If you are looking for a hike that captures all of what Grand Teton National Park has to offer then look no further than the hike from Jenny Lake through Cascade Canyon to Icefloe Lake. Icefloe Lake has the distinguished honor of being the highest alpine lake in the park. This extremely long hike begins in Jackson Hole at the Jenny Lake Visitor Center and meanders through Cascade Canyon and continues all the way to the Idaho side of the Teton Range. Icefloe Lake sits on the west side of the Teton Range below the Middle Teton. This route take you through all of Cascade Canyon and then branches off to the South Fork. Eventually, hoping onto some of the Teton Crest Trail as well. Nonstop incredible views accompanies anyone attempting this all day adventure. Make sure to start as early as possible and bring headlamps as the hike out could be in the dark. Wildlife are almost a guarantee on this Grand Teton National Park classic hike. The hike to Icefloe lake should be categorized as tops in Grand Teton National Park. There are plenty of back country campgrounds to stay at in the South Fork of Cascade Canyon if you want to make it a backpacking trip.

Wow! Love this! Me and a friend did the Cascade Canyon trail hike up to Lake Solitude last July, and we hiked out in the dark with head lamps. We also didn't start until a little after 1 in the afternoon. Didn't think it was too difficult, just long, but I hike a lot, so it was no biggie for me. Incredible scenery and it's one of my favorite trails too! Will definitely have to do this one next time I'm back in the Tetons and get started super early lol!

Thanks Josh! Glad you found the channel! Needless to say we slept in the next morning 🤣. I said “hey bear” for at least an hour straight in the dark once we got back to the Jenny Lake area.

One foot after the other… needless to say we walked out in the dark, saw two grizzlies at dusk. After that all I remember is saying “yeah bear” for 2 hours straight🤣. Emily didn’t or couldn’t talk for longer than that 🤣😂. I had to buy her jewelry in Jackson. Probably the most expensive place to do that, it was worth it 😉

I found your channel somehow, idk how but you are so underrated! You remind me a lot of the Mediocre Amateurs, both underrated quality channels! Also you are a beast for doing this the day after another hike! Seesh! I have never been in that good shape. Even at my fittest, I day hiked Kings Peak in Utah in a day and it absolutely destroyed me.

Thanks Amy! I’m glad you’re watching 😁. That took Emily and me 14+ hours so I suggest backpacking it if you can. Any trail out there in the Tetons are incredible! Right now we enjoy big long day hikes that will push us to our limits. Once we get older we’ll definitely be backpacking and switching things up a bit 👍🏼. Cheers!

Around a couple years ago I switched from all GoPros to a GH5 with a couple amazing lenses. Emily or the kids will use the GoPros when needed. We have 4 more Teton videos coming out over the next few months. Those videos should help you with your trip in September 😁👍🏼. Let me know how it goes, I’d love to know what hikes you decided on!

Hey! I'm a MN transplant but currently living in MT. My fiance and I are planning a trip in early June to Tetons, and I was wondering when this trip of yours was? We are getting snow reports everywhere from too much to summit to everything will be fine. Can you shed any light on this?
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt Жыл бұрын
That was mid September. You will definitely have snow up high in early June. How much snow depends on how much they got over winter and this winter they've gotten a lot of snow so far. Summiting the peaks will be very difficult/dangerous in snow but doable if you have the right equipment. If you're not experienced I wouldn't try it. The canyons will be exploding with waterfalls and the wildlife will be everywhere! Spring would be sick in the Tetons! They might be skiing off of the Middle Teton still in June. There will be snowfields for sure in the higher elevations. Hopefully this helped, let me know if you have any other questions. 👍🏻

Hi Matt, I came across your channel a few weeks ago. Is this video current (as in June 22?) I ask as I'm in Boise and the Sawtooths (which I know you've done) have too much snow still at upper elevations. Curious as to what jackson WY is looking like. Thanks

That video was way back in September. I have seen multiple photos of Jackson Hole and the Tetons and they are experiencing cooler than normal temps and snow this spring as well. I’ve been watching your area very closely as we’ll been in Sun Valley in a few weeks😁👍🏼. Bringing our spikes and ice axes for a few hikes for sure!

First time doing this hike! Is there any special clothes to distract bears?? How is the weather during july??? Thanks for your videos!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏼
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt 2 жыл бұрын
The weather in July will be awesome! You'll probably have amazing waterfalls because of the cool spring and late snow storms out west, lucky! As far as the bears go, make sure you hike with someone slower than you 😉. We bring bear spray when we're in the Tetons. You should be able to buy or rent it in Jackson or possibly the GTNP visitor center. It's a monster hike but incredible the entire way. If I could do it over, I'd backpack it so we could really enjoy it. Challenges are always fun though! Let me know if any other questions pop up😁👍🏻.

@@TheMountainMatt thank u a lot! For the quick response! Im going w a friend planning to do Yellowstone and stopping two days in Teton! Which i saw there are so many hikes😆 since it will be only two days! Which hikes would you recommend!? I mean for the first time 🤣
@TheMountainMatt
@TheMountainMatt 2 жыл бұрын
For sure Cascade Canyon and Delta Lake. You could take Cascade Canyon all the way to Lake Solitude, that's around 16 total miles and 3,000 of elevation. That hike is totally doable in one day. Delta Lake will be crazy busy but it's a bucket list hike. Get up nice and early for that one and beat most of the crowds. If you don't want to deal with crowds try Lake of the Crags. It's a beast but thats what keeps the people away. All of those hike are on Alltrails app. All three of those hikes capture the essence of the Tetons and you can't go wrong with any of them. I'd love to know how it goes👍🏻
