on one point and that is the poor throttle response tuning with the A8, which is what is responsible for the "lag" you noticed. There is a whole discussion around this problem, and for some the answer has been a pedal throttle booster unit that increases the voltage coming from the pedal. It pretty much solves the issue from the perspective of the pedal. And an aftermarket tune can fix a lot of the rest of it. The problem is, you're expecting too much. It's a base model V6 Camaro. It's made for people who want a fast, fun car for the street and don't want to spend a ton of money. The tuning is done with an eye towards fuel mileage, not performance. I agree, people who are into performance shouldn't have to deal with these issues, but thats reality. I had to buy an aftermarket "skip shift eliminator" for my SS 1LE. It's fairly routine to have to do aftermarket mods to unleash the true potential of any car, especially budget high volume sports cars. I think you just don't know very much about the car, or its community. The LGX is a bullet proof engine that loves to rev high and I did not see you really working this engine in the slightest. There are huge number of people out there having great fun in this car. I think the biggest problem is you got an A8 and, for someone who is a performance enthusiast, the A8 in a base car just isn't going to cut it. The manual mode shifts are extremely slow. However, what you don't know, is that in the SS's track mode, the A8 is absolutely awesome. I've tracked it and the shift points are spot on, it holds gears appropriately, up and down shifts precisely when necessary, and never bogs down ever. But to know that you'd have to drive an SS with track mode with the A8, which you did not. Anyway, most of your complaints are about the A8 and many of your points are valid. But I do think you're being a bit harsh. The A8 is better than you think it is. But the 10 speed is WAY better than the 8.

I've got a fully loaded Camaro with leather and a sun roof and several mods to make it even better and I'm not stopping at every gas station I pass and not buying 2 sets of tires every year either. It's got all the power I need. The problem with these young reviewers is they're all about the power and the ability to go 150mph all the time. Appreciate what you have, treat it right and you'll have it a long time. Chevy knows this but the young crowd can't grasp it. It comes with experience.

335hp, 157mph top speed, mid 13s quarter mile, 3277 lbs, 8 or 10 speed automatic available, 4.9s-5.1s zero to 60mph. Sounds like a 3.0 F-Type. Matt Maran actually said that in his review, along with most professionals. It's a DOHC, high compression, four cam phasers.....it loves to rev out. It's on every top 10 fastest naturally aspirated V6 lists. Faster than an RT challenger. You know what else has these numbers? A 370z, and a gen 1 coyote mustang (have one). I fear that you missed the mark and that's ok. We live and learn. My wife drives the 2018 Camaro V6 and has a few extras like e85, 10 speed swap, and ya know.... forced induction by way of Edelbrock. You know what's fun? Having a 467 hp v6 camaro that makes the car community turn their heads sideways, not knowing why it sounds that way. It's fun blowing around a V8 sports car and just above all else, it's fun to have something different dude.

CarVision my family is the only reason I have to get an automatic. When I go to college my parents do not allow us to bring our cars for the first year. This is for us to know who our real friends are since people use you for rides and such. So when my car is at home for the first year my parents want to drive it and I quote my father "I'm to old for the work of a manual." I disagree with his opinion but he is the one buying it so I can not force him. Also even though my parents gave me a budget of 45k they refuse to let me get a v8. They say it is because of the high price of gas. They also only allow my siblings and I to get premium gas. I love them but they are far to traditional in their views. Yet I cant get mad since many people dont even get a car close to what they dream of.

I've owned a 18 3.6 for just about a year now. Some of what you're saying is true. But the parts that got me is when you "got into the back seat" yes, I do agree there is no foot room back there, but you shouldn't have struggled so much I am much bigger than you and I have an easier time. Also, the remarked you made about the Hoursepower from personal experience my v6 has been able to keep up with v8 chargers off the line. to abt 25-30 where we obviously fall off. "Only off the line not in a roll or anything else". When you said there was a delay in power you need to realize that it is a v6 and since your used to driving v8 it would feel very unresponsive "I also just hate at 4:06 when you say it doesn't handle like the ss or zl1 which proves your judging this car from a bias of a v8. the ss and zl1 trims are equipped with better suspension brakes and computer Sofware. Witch you seem to forget when reviewing this v6 version" Also points I do agree on is the rv camara it is indeed bad. But with regards to the "blind spots" there Arnt really any if you know how to drive a car and move your head you seem to cry abt having to move your head witch I find funny. oh, I haft to move my head how dare they but if you daily the car for abt a month Yll be able to see everything with no issue it seems you just like to be complaining for that one. also, I agree when you say the paddles suck, they do I hate everything abt them. I also don't like the 8 speed it's too much for a car that has a gov of 130. The seat do kind of suck at least the cloth ones. Final thought about your review you seem to have gone into that with the mindset of a v8 and a total hate for 3.6 Camaros I know most features on a 3.6 Camaros need improvement. But a review shouldn't have a bias it should be a catalog of the goods and bads of the car not the pros and cons to the v8 brother. Tbh I would hate anyone to watch this video and decide not to buy a Camaro, because it was a 8 min psa of you complain abt everything possible. please fill free to give your thoughts

