Brushless electric motors have been around for ages and aren’t that complex either. Also there’s no excuse for that interior for a car that’s 60k. This car is ok, there’s nothing wrong with it. Complaining about the lack of a frunk/froot is a bit silly considering how snub-nosed the ID cars are. Rather than having a massive half-empty engine bay (and filling it with a tiny storage area not useful for more than cables) they made the front as short as possible, thus freeing up much more interior space. THIS is how EVs should be designed, they don't need ICE-sized fronts.

I have owned the same car for 3 years and it has averaged 33 mpg. He DOES take bribes from manufacturers, and it is blatant. I will never trust any of his reviews....ever. Anything that is 'Go right ahead and buy it' is probably a fake review. I test drove 5 cars and also the ID.4 and the ID5. When I drove the ID.5 it blew all the rest out of the water...it was the easiest and most comfortable car to drive, the driving position is high - as good as the Kia Sportage. These Moto Journos are quite dim. If you spec and ID.4 up to the battery and trim of an ID.5....they cost the same. But these lazy journos just use the one copy and quite that.

I would say those door handles would be among the 5 things I hated about the ID4 - the button response is temperamental which drives you round the twist after a very short time. I rented an ID4 for a weekend about a month ago to drive my son to University. My son got so frustrated with it I thought he was going to try to rip the door off of it's hinges at one point (and we only rented the car for 3 days). The design of the interior door handles is also flawed. Somehow 3 of us managed to get the skin on our hands pinched by them on a few occasions while opening the doors. If it was just one of us, I wouldn't have thought anything about it, but 3 different people with 3 different hand sizes, screams that something isn't right. Otherwise, agree on the other points in the 5 things to hate - the touch sensitive buttons all over the place were a general annoyance, and borderline dangerous on the steering wheel. All in all, a bit of a shame really as it spoils an otherwise good car. I came away with a list of 6 or 7 regular irritations from the weekend (all of which seem to still be in place for the ID5) and went and tried the Skoda Enyaq 80x. Not one of the irritations could be found in the skoda - (mechanical operation door handles on the outside, physical buttons on the steering wheel etc.) - so I subsequently ordered one 🙂

Hey Matt, could you review the MG ZS EV Trophy Long Range? It's one of the most popular cars and is being sold fast right now. It's one of those that's actually 'available to buy' with wait times under 4 months rather than waiting 12+ months for the newer more expensive EVs. I hope you can pick this one up. It's always amazing to see your 'practical reviews'. Cheers! ☺️

Just read an article saying VW group cars top the list for random software / electronic glitches and lock ups. Software development obviously doesn’t come easy for them. Honestly, I’m stuck. I want a car like this. The Tesla Model Y is the best tech wise, but I find the ride really uncomfortable. I don’t think I can live with it. VW Group cars have serious software issues. Kia EV6 doesn’t feel right from the drivers seat. Toyota Brzx2y or whatever its called, doesn’t have a frunk nor a glovebox. More importantly its been subject to a massive recall and it feels like a rushed product. I just checked it out in the showroom, its really unappealing. No clever touches at all. If feels like they’ve gone, how can we get a car out in half the time? ARGH! Last hope is that the Nissan Ariya doesn’t have any deal breakers.

3 years on with my Tiguan and still several electronic glitches and of course they check it = nothing found every time…. I just would like my wipers not to work automatically when it’s sunny and not raining and stop only when they want to….

Working for a tier 1 supplier for VW, I can tell you, things like the "rear" window switches are probably not "ideas", well they are, but from the financial department (bill of materials), but the reasoning behind them is to save 0.01$. Now you have 3 buttons, instead of 4 and it's harder to replace ( unique part) :) Not so bad, right, well not great when we get into electrical components.

Does it have a single motor or two? You gave me no relevant specifications that might help make a decision as to whether or not I would purchase on others than the fact it’s too expensive for what it is and has very poor acceleration for an ev. Disappointed with the review I’m sorry to say but happy there is a review on the VW ID5. So thx for that.

This is true and was always true...my Passat GTE has List price of 70k and I bought it for 35k with 13k km only...50% loss in 1.5 years. BUT since the demand for EVs is so high and still the production is low, the price will be more stable the next years.
@pato101112 жыл бұрын
@@josefv-y8m yes you're right. Second hand car prices are very high at the moment. You can't get a second hand ID4 so they will change hands in the dealerships without any advertising required at a high price. I got offer 28k for my 3 year old A1 the other day by the dealership. I bought it for 32k. I'm looking to buy a Q4 and I'd take a second one near list if I could get one but I can't.

Rear window buttons - whilst not great there is a short cut to raise and lower all windows. Hold the rear haptic button until it flashes and then using the button to raise or lower all windows. This short cut works in the Cupra Born (which is under the skin an ID3 and has the same window controls).
@anaymakan69892 жыл бұрын
8:20 i thought the window idea is really clever because my mum when opening her window while driving, she always manages to open the rear window instead so the switch always being the front windows I thought would be pretty neat for her. But honestly it's probably VW cheaping out because they don't want to spend more money on more switches.

The German car makers really seem to be battling with costs 1) VWs used to be the most premium feeling mainstream carmaker now car makers like Kia and the Chinese brands do it better 2) The fact that the glove box fuse box hasn't been moved is such a cheap move which Peugeot used to do. Now Peugeot actually moves it and lines the glove box in material which VW no longer does 3) The screen behind the steering wheel is way too small and even the main screen graphics look poor with very basic looking outdated feeling software What is going on in Germany?
