I love your reviews Mat but about A4 looking like an old A4 because many makers these days don't change much for example Jaguar , BMW 3 , 1, 5 series hasn't changed since 2007 , some of Mercedes cars haven't changed much either many car makers including Porsche . And we gonna see this more in lots of car companies so its not just A4 in this video but 3 series looks the same as the 2007 generation and the next jaguar I can bet it won't be too different from this one even C Class . And the fake exhaust on Audi and Benz its a matter of time before other manufacturers start doing it too . I personally think its more of decoration so we should get used to it same as touchscreen infotainment we will get used to it as we are all now used to our touchscreen phone . So there is no point criticizing coz most manufacturers will start producing touchscreen infotainment.

It wouldn't look so bad if the frame wasn't so wide. If the screen went to the edges of the frame like the BMW and the Audi it would look much better. That being said I also think the Audi is the best looking.

The higher end infotainment system in the C class makes the display larger with smaller bezels, looks very nice although doesn't come too cheap, screen is also glass and flush with the edge unlike the base model system (if I remember right)

Audi is a great quality brand and always has been. Audi is Totally under-rated. I'm glad it's the winner here as is well deserved. Audi owners never have to shout about how good they are. If you've owned an Audi, you just know. Audi owners /fans are never as vocally aggressive as the BMW owners/fans on KZbin yet enjoy great German engineering and quality. I know I'm vocal about Audi on here but that makes me one of a kind. For different reasons, it's Audi or Mercedes for me.

Alex G idk I would agree comparing an e class or s class to an a6 or a8. But when I compared the a4 and c class the, the interior of the a4 just stole my eye. I think the c class should have styling like the s and e class interior. But then again I have been seeing the class interior since 2015 so I might be biased.

***** Having driven every single one of these, the chassis is really good on the xe, but the powertrain and transmission tuning do not compare to the bmw's. Plus BMW adaptive suspension is much more compliant in comfort mode than the jag's. The mercedes would have a better interior than the audi if the infotainment and navigation screen didn't suck so bad, the audi wins on technology alone.

Well, you can still kick out the tail if it's equipped with "Quattro". And besides, these aren't really meant to be the type of car that rips it's tires to shreds like a BMW (although that is also pretty damn fun). They are about munching down those miles like nothing else. That, and being super stable at high speeds. It just comes down to personal preference in that regard :)

Hello! 6 years! Do u still have it? I've had a B9 A4 for a year and it's been pretty good. AC Condensor leaked but that's been fixed under warranty. Perfectly reasonable car for the money and I'm not complaining. Although I've only had it for a year, hope it stays like this :)

Excellent review - great work Matt and the team. I test drove all these cars recently and there's very little to separate them. It'll come down to price and personal choice at the end of the day. For me: 1 BMW - Fun sporty drivers' car but also practical, comfortable and classy. 2 Audi - More of a limo than the BMW. Practical, refined, beautiful interior. 3 Jaguar - fantastic driving dynamics. Contrived and awkward interior. 4 Mercedes - comfortable drive but garish interior that's cramped in the back.

To the Audi haters, who pretend to know about cars, but clearly don't. Here is a lesson.....There is no denying that the A4 is a VW group car. So is Porsche, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Bentley and Skoda! The A4 doesn't share its underpinnings with the Passat however. The Passat shares its underpinnings with the golf. The A4 chassis is Audi only. This new A4 shares its platform with the Q7. The engine is mounted longitudinally which is the traditional Audi way. It also allows for the Torsen based Quattro system which is pure Audi, not VW Passat. Pure Audi is a nose heavy, longitudally engined vehicle with all wheel drive and the best interior in the business.

I'm not surprised at all. Back in the day, when German build quality meant something people were either shit rich or saved up and BOUGHT their Mercedes, nowadays people lease them. Hence the drop in quality and abundance of shitty 2 litre diesels. In a world of credit addicts and low fiscal discipline, we get the cars we deserve.

On the A6 it's covered except for the roof of the the boot as its exposed but that doesn't need to be covered up as there are sub-woofers above and that would affect them, with Audi they do make it less obvious as you actually have to look at the top to see it

First and foremost I must comment on the 2.0 liter disels. They are absolutely wonderful engines for the most time, I have the 2.0 TDI engine in my Audi and for a daily I would´t want to have anything else. Its economical, rather friendly to the environment and cheap to tax. Chatta290 I have the B&O system in my car so I also have a woofer there, but it could still easily be covered up a bit better without affecting the woofer. Since it is and Audi you really have to lay in the trunk to actually see the bare metal so thats a plus I guess.

