The whole "Sam is going through his memories" thing. When Death put Sam's soul back he made a wall between all his memories (on hell, on to be soulless) and him. Because if would Sam remembered all it he would go crazy from it. What Cas did was that he broke this wall because he wanted from Bobby and Dean taking care of Sam and don't have any time to handled things with him and Crowley. He thought he do it to protected them and he wanted put the wall back after he solves everything.

People talk about Sam’s breakdown, some talk about Cas being juiced up and being the new God, others are glad Raphael finally got what he had coming, and even fans talk about how his ‘lover’ died, Bobby has worse luck with women than Sam, but for me what really made the episode was Crowley’s spot on ‘Flee or die!’ Cas impression.

Cas destroyed the wall that Death put up in Sam's mind. If you recall from earlier in the season, it was stated that Sam would most likely be a vegetable if his soul was returned to him b/c of all the torture he endured by Lucifer in the cage. Cas also mentioned earlier in the season that Sam would suffer from severe psychic pains if his soul was returned.

Okay so The first Sam was him soulless Then when he killed the girl, he was soulless... The second Sam had remembered hell and every time he killed each Sam.. he got their memories which was all taken behind the wall

16:15 because Cas broke the wall inside Sam's head . That's why he said "I'll save Sam if you stop" The point is to show how far Cas has gone I guess that he would actually hurt Sam.

Cas broke the wall in sams mind that death out there, to try and force them to back down and to just trust him to get the job done, the promise being he will fix Sam if they do stand down. They didn’t, so cas didn’t fix the wall or erase sams memory.

Death put a wall up when he returned Sam’s soul. Cas removed the wall so all the memories would come back and when he said “I’ll save Sam only if you stand down” he meant that as long as Dean doesn’t get in the way that he would fix the wall so Sam would get better. The whole point was so they wouldn’t be trying to stop him as he finishes the plan to open purgatory. The first version of Sam was soulless Sam and he had to remember everything he did. The second was the one from hell.

6:17 no he's soulless Sam... it's a little like disassociative identity disorder. At this point Sam does not have all his memories and he's not "whole" 7:40 again that was Sam without his soul- he didn't care about civilians, he just cared about the job being done

i think the reason cas did that to sam was to distract dean sense he couldnt convince them back off but then bobby made dean realize that thats exactly what cas wanted so they went after him without sam

A lot of people have problems with this season. Sams not in enough of it, Cass' "betrayal" hurt, Samuel sucks, too many plots going on. I love most of this season though, my biggest problem with this season is that Death made them leave Adam in hell. R.I.P.

I still haven't forgiven Cas for breaking the wall in Sam's mind (just to handicap or distract the Winchesters from stopping Cas from getting the souls) and it was ten years ago! No matter what else happened in the rest of the series. To me what he did was unforgiveable.