I don't have a strong opinion on the Camaro (except to say that a car with blind spots like that is a straight-up menace to society). I just liked your review. I get so sick and tired of seeing car reviews that don't actually seem to give a damn about whether or not the vehicle is good, the reviewers just want to get as many page hits as possible. That applies all the way from Top Gear to a new KZbinr who just picked up an old BMW. Very few people seem to care if the cars are good. The only people who seem to be trying to actually review cars are Doug Demuro, The Fast Lane Truck, and... that's about it. You genuinely don't seem to understand all of the reasons the Camaro is the way that it is (it has an 8 speed for gas mileage, dude) but at least you're willing to take a strong position. More people could learn from that.

Nice seeing a video on the v6, and mostly well done but a couple of points: - 8 speed, why? because it is an auto and there are a lot of advantages of having 8 speed on an auto and of course once you try to shift it yourself, you will be left with an awkward sight with all 8 speeds available, that is given. Brace yourself, there is a 10 speed coming! - Shift denied: The engine denies shift in order to limit you screwing with the transmission and getting it out of use. It shouldn't let you donwshift to say 2nd or 1rst if the rpms are going to be out of the safe range! I have had experience with my previous 1ss denying shifts. - Suspension: Having owned a 5th gen to the 6th gen, it litterally saw it as day and night. I always take trips (long windy road trips) with my car and as much as I hate saying this, the 5th gen felt like a flipping boat, I could feel its limit when turning and had to back off very fast, the 6th gen (and that includes the v6) is a piece of history on that end, sharing the cadillac frame, the suspension is the best out of the 2 other competitors and some much higher priced cars (I have a couple of windy roads races that show that the limit the camaro can approch with that suspension is much higher than some bmws). - Now regarding the manual shifts, yes it is a mess and that is one of the reasons why I went for an actual manual car instead of trying to have a automatic car with paddles that shifts a sec or half a sec after you want it to do so: messes up with when you are actually trying to have some real fun unless you give yourself some time to get use to it. Anyhow I thought I would give my 2 cents. Cheers

Thanks for your input. Those were all valid points. I am a huge fan of the V8 Camaro like the 1ss and ZL1 1LE. The purpose of this review was to show that the V6 Camaro doesn't perform like a Camaro is supposed to. I understand what you were saying about the transmission but it was denying shifts even at lower speeds like when I was in 4th going 40 and wanted to downshift to 2nd to overtake someone. Maybe the 10 speed will be improved but I'd still stick to a manual.
@somdaarnaud
@somdaarnaud 7 жыл бұрын
no problem, I still do believe it is worth its price. Don't get me wrong, it is one thing to have a v8 but let us not compare apples and oranges, the v6 is plenty of car for its price and tech package that it offers compared to the competition I think. I also think that both trims share the same parts besides the engine unless you upgrade to the magnetic ride which changes the way the suspension behaves, ie: I am not sure what you mean by "the V6 Camaro doesn't perform like a Camaro is supposed to", would it be related to the power it gives or the ride quality or something else? Don't take it the wrong way, I don't have the v6 but the 1le 1ss so I am merely trying to understand your point as I haven't seen anyone yet anywhere else put the v6 out of the competition when it seems it should be a step up from the last generation.

You sound like a liberal! First off could you try to get in the back seat in any worse of a way. Second the cloth seats are great and have great adjustability. Visibility is overrated. Handling is great. The way you paddle shifted was wrong, seemed like you expected v8 power from a v6 engine. That was a horrible review, all you did was bash it. It may not be perfect but it's know where near as bad as you say it is. Erase your channel!

