Some characters just cannot be performed by anybody else. For Shang Tsung, that is Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and anybody else that plays him in the future, they'll do their best, but it will be difficult for them to top this guy's portrayal. And it really is great that he is still alive and can see what his performance looks like in the finished product.

It was great to have him back for Aftermath. I enjoyed Tagawa's portrayal during the movie, he did a fantastic job, but Aftermath was just Shang Tsung flexing his skills in deception from start to finish, and I honestly don't think it would have been anywhere near as awesome without Tagawa. His voice is like honey with every line he speaks, but you can also hear him silently mocking everyone the whole time. My favorite scene was when he realized that Liu Kang actually played him, he just sounded so delighted by the idea that the honorable Liu Kang would actually play the long game behind his back and Tagawa's delivery was just so good. God bless this man and his glorious talent.

I remember when I watched it as a kid. When the movie started and the logo popped out through the flames and the song started playing with that voice yelling MORAL KOMBAAAAT, the entire room erupted. Everyone started applauding and screaming, something you only see in huge football matches like the finals of world cups etc when a team scores. It wasn't a normal movie experience. I've never seen it in any other movie, be it Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Avenger or anything else, no matter how big the franchise. That moment in that room playing Mortal Kombat, has never been achieved by any other film.