Viktor Jakobsson yes maybe they could but thankfully compared to other cars you have to look up to see it as other cars don't cover it also you can sometimes see the exposed bodywork on the bot hing itself but on the aid a 6 the cover it in plastic, the do try their best to cover it whereas jaguars tends to look like its falling apart, i wen ti a £100,000 jaguar xj it was a 16 plate with only 100 miles and the front seat form the back had a oddly shaped thing covering the bottom electronics it looked so bad they are just poorly made

I always hated how these cars in this segment keep getting larger. I always saw them as 'compact executive saloons', not 5 person family hauler; you buy a Passat or Mondeo for that. If you want premium amenities, step one level up for a A6, E-class, XF or 5-series. I give the nod in this comparison to the XE then C-class. The A4 is great, but IMO lacks personality. The 3 series has been ruined by the people that sell them & drive them; never before I've met such crude individuals all driving one brand & model of cars.

I've always maintained that if it is SPORT you are after, a BMW is your best bet and if it is LUXURY you are after, a Mercedes is your best bet. However, if you want something which lies in-between which also holds more practicality, an Audi is your car. But you have to be careful, in my country (South Africa), resale values for Mercedes are the highest of the bunch, followed by BMW and Audi. So you have to weigh your options quite carefully. Quite frankly, Jaguar is an alternative premium/ luxury brand for us.

Choice of looks is a matter of personal preference. Practicality matters most to me. Looks follow second. The A4, 3seies and C Class are tried and tested and so I expect similar engine quality and durability. The XE is fairly new and so it may be too early to judge it. Speed is a less distinguishing factor as it largely depends on engine size and in any case daily commutes hardly require the excess power capacities that all models possess.

LOL BMW and Jag look terrible, the Audi and Benz have very sharp exterior, aggressive and attractive front, not to mention the 2 have best interiors. For me Audi 4 is the best family or single car. Audi=pure class

I have the 2017 jaguar xe with the supercharger v6. I got the jaguar because at least here in the United States you don't see many jaguars. everyone and they momma's have a Audi A4 or BMW 3 series or Mercedes c class. I see them everywhere! And normally when you buy a car you see it alot. But that hasn't been the case with the jaguar they are not as common. I hate having a car everyone has its annoying to me.

I have both the A4 and the jag 35t. The Audi has a much better interior but the jag has a better motor. Overall the audi makes a better vehicle. BUT the jag is more fun

Joking about Audi's design evolution as how it's the same car, it looks like a facelift etc. is becoming more stupid with time. You can clearly distinguish anold A4 from a new A4 same with all other Audi models. If you look at the 3-series, it's pretty much the same amount of evolution as the A4 from their older designs. Same with the R8, when I hear a reviewer say "It's almost the same design, you can't separate them", that's the most stupid thing you could say as the cars don't have anything in common in design. They don't even have the same silhouette anymore. So yeah, if really can't distinguish older vs newer generations of Audi, then you don't know shit about cars. And let's not talk about Mercedes-Benz which have made the C,E and S-class the almost identical design just in different sizes. Same with their SUVs.

Jag = overpriced Mondeo ... nowhere near the other 3 and it will leave with a crap residual value on resale, unlike the Germans. Audi = the middle road, but so boring on the outside...even the S line doesn't' really buy any attention. To be honest I would rather like an A3 Saloon than this one. BMW = my choice...if it wasn't for the lack of power and character of the 318i compared to a C 180 - 30 hp and one cylinder difference. C class = perfect...if it wasn't for that bloody ugly iPad. Hard choice...I think I'll go for the A3 saloon or a BMW ... just not that 318i.

great review, keep up the great work. i cant help but think that the jag is outclassed in this company, and i guess i would expect a similar comparison if the review were located in america, there would be something homegrown to take on the germans, cadillac perhaps. maybe its just the token sacrificial lamb. sure the jag drives nice, but getting back to reality, and not doing 100mph powerslides, everyone is stuck in gridlock these days and have families to ferry around and all that, so the practicalities of the audi shine here in my view. love the merc, but it seems to be about 80% of what the audi is. the bmw is nice and almost hits the mark but i think the audi is the superior product here.
