I have the old style. Pulling away at a round about, it hesitates which is a bit nerve wracking, and most times you just wait for bigger gap. Leg room in the front passenger seat is terrible. In the cold, the handles don't pop out unless you use the remote, and even then some of them don't open, or close.... Low profile tires make a very uncomfortable ride, and usual electrical faults from LR. Depreciation has also been hell. Bought 2nd hand for £44K, 2 years later, 26K. USB devices don't always work, and sometimes, there is a huge delay before the radio, or music starts playing (depending on what mood the car is in!!). DAB signal is terrible compared to other cars in the area. The thing is with all cars, 90% of features work as learned behavior. If you own the car and you use a feature more than a couple of times, you know exactly how to operate it. Therefore there is a lot on inconsistency between reviews of other cars which have been reviewed much more often or used as long term cars where journalists are much more familiar with how they work.
@clairewilson55128 ай бұрын
The review also hasn't been tested correctly. You can use the talk button on your steering wheel and ask it to do something for example set temperature to 20 and it will adjust the temperature for you therefore you don't need to use the screen. If you want to touch the screen you can just slide it up and down depending on how hot or cold you want it. There is also a short cut button on the steering wheel you can set for example heated seats. It's extremely easy to use and the effect of no buttons has been completely over exaggerated !

Agree with the two comments. Sat in one at a dealer getting my 2012 LR4 serviced (no, it wasn't broken, 105k mile standard service) and within 30 minutes I had most functions figured out within the system. While I was a strong supporter of separate temp dials, I actually started to like this system. And I saw the short cut button and was going to configure it for AC but the salesman caught me and politely commented I might not want to do that on the floor model 😂 Anyway, I liked the screen and layout more than I thought I would. The nav screen was really nice - bright, responsive, 3D version was adjustable so you could pull the horizon up or down - nice. Also, the center console armrests slide forward to cover the cup holders, so completely negates that comment.

Disappointed with the direction Land Rover has chosen to take with their future models. No rising gear selector, no electronically tilting dual screens, no 3D effect for the LED tail lights, no physical dials, full touchscreen climate controls, car settings buried deep in the touchscreen and more. This is clear and simple cost cutting by Land Rover. In my personal opinion the Velar has lost its "special" feeling which the original 2017 model exudes in abundance. There are no unique touches, no rotary dials which change based on the menu one is in, no Land Rover badge which opens a hidden cupholder, no screen which can be be adjusted for tilt angle. The sense of occasion has been irrevocably lost. Now it's like any other car, with a huge iPad stuck onto the dash, which apart from being curved is not even integrated properly with the dashboard.

Bring back physical buttons for certain functions where drivers can do some adjustment without taking their eyes off the road. And touch sensitive button is lifeless. Mat did make very good points when he mentioned the driver have responsibility to the passangers.

I rented this car with 3.0d for a week through SIXT Germany. The comfort is Superb. The info system is a little complicated, especially the heating, and AC settings.

I'm with you on getting rid of the rotary controls; they were a high-quality touch point and really easy to use. Ergonomically the new 'human-machine interface' is just worse. But the driver's screen is also really easy to use after a quick read of the handbook.

usb in the rear seats would be awesome. You have a place to keep the cords hidden. No cords stretching across the footwell. The ability to use the short 3' cords phone manufacturers provide. etc. It's a win win....win.

Matt I think i agree, step down cockpit wise and the software powering these entertainment systems must be outsourced to 3rd parties/partners. I can't imagine these systems are tested in house to a standard you'd expect and with the customer and ease of use in mind. Who is testing this stuff, I work as a Software/Testing engineer for a large bank and we'd be shot if we released something so sluggish. Maybe I need to work for the car industry 🤔
@ankushpanja11 ай бұрын
The old infotainment and center console looked way better, manufacturers need to stop this minimalist approach towards everything. There's something satisfying when you have physical controls. The old system was the right balance between physical and touch controls. I hope JLR brings that back or some version of the same when they release the next version. They could've just used the system from Facelifted RR Sport which is pretty good in my opinion.

Probably the thing I hate most in modern cars is the trend of hiding every possible control behind complicated menus on a touchscreen system. If there hasn't been any already, I await the first serious accidents caused by distracted drivers trying to navigate over complicated touchscreens built in to their cars.

I like the velar. When it first came out nope wasn’t a fan. The velar has aged ridiculously well. It now fits in well with the new vogue and sport. Personally I think it should entirely replace the evoque. Good looking cars when they’re not broken on a flat bed.
@stownrow11 ай бұрын
I much prefer the single screen on my new evoque…. So much easier if you just slide up and down on the screen. Also, it’s worth spending £200 on the centre wood effect!