Here’s a comment from the future. V8 6th gen are running about $40-50k while the v6 are from $24-$30k Monet plays a big factor until all but also selection within 100 miles from where I live no blue v8 could be found and I look at my car so color is important this has been my dream platform since the early 2010 and the four cylinders lack of power drive me to the v6 mind you I found one with all the upgrades except for a sun roof and let me tell you I’m smitten. The luxuries you get with the Camaro vs a non premium mustang or a stock v6 challenger is just amazing. I’m comparing these because they are similar in price for each respective platform. The mustang to me felt cheap and not well built while the challenger felt far too slow for the price it was demanding with nothing of quality to redeem it. So Camaro I went. I love it and will drive it till me or it dies (hopefully me first lol). Great review though from a sports perspective next time let’s get you a stock vs upgraded one

Opinionated review. I own the '17 v6 with a 6 speed mt. I love it. GM wanted $10k more for a v8 alone and to me I'd rather invest that $10k for a '68 Camaro in ten years. Do some more research too, I was a car length behind an old Camaro 383 stroker up to 90 mph...hp to weight ratio the v6 is quite nimble.

If you want a race car buy the ZL1 or the ZR1 even the SS is very fast my Corvette will land you in jail and so will my Camaro because they will all go over 100mph and in most states you will lose your car and license if caught doing it. My opinion no matter what engine you get these new Camaros are off the hook just love is all I have for it, I will keep it in my collection for ever I will never sell it I have a Boss Hoss V8 Trike which is super fast with 425hp 3 speed turbo 350 automatic and weighs in at 1500lbs 0 to 60 in 3 seconds and the Camaro came with a life time power Tran warranty which some dealers are offering now it just doesn't get any better buy one you will love it but buy the 2lt the others are just not there like the one he's driving no way its a stripper get them loaded or stay home.

I prefer the 5th Generation versions of the 3.6L V-6 Camaro. That's why I bough a 2015. Also, I only paid 14,200.00 not 33K for a car with 35K miles on it. I agree on the 8 speed transmission too. I prefer the 6 speed and 8 gears are just too many gears for a lower powered sporty car (Why 2 highway gears when the 6th gear works just fine?). Also, there is not as much delay on the acceleration. Still, the 2017 looks really nice and I have the bright yellow as well in my 2015. Overall, the 2017 is a nice looking car, and still performs from what i could see. I don't have the rear camera, and that seems like a great idea in a hard to see out of car. More things are the same with the 2017 and 2015 than different, so I could like both of these cars overall. The problems were pointed out in this video, and maybe not enough of the advantages and good things because there are many. I really do like both versions of these cars. So, nice review, and thanks for sharing my friend.

Thank you for understanding. My job as an automotive journalist is to honestly and objectively evaluate cars, and that was exactly what I was doing. I know many people, especially the owners, would not like my opinion, but it was what I concluded after extensive testing of this vehicle. I had to drive all the way across LA to pick up the car and then sit in traffic on the way back. The total trip was over an hour. The seats are fine for short drives but can get annoying after awhile.

You're in L.A., huh? I'm sorry! LOL. I was born and lived my first 55 years in San Francisco and on the SF Peninsula. Traffic there isn't as bad as LA, but I hated it. I now live in a pretty small town in Southern Oregon and our BIG traffic problems here are like driving around in the Bay Area at 10 o'clock at night. SO, when you're old enough to retire...think about living in a small town. ;-) Better for the blood pressure. As much as I love social media, I hate it equally. Don't people realize that all of our opinions differ? Chevy seems to be appealing to the masses with the Camaro and for some, it fits their lifestyle and it's a bad ass looking car. Even though, there is something a bit more "feminine" (can't think of a better word) in the newest gen. If a person buys a V6 or one of the 4cylinder models, they should be expecting everything but performance. Dodge has a way of enticing people with their V6 Charger and Challenger, and almost like a horsepower drug lures many buyers into buying one of their V8s. The Camaro is no different. If you want performance though, the SS V8 is the only way to go. Not that we all go to the track with our performance cars, so of us just like the thrill of driving them. I think it's awesome that Chevy and Dodge and Ford offers a choice within these models to own a car that suits all of our needs.

