We’ve brought together two classic M3s, and they’re going up an M2 Competition! Mat’s sat in the E46, which will put down 340hp & 365Nm thanks to a 3.2-litre straight-six under the bonnet. As for the E36, its 3-litre straight-six engine helps push it to 300hp (thanks in part to some modifications cameraman Jack's added) and 320Nm.
As for the M2 Competition, well it’s clearly the most powerful competitor here, with a 3-litre straight-six twin-turbo 410hp & 550Nm! But what do you think - will the lighter E36 have what it takes? The E46 M3 still holds up well today. It's a drivers car and still puts a smile on my face every time I drive mine. I don't have to be the fastest car on the road, but I know that there is something special about owning one and being able to enjoy every moment behind the steering wheel.

E46 is a brilliant car, no question, but I like my E36. For me, while the 46 is a better sports car, the 36 is a better car to live with every day. After 13 years of ownership, It still thrills me every time I drive it. TBH I was quite pleased how well it stood up in the drag race, but I think mine would have been closer. For one thing, mine doesn't smoke when you rev it.... just saying

Sure, the engine sound was incredible, the diff magic, and of course it looks really nice. However, when driving normally it felt like any other E46 to me, and the throttle pedal had an annoying lag at the top of it. Not for me.

jame conradi , glad you enjoyed them. For me after the E34 m5 is was a massive disappointment. I then got an e39 m5, which is the best car overall I have ever owned. However the e34, last of the hand built ones, still was the dogs dangly bits. IMHO

My opinion: E30: Oldschool charme E36: worse E46 E46: timeless piece of art E92: German Muscle F82: German Engineering at it's best. G82: The ugly one nobody likes. Btw, the E36 is a great car in my opinion, but it just isn't as good as the E46.. and it's basically the same price, less reliable and it looks like a 328i with M-Package.

That E46 is still a thing of curvaceous, understated beauty. And, considering it is now a 20 year old model, still fast! An attractive, flawed diamond of a car. I like the E36 too although that ricer exhaust and silly spoiler do spoil it. The M2 is worthy successor to the M3. The new M4 is far too big, bloated and ugly to be a true successor even if it does have hundreds of bhp more.
