Since adopting a hybrid legato kinda style, my 2 note per string pentatonic approach has had to change quite a bit! I've found this kind of things works well to still fire off pseudo EJ/JoBo kind of lick with minimal right hand effort. It doesn't have the grit and attack, but I think it’s still a cool sound in its own right, and maybe will work for you if (like me) you don't have the right hand control of those goats! Let me know if you have any questions or ideas for future videos, thanks for watching!

I am like a hundred years old... I remember the 1st time I listened to EJ, I absolutely loved the sound and phrasing... but, 2 notes per string picking on pentatonics? nope. not for me. So I've been avoiding it for a millennia... (I laugh when I hear people say "you probably started with the pentatonics" - eh no! lol) I think this will definitely help me out! hahaha Thank you dear Sir!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! What I've noticed for me personally is that the "Cracking The Code" way of doing EJ Fives is tricky for me, because it helped me understand that I'd subconsciously developed a tendency over the years to slant my pick upward (two-way primary upward)...which of course doesn't work for the Yngwie/EJ stuff, but trying to force myself to use DWPS/USX has been really awkward. I knew there was an alternate way to do it but hadn't invested the time to figure it out yet, so thank you for this!
@DavidBeebee
@DavidBeebee Ай бұрын
Thanks glad you enjoyed the video. I did watch the cracking the code stuff yeaaarss ago, but never did sink in and I was already far down the legato rabbit hole that it probably wasn’t worth mentioning spending a whole bunch of time with. I guess the thing to bare in mind is that this is only an approximation, obviously it’s a smoother, less fiery punchy sound than either EJ or JB, but yea thought I’d share for those in a similar position or wanted to try! Thanks for watching :)

WOW Beautiful and seamless playing in the intro!!! Incredible talent!! What a groove!! Thank you so much for such a clear and well articulated explanation of this particular exercise! And specifically the timing aspect of where the notes land... I've had the right hand picking of this 5 note pattern using economy for many years now but (and this is rather embarrassing because it shows terrible maths on my part) I've never REALLY understood how this pattern of 5's actually fell within the beat to sound authentically EJ... watched many videos, but this is by FAR the best and most clear explanation of that mysterious and crucial facet to the exercise... you are a freakin legend for laying it out so clearly man :) Dont know how you count it at the same time as playing it,, proper rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time kinda thing :D
@DavidBeebee
@DavidBeebee 29 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, glad you found the vid helpful! Just to be clear I'm not sure if EJ is counting or feeling it like I am here, sometimes I think the EJ/JB cascading thing is a bit blurry and textural rather than rhythmically specific, but this is just my approach and I think it's a good way to work on odd groupings and subdivisions. Indeed, it's a bit of a rub and pat trick to unravel! Happy practicing!
@andyafi1
@andyafi1 29 күн бұрын
@@DavidBeebee No man thank YOU a million for doing the hard work here for less intuitive people like me! It was exceptionally helpful as a break down..I hear what you say, and I think you're absolutely correct that the EJ/JB approach is often 'textural' and not necessarily 'rhythmically specific' (great descriptors by the way) without deviation,, BUT the results you got by explaining the triplet feel and where each subsequent accent note lies - even just noting that it starts on the 'and' - really gets to the heart of this mysterious 5's pattern that has baffled me for many years, and I could hear within the first few iterations that you had truly unlocked a vitally important component of it that I just haven't been able to do over the years... It's one thing to be able to play this pattern cleanly and with its nuanced accents in the right places (and you do play it smokingly clean) but its quite another to be able to understand and articulate just what the hell is going on in it to be able to do that!! Heard a number of players play it well, but so few get into the actual 'time analysis'- that made your lesson exceptional in that regard... You're a fantastic player and this explanation was next level man. Sorry for the essay length comment, just wanted to express the deserved appreciation for this wisdom :) Gratefully and humbly subbed. Fantastic tasty licks besides the 5's pattern too... Cheers bro!!!

How do you count the 16th note triplets? I know counting 8ths , it’d simply be 1 and 2 and etc.. and 16th notes would be 1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4e&a but how do you count those 16th note triplets? Thanks for any info you can share on that question
@DavidBeebee
@DavidBeebee Ай бұрын
Hah great question! By the time get beyond 16th notes, I take to making staccato kinda noises like dek-eh-deh-dek-eh-deh or did-ul-ee-did-ul-ee sounds, then locking into that. These work at higher speed, but It is kind of hard to teach this, I've tried "1 trip let + trip let, 2 trip let + trip let" etc but I don't find it quite sounds or feels right. Often resort back to my desk-eh-deh's. Re-readind this comment makes me sound insane lol
