I remember in one of your old simulations years ago the goal was to move to the right, but there was one creature that was AMAZING at moving to the left (way better than any other creature) but it was excluded because it went the wrong way. I still think about that injustice from time to time 😢

@Spoongangorbit-d1g5 күн бұрын
So true!
@v.deckard10 күн бұрын
Hooray, jelly evolution is finally here! One thing I really like about the Jelly is that it doesn't have a "kill state". In the original simulation, once all nodes hit the ground, the creature is doomed to never move anywhere again, but that can't happen here, which sort of gives all the creatures a chance! I guess there's the inverting of the cells that can hamper it, but never to the point where it's doomed, never to move again. (11:20 oh hi)
@carykh10 күн бұрын
OMG I got a Deckard comment! Yeah, I agree that it's cool how these creatures don't collapse - even when they do invert, there is technically a way to undo that. But also, yay you are in a carykh video officially now 😁

I just tried out the simulation. In mine, every 30 or so generations one creature would take over and become 99% of the population, before falling down and having another one take it's place. It took 181 generations to get 50 centimeters. The final organism used a strategy where it'd expand it's back "foot" then one in the middle, and finally another one in the front.

What a fun and interesting project! I loved it. But it made me thought one thing... In your first generation, the 500th place gelatin walked 17 cms to the wrong direction. If you invert it's cells characteristics with respect to the vertical axis, I assume it would walk to the correct direction. In this way, it would have walked further than your original first place. In that idea, the jellys with negative fitness would be the ones that only move right below the global median or average. And if any jelly move left you just invert it cells. Makes sense to me haha. I wish good luck with your project.

Ah verlet integration. My favourite soft body simulation. Was the first one of, well, just about any kind of simulation method for anything i learned about. And. Still useable. Boneheaded and simple, and many people figure it out just by thinking, how should i do a soft body. But amazingly well behaved. Sometimes explodes but so do any soft body simulation. And. Just a few lines of code can get you most of the way there. I'm just a minute into the video. You haven't told us if you use verlet integration, but unless it's some algorithm that mitigates exploding, that's it. Ah the wobbliness. The best algorithm.

I want to see an evolution simulator where the environment changes after a certain amoint of time - forcing the creature to evolve new traits. It would also be awesome to save creafures to seed new simulations. Take an evolved species, save it, then start two simulations: one where the species must adapt to jumping over obstacles, another where it must adapt to crossing gaps. If you create a diverse set of highly specialized species and have them adapt to the same obstacle separate from one another, we may see some differences in how they evolve- or maybe they converge! I hope that makes sense. It would be amazing to see.