As the $1,950 RS package is/was an optional extra it is neither here nor there really, folks either think the RS package is VFM, and/or something desirable that they want or not. The Current 2020 V6 model with 10-speed automatic is as far away from being a complete waste of money as you can almost get. IF you shop around and go for the base trim V6 auto, that can be had for under $25k, CarGurus website reveal page after page of new V6's to be had for low $20k's to mid $25k. How can that be a waste of money?, far from it, that is VFM. One of the best $20k to $30k VFM cars you can get, if now GM lets you have one. Not everyone can live in a low cost gas State. Hence they all can't afford a V8. The V6 gives better MPG than the V8 Camaro and can run on 87 octane regular gas rather than premium gas. THAT IS AN IMPORTANT THING. The difference in cost between Regular and Premium, the average US national difference is 23% In a high fuel cost state like California where the avg cost of a gallon of Premium gasoline is $4.30 why would anyone get a V8 with abounding performance then have to curtail that by being put off in driving it due to those unpleasant feelings they get when visiting a gas station. It is a performance car, that can be had for a bargain price in the V6 package, that gives better MPG than a V8 and despite all the brainwashing that has gone on the V6 has 'even better fuel economy' than the 2.0l turbo Camaro because it runs very well on 87 octane regular gas saving folks an average of 23% on their fuel. Do you see. INSTEAD of the Turbo's premium gas costs, that no one wants to factor in. Bit like the old State Sales tax, left out of the equation, right up to having to hand over the cash. In most of US states, the majority of US States the V6 costs 'less' to run fuel wise than a 2.0l turbo, let us put the previously believed brainwashing fallacy of the turbo being more fuel cost efficient to bed right now. Some entities and some folks have been fooling you. Only in some States with a narrower difference in regular and premium gas prices is the turbo slightly more fuel cost efficient. Best to do some real good research before buying any car, weigh it all up as independently objective as you can. You could even imagine you are getting a new car for someone almost like you, not actually you but someone similar, what car would you get them. You can also consult knowledgeable acquaintances of yours, ones with a full amount of intellect, (that may narrow it down a bit!) ask them what they think is best, give them time to ponder the request, to even make notes and carefully consider what they have to say. Prior to the current Nov 2019 Hold GM have placed on the Camaro V6 they were advertised in the low $20k's to mid $25k price point, a new one with 10-speed automatic in base trim. Now after GM tweaks & fixes the emissions problem, they may well be able to be had even cheaper, worth checking out!. Cheaper initial cost, cheaper insurance, servicing costs, fuel costs, we only need another big spike in World oil costs and the V8 even with its better performance won't seem so desirable then. BTW the 335hp figures for the V6 was SAE certified using Regular gas, many folks didn't know for sure of that, we may expect these tests to be performed on Premium, but not all of them are. The Camaro 2.0l turbo's and V8's performance tests were performed using premium, show me the SAE certified figures for those latter two running regular gas. Even placed on a dyno, It won't be so nice will it, hardly the the cars fault we know, some being optimised for a certain grade. it can be better though to get a car optimised for 87 regular, saves a lot of money, some folks are not too bothered, they may not factor it all in, all 3 variants of the Camaro are decent enough in their own way though as long as people have the right one for them and they're comfortable with the car. A V6 Camaro is something someone can pick up new for a VFM price, get some enjoyment out of it, saving money, money they can put away should they want towards a C8 Corvette. Which ok may well go up in price by the time they get around to getting one, but so will its refinements as well, that LT2 engine has 10hp or so each model year to be added to keep the car buyer sweet with the price increases. The LT2 engine was not at its ball stretching limit straight away, GM factored in incremental gains over 3 or 4 years. To a power nut a 530hp C8 will always be craved after more than a 490hp one. Best time to get a V6 Camaro is when this Nov 2019 GM hold on V6's gets lifted, mosey on around to your Chevy dealer then, be cheeky putting them in a disadvantageous position and mention the emissions thing, and get yourselves a bargain, no matter what anyone else says a V6 could well be a better suited Camaro for you. Maybe not the best Camaro to get, ball busting power wise, but then who said Camaro's were the best car to get in the first place as good as they are. If you are in the market for a new Chevrolet soon, just have to have one, I would shop around for a V6 10-speed auto in base trim with nothing else, you might be lucky, if you can fulfil the incentive requirements to walk away with one incl the US national average of just over 8% State sales tax and all the other fluff for $25k cash. A new non Z51 pack C8 Corvette inc avg National State Sales tax and all of it would be nearer $65k. After getting a V6 Camaro, if you do, you may wonder as good as the C8 is, is it really worth another $40k more. If you think it is you'll be in a better position, by way of lesser running costs than a V8 Camaro to save up and get one.
