In stead of filler plates on your first cone cave, could you just put a small wire concave instead?

Has much the same effect but putting cover plates in is much easier.

You beat us to the punch! Thanks and while the short answer is 'easier' the real answer we're trying to promote is TEST AND VERIFY - it may work better, but don't theorize, run a few acres and test.

@@CalmerCornHeads We used on our oldy John 1177 H4 model made from EU, wheat concave in soybean harvest instead of corn concave. First year we use corn one in soybean harvest because it was easy for us to change in 20 min adapters or headers when we wanna harvst in same day soybean or corn, instead of changing concave wheat for corn or corn for wheat depending what we harvest. Its hell of job and last at least 4 hours to do that. We have mess in hopper when we harvest soybean, no matter how we adjust combine. next year we left after wheat harvest wheat concave with smaller wires and i was perfect job. Soybean in hopper was clean with no leftovers from soybean pods or stalk residues...now we work with wheat concave: wheat, soybean and with corn one only corn and sunflower....

Can you do a similar video on Gleaner combines, even the older R series? The smaller R40-R55 series too which should be treated differently. Some of this, IMO, doesn't really apply to the Silver transverse rotor combines. Instead of changing vane pitch, a Gleaner in soybeans probably need the reverse rasp bars replaced by forward bars and really in corn they are not needed except for the smaller R40 through R55. And then the importance of the accelerator roll condition.
