These old cases were the best ever made in America. Strong, tough, reliable, should have never stopped building them.Cast steel ,no recycled metal tin junk like today's china's tin.I owned one 20 years, moved dirt, rock, land skaped, best ever owned..

Whoops! I meant in my previous comment: "So Case went to full pressure lubrication on the Onan 16 hp for the 1977 models." !!

my 1969 Case 442 is older than all these machines but it doesn't run currently

Boy I'm really messing up Jason, mixing up splash and pressure lubrication. Sorry about this! What I really meant in my original comment was: "...So this means that the Case 646 (the 16hp Industrial Case Garden tractors with the standard FEL) equipped with the Onan engines from 1972-1980, also changed to the pressure lubricated Onan 16 hp in 1977 as well, I assume, right?..." The reason I am asking all these questions is that so much Garden tractor history gets lost or forgotten. --I am also going to soon search for one of these units---with your data helping me to narrow down what I am looking for!

So the pump on the 4118D was larger than the pump on the 7020 FEL models which I thought would have had the largest pump? It is a dual chamber pump, while all other Ingersoll garden tractors had I assume a single chamber pump from the factory? Interesting information! Please correct if I am not understanding...

Great information! Questions: So Case went to splash lubrication on the Onan 16 hp for the 1977 models. And the 14hp models continued on with the Kohler splash lubricated Kohler K321, right? And Case continued on with the K321 (splash lubrication) to power the 644 (14hp Industrial Case Garden tractors with the standard FEL) through 1979 (their last year)? So this means that the Case 646 (the 16hp Industrial Case Garden tractors with the standard FEL) equipped with the Onan engines from 1972-1980, also changed to the splash lubricated Onan 16 hp in 1977 as well, I assume, right? --that's good information to know! And you mentioned the dual chamber pump (for the hydraulic system, right, or am I misunderstanding from ignorance?) on the Ingersoll 4118D (and 3118 D) models. The hydraulic pump on these diesel models was larger than the those even on the on the 7020 and the 6020 (or are you excluding those becuase they were industrial garden tractors)? Really? That's interesting data from you! Were those gauges on the hood, standard? I could not quite read them. What are they indicate? And that fine three point ---isn't that the sturdier unit offered later on (I can't recall which year) called an HH-34 (versus the earlier J26)? It's really terrific that you know this stuff because I often find men who know next to nothing about their own real garden tractor! Thanks to you I'm really learning something!
