Yet another solo acoustic instrument demo ! Close miked vocals, small acoustic ensembles etc will sound good and vivid on most systems. If you want a real test try Beethoven's 9th or some complex organ works, even some heavy/prog rock. I find with rock music a good system will reproduce the sound of the original amplification which even includes the original distortion. Try one of the excellent re-masters of Bob Marley's albums and listen for that authentic Jamaican sound system distortion. For me this is what a real Hi Fi is about - reproducing anything you throw at it just like you were there. I am not lucky enough to own these excellent tannoy speakers but having heard them I know they are capable of all these things and more.

Very good observation......I wouldn't heap praise on the Tannoys, not until you have heard some more modern dynamic music on them. I think you would be vastly disappointed with the Tannoys in that musical "environment", as they likely would breakdown...highlighting their low performance.

Yes. More high-end audio equipment should be tested with brick walled heavy metal and compressed for car-radio pop music. Also, if they don't shake the neighbourhood with killer bass, they are rubbish. Can I have a pair?

Im glad at leat they didnt test them with the Dark side of the moon!!! Shit. There s lot of recordings sounding better than the Dark side of the moon. But its a cliche record. I think if theyd test it with some nylon guitar strings performance the warmer the sound. I hate when everything sounds like a metal can.

I sometimes wonder what would SDL characteristics look like if Nirvana 15" Alnico driver SLD characteristic would be placed over top of the 15" Tannoy driver. Something is telling me that there Tannoy would have slightly higher dB readings at low ends (20Hz up) and slightly lower at high frequency end (20kHx down)... I might be wrong. Hence the importance of volume is important...

I’m watching this on my Samsung TV. I’m having trouble finding the sweet spot and getting a nice big soundstage. And if truth be told, the highs appear to be no better on this speaker than they are on my TV that I’m listening to them on

You buy £60K's worth of kit so are unlikely to then get home and play that abject rubbish. That's not a good choice for showcasing hifi but is perhaps for showcasing poor taste! Older Mk1 HPDs and MGs are the only truly time aligned/phase coherent Tannoy loudspeaker drive units I've ever heard. The newer ones just don't sound anywhere near as coherent and what oh what are Tannoy thinking with their recent price hikes? From £23K to £31K in a year or two? Really? Tannoy....you've lost your way. The new ones imho sound dire by comparison with the older ones so most "in the know" for reasons of both cost and sound quality seem to stick with the older DCs. Trouble with the older ones is the cabinets were mostly all badly designed or made so very few people have heard what they're capable of....and that, trust me is stunning (HPDs most especially) with decent crossovers in decent cabinets. They'd put to shame most of the current Tannoy line up.
